Root Rooting ICS

Now that I have updated to ICS, is there a way to root this the new version? I would like to get Titanium back up and running.

Scott

It seems to just sit at "Started Daemon Successfully". I know that I have USB debugging on and that I have the moto drivers as I ran RSDlite to get back to 905 this morning.

Any ideas?

What mode should the USB use?

MTP mode, also don't use a USB 3.0 port, are you on .905 or ICS?

Installed the OTA ICS update, now I'm trying to re-root my Bionic.

Downloaded razrs_edge & installed latest Moto drivers. USB Debugging enabled, using MTP mode.

Having the same problem as the OP: hangs at "daemon started successfully"

Any suggestions?

Yeah... I have double checked everything. The only thing left to try is a different computer. I am running Windows 7.

I don't think this root method works for the official OTA ICS update for Bionic.

This method worked for the leaked ICS, not the official OTA. Stop pulling your hair out.

The user who said it worked fine I think was talking about the leaked ICS.

I am having the same problem as you guys

The leak and ota are one in the same. Try rebooting your phone and computer. Then give it a shot.

I think the issue might not be "leaked" vs. OTA, but whether the phone was previously rooted under Gingerbread.

In this YouTube video, the guy successfully demonstrates the razrs_edge rooting method on a Bionic with OTA 6.7.246. Before applying the exploit, he clearly shows that Superuser has not been previously installed on that phone. This would not be typical of a phone (like mine) that was already rooted under Gingerbread and then upgraded to ICS.

So I suspect that those of us who are experiencing this issue have previously rooted our phones under Gingerbread (and therefore a previous version of Superuser is already installed), and that's somehow causing razrs_edge to fail. I've tried to uninstall/delete Superuser, but of course the catch-22 is that you can't do that unless you're rooted.

Hopefully someone will come up with a workaround for this. I don't relish the thought of having to do a rollback or factory reset just to get a rooted phone with ICS.

That would be weird as I completely wiped using rsdlite back to 905. I can't imagine that there could possibly be anything left over from my previous rooting.

BTW, I tried the latest drivers and it did not work for me.

As you can probably tell from my posts, I'm not exactly an Android expert - so I can't say for sure whether that would've necessarily removed Superuser and other remnants of your previous rooting efforts. You can use Root Explorer to check if the following files still exist on your phone:

/system/app/superuser.apk
/system/bin/su

If not, then so much for my theory.

Let me know.

I am going to post a modified 6.7.246 fxz that you can try and flash. It will wipe your system but not your data.

http://androidforums.com/bionic-all-things-root/480176-how-flash-5-9-905-gb-6-7-246-ics-rsdlite.html

So you're saying that if I flash the modified 6.7.246 fxz, that should give me a root-able ICS? Please clarify.

Also, your post mentions that the modified fxz "... will remove root but you will have to uninstall Super user app and keep your data (just like you would for any other app)". Can you please explain this?

thanks!

for the first question. yes. it will replace all system files with new ones but keep your data.

this comment is for people looking to un-root there phone to bring back to verizon but still keep your data.

when you go to root a phone (any phone) that ha been rooted before it will fail at the pushing su app which is normal because the app is already there. you are not able to root for a different reason, your pc is not seeing your phone.

There are a few things to suggest.

Flash the modified 6.7.246 fxz
delete your moto drivers and then re install or use Moto helper to make sure you have the most up to date.

reboot both the computer and phone.
