Root Rooting Problem: Superwipe

Always give kernels a day or 2 to settle in. If after a few days your still having lag issues we can suggest a different kernel to try. Unfortunately every phones different. So what works greatfir me may not be the best setup for you

First let me say welcome to the world of root. A couple of things to hopefully help get you on the right path.

1. Get Titanium Backup Root and then Purchase the Prokey There is a decent tutorial Here This is one of the main programs you will want for backing up and restoring. Also keep in mind do not restore system data.

2. Make sure you do complete wipes in between Roms. Using a tool like superwipe or caulkins format all will save you a lot of headache from a bad wipe.

3. Always be willing to ask and never feel like your asking a dumb question or feel like your interrupting something. We are here to help. Asking questions now will save your hair later :D

Thank you for the info and link, argedion. I had no idea how helpful you guys were on here. Definitely the nicest, most helpful forum I've ever been on. Thank you to everyone.

hands down the best place on the net. AF rules!!!! been my home for almost 3 years now. i have learned a whole lot from everyone who contributes here. all i ask is that everyone make an effort to pay it forward. glad you found us:flybye:

i have htc evo i did a superwipe now im stuck? my phone is not working im stuck in bootloader can sombody please help me

like rxpert has said superwipe is used in addition to wiping before flashing a rom. it should always be done before and not after a rom. do not solely rely on superwipe to wipe the phone.

just remember as long as you have recovery, you are ok. the time to worry is when you do not have recovery and all efforts to reinstall a custom recovery fails.

so do you have recovery? if so then you can just re-flash your rom.

how you flash a rom

sorry i forgot to say "welcome to AF!!!!!!!"

now as far as flashing roms go, what recovery do you have?

but to put it simply you will:
1. make a nandroid backup
2.wipe dalvik cache, cache, and system
3.flash the superwipe(optional)
4.flash a rom of your choice

i think was a superuser?can i used that ! i got it to work yesterday but it crash today off the mike rom also i did the superwipe too. is the clockworkmod is that a recovery it on my sd card too

Superuser and superwipe are 2 different things....confusing sometimes due to the name, but different nonetheless. Superuser is a kind of script used in conjunction with the Superuser app and will allow you to run root apps and allow your rom to run. Most, if not all, custom roms come with Superuser baked in:)

So you were able to flash the MikG rom? And then it crashed? What exactly happened?

Clockworkmod is a recovery for the Evo, albeit not a very good one on the Evo.
Try reflashing the rom again, but wipe 3 times instead of once and then utilize the superwipe before flashing the rom.

We can always change your recovery later once we get your device to work:)

ok i would recommend that you switch recoveries from cwm to amon ra2.3.
are you s-on or s-off? what is your hboot and baseband(radio)? those can be found in the bootloader.

from there we can point you in the right direction.

im s-on 2.15 what recovery should i used and what
drive should i put it on!

i have it in red as far as what recovery i recommend.

and 2.15 that is your hboot? and you are s-on? do this go into the bootloader(power+vol down and make sure that you have fastboot unchecked, settings/apps/uncheck fastboot)

now just report back the entire screen that you see. and then we can go from there.

s-on my h boot 2.18 and 2.15 is the radio what recover should i used and what drive should i put it on

are you unlocked?

if so then you can go here:
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...-rooting-gingerbread-2-3-5-dummies-guide.html and go to the first method, HTCdev Method and skip to step 2 for instructions on how to switch recoveries. there are a few ways to do it. you can pick and choose how you want to do ti. just make sure that if you are having issues that you let us know which method you are trying to use.

so i copied and pasted this directly from the guide:
step 2 How to get Recovery
here is a little more details on how to get a recovery onto your phone. there are several ways of doing it. you can use the fastboot command to install recovery or you can use the android flasher program and lastly there is the PC36IMG method. either way, it is pretty simple. i will leave the decision up to you.

various methods to install amon ra 2.3 recovery:

ADB command method
1.download amon ra 2.3 from here:
PC36IMG_RA_2.3.zip
2.extract the file and then go into and move recovery.img file into the android folder you created when unlocking your bootloader.
3.on your phone after you have unlocked your phone you should be in the bootloader menu screen, select the fastboot option
4.on your computer press and hold shift while right clicking the android folder.
5.select open command window here option (windows 7)
6.enter command:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
congrats!!!!!! you have just installed amon ra 2.3

android flasher method
Android Flasher, what is this and how do i use this?

well with android flasher, you can flash radios, your splash screen (that is what the htc white screen is called right before sprint's boot animation), and your recovery. you will need to extract the .img file from the .zip file. in this case i will show you how to install a custom recovery amon ra2.3.

so here is what you will need to do:
1.download android flasher from here:
AF Downloader
2.and extract it to someplace on your desktop where you can find it.
3.next you will need to download amon ra 2.3from here:
PC36IMG_RA_2.3.zip
4.extract the img.file and place it some where you will be able to find it.
5.run android flasher
6.go to the recovery slot and select browse and then navigate to the amon ra .img file
7.select it and then select recovery
8.then1 at the very bottom select flash

congrats!!!!!! you now have amon ra 2.3 installed.

PC36IMG method
this will depend on what software version you are on.

if you have software version 4.67.651.1 download this file:PC36IMG.zip

if you have software version 5.07.651.1 download this file:
PC36IMG_AmonRA-v2.3-hausmod_revA.zip

1.download the PC36IMG for your software version above.
2.rename the file so that it is only PC36IMG. make sure that you do not add any extra .zip's to the name as windows hides extensions by default.
3.transfer the file to the root (that means not in any folder) of the sd card.
4.power off (you most likely need to uncheck fastboot. settings/apps/uncheck fastboot.) then press and hold power+vol down.
5.hboot should see the file and select yes to update.
6.select no to reboot because we want to go into recovery and make a nandroid backup.
7.select recovery.
8.select backup and restore and select backup
9. select the first three and wimax. the other partitions do not need to be backed up. always keep one nandroid backup with wimax keys backed up on your computer.
10.now you can reboot.
11.using a file manager of some sort or even through your computer via usb, you should rename or delete the PC36IMG file on your card. otherwise you will be asked to update every time you go to the hboot screen. you do not need that file any more.
so to answer your original question, it will depend on which method you use will dictate where the file goes(either from your pc or on the sd card)

just to
let you know i am half rooted i just want flash a rom

well the definition of root is having root access to the system partition. so if you have recovery and you have su(which gives root access to root apps) then you are fully rooted.

now if you mean you are unlocked with recovery as half rooted, then i guess you will be correct.

now i'm just trying to get you a different recovery. clockwork mod is not a very good recovery and does not wipe well.

if you have a custom recovery and do not want to switch then you can just flash a custom rom like mikg3.11. it has su cooked in and then you will be fully rooted.

the guide i linked you to in the second post has instructions on how to flash a rom properly.

but for me i would switch recoveries first to amon ra2.3, but that is up to you.

again when you have the time please read the guide, in particular the second post. it has tons of info that you should know......including how to make a nandroid backup.

for the adb command method you will need to use the same folder you created to unlock the bootloader.

if you do not have it then here are the files you will need:

you will need to enter the command from this folder.
