Root Rooting the Huawei Ascend for Cricket users!

Okay i downloaded Titanium Backup and when it finished downloading i opened it and it said

Sorry, I could not acquire root privileges. This application will *not* work ! Please verify that your ROM is rooted and includes Busybox, and try again.


What should i do ?

I am going to root it again, i opened the app and did not say anything about reroot so i will try again. :(
 
Okay guys it should not take forever when you press root, mine did and i uninstalled it and reinstalled it and it worked. !!!!

The difference is this:

Nearly all 'free' versions of a program are there for you to experiment with and try out. Most all developers really want you to go with the paid for or 'pro' version once you decide you like the program.

And so normally they leave out a few of the features in the 'free' version.

IOW - Titanium Backup (paid for) will do more things for you, but for doing what you want in the rooting process the free version works just fine.

You can restore uninstalled apps if you backed them up first with Titanium. When the new upgrade comes out it will be necessary to do that with some apps. And you will also need to unroot. This is easy. The main thing is not to remove any critical stock app that came with your phone.

These are not so easily restored.

It's not a big deal really. When the upgrade to 2.2 is released there will be plenty of people here to get you through it. :)

Question: is setCPU the only program that will allow cpu overclock on the ascend, or is there a free app that is compatible? I really want to do this, right now, but I can barely afford to pay attention until payday.:(

Also, I understand that rooting the phone voids the warranty, but can they tell it has been rooted in the past if you restore to factory before taking in for service? By the way I registered for this sight based solely on the information provided in this one thread. thanks again.:)

Hi there! CPU Tuner is free. I've never actually used it but it has 5 stars. It looks like it might be a great alternative to SetCPU. Why don't you be our guinea pig. :P

Yes, rooting does void the warranty but most companies don't even check if something goes wrong and also, you can unroot your phone anytime you want. You just need to re-install the stock apps you backed up and then unroot. It's really all that simple.

I have had semi success with Barnacle it works then does not work , anyone use a mac with it ? Seems like im online then offline, then online, then offline ...lol

Hi! I'm pretty sure that jhed has a mac and he was having some probs tethering too. If I can find the thread I'll give you the link to it.

what do you mean, "leave it at the minimum"

do we put both sliders at 600? or only the max slider?
sand what about the minimum slider? How high/low do we set the minimum slider at?

It's okay to set them both to 600 Mhz. I have mine set to 600 max and 245 min.

And I have it set 'ondemand'.
 
Soo.. I've read this whole thread, and just registered to the site. I've always been pretty technologically advanced but I do have a question..
Btw.. thank you guys for all your help I was have the same problem as mister jEFF with the tethering a few weeks back and contacted EVERYONE and no one could give me an answer.. But I Rooted with z4 and got rid of bloatware and overclocked to 600.. But im using Launcher pro and better keyboard 8 (Gingerbread ed.) bc it looks soo much better, but its still running a bit slow esp. when I click to go home, I barely have any apps on my ascend but I was wondering if anyone knew why this was?

Hi! You need to add the shortcuts to your apps by long pressing on the screen where you want them and choosing them one at a time. You can have up to 7 screens.

On your first screen (your desktop) click menu, preferences, home screen settings, set it to 7 or however many you want.

Then click back and select appearance and other features. You have to mess around with it for awhile to get it set the way you want.

Sounds like you have done well rooting and with the apps. If you are going to use LP (launcherpro) I would freeze Canvas (your stock launcher). You have to have the paid version of Titanium Backup to do this.

Be SURE to backup first.

This should help with the lagging!
 
I want to thank everyone here for so much useful info! I registered and will continue to visit your forums solely based on my appreciation for this thread! All praise aside I do have one thing... Am I clear that using the free version of Titanium will NOT allow me to restore in the event the update requires it?
 
Hello all, I'm new to rooting, and bad a couple ?s...1. Is there a newer version of z4root 1.3.0 that i should use. 2. I can't afford to buy any apps at this time, so do i need titu Pro or is there another free app i can use?

Hi and welcome to the AF, and that version of z4root will work for he ascend, and also the free version of titu will work just fine, the benefits of having the paid version is you can freeze apps instead of deleting them, that about it.:cool:

I've been reading the forums for a couple of days now, and even tho all the instructions are pretty clear, there's always some questions i have to ask, just me. So i was wondering are there any new steps i should follow when rooting or installing cm7, the newest version, since all the instructions are dated oct-jan?
