Root Rooting the Huawei Ascend for Cricket users!

Ok I chose to cancel that option. Anyway, more trouble! I USB plugged my phone into the laptop, and nothing happened. My laptop did not pop up those 3 options and my phone did not make that sound that I usually hear when I hook it up to my laptop. Now What?

Not that I can see. It just basically says to install the app on both my phone and on my laptop then plug in phone to laptop vis usb, then launch the app from my desktop. When I do that, the app says Android device not found. There is then a help button that shows up, I click it and it takes me to their help webpage. Here is what the webpage says- Essentially it says that I need to install a USB Driver and gives links for Samsung, Motorola and LG Android drivers but not Huawei. And as I said very early in this thread their tech support takes 2 days to get back to me ANy suggestions on my next step? BELOW IS WHAT THEIR HELP PAGE SAYS (and the actual link): file:///C:/Program%20Files/Tether/AndroidDrivers.htm
Android Tethering Help

Please make sure you have the USB Debugging option enabled on your phone before installing any drivers.
You can enable USB Debugging by opening Settings on your phone, selecting Applications, then Development,
make sure the USB Debugging option has a bright checkmark beside it, a faded checkmark generally means it is disabled.

If USB debugging was disabled, you can try reconnecting your phone to your computer, and it may install the drivers for you.
Otherwise continue reading.

Click here if you need additional assistance at any time.

Note: You will need to be connected to the internet to download any of the following drivers.

All problems are now cleared. You just need to find out how to tether using that app. Usually theres a program you need to install in your laptop of the same tether developer so the phone could communicate with the laptop. Did you install such program?

What did I actually do by rooting the phone? Was that supposed to help the program on the laptop connect with the sd card on my phone or something?

I really appreciate your help- especially spending so much time. However, I feel like I am no further than I was hours ago. I still cant get this thing to work> I am so bummed out.

If theres no drivers for Huawei, then the tether app isnt supported by your phone. You may need to ask for a refund. But now that you have root, you can use Barnacle to tether wirelessly. Try it. It is free and best of all, it works

Try Barnacle. It is hassle free. By rooting, you gave your phone permission to root. If you do try Barnacle, before you click Start, go to Settings and check Skip WPE Supplicant. It will work. If you hadnt rooted, it would not have worked

Really? Ok I will try Barnacle right now. Any particular version that I should install? I am definitely getting my money back. Their website where I purchased the app has a list of phones that support the app and the Huawei M860 was on that list. That is the ONLY reason why I opted to buy it. Live and learn... How hard is it to set up the Barnacle wireless tether?

Jeff....rooting your phone is a major accomplishment! The more you explore this forum you will see that everyone, just about, roots their phones.

It gives you the capability to do many things your system wouldn't otherwise allow you to do.

For one, it speeds up your performance, allows you to use programs to remove unwanted stock apps that you never use (commonly referred to as Bloatware) and increase your speed, etc.

Many more options I haven't mentioned.

You just got a crash course in 'Rooting'!

You are luckier than most. Also, you would never be able to tether without being rooted. I'm surprised the program you bought didn't have a pop-up that told you you weren't rooted the first time you opened it.

Anyway...good luck with your Android Tethering program and be happy you are rooted.

Don't forget to click on the 'THANKS' by one of Joser's post for all the time he spent with you!

Good luck!!! :)

Its in the Market. Once installed, open it. And before clicking the big Start button, press menu key to go to settings, then press Skip WPE Supplicant. Exit settings and press Start and thats it. Just look for the network as you would any other network

Joser! Thanks again for your help and your knowledge and patience on this thread and in the Huawei Ascend Forum. You are a great asset to have here on this site!

Cheers!!!
