Thanks for that, just updated mine to the same one and all seems good so far...

720p recording is working also... Just gotta see how the signal performs as well as the battery...

Looks like I'm finally up to date again! (Damn Orange branded handsets!!!)
 
Tell me about it, they add a bunch of junk and then don't even push you the minor updates. I am wondering if it is because they where being lazy/annoying and wanted to bundle their 101 poorly made apps again with Froyo only. Too much effort to rebundle for the minor OTA's.

That said my mate said that Orange are hopeless with updates and didn't include a bunch of fixes for his old phone.

Mine was an orange branded handset too, not anymore though got rid of the orange crap during the first week on having it.
 
The funny thing is it didn't really make great odds to space or speed compared to vanilla 2.1, just the fact it was clutter and some of the things where designed to make you spend more money on Orange services. Also they removed Google Talk.

that is something that i have never used, what is it exactly?
 
Its just Googles version of MSN or Yahoo chat. My friends use it now instead of MSN it also works pretty well in a browser and usually pops up within Gmail if you are logged in via PC.

I finally grew a pair a rooted the other day using the unrEVOked method. Not as bad as I first thought it'd be, although that first boot after flashing is a killer! Think I lost about half a stone in weight sweating whilst I waited for that first boot!

Running Froyo - LeeDroid Mod 1.8 now (with sense) and I have to say it's smooth, fast and very stable!

If you use the goldcard method on an orange phone it works till you upgrade the radio, then it simlocks against all simcards including orange ones.

If you root using the one click method you don't get those problems & you don't need a goldcard as DesireableHTC can tell you.
As i am rooted myself i can tell you that way is best as you got access to loads of custom roms, all of which are updated regularly.
Be aware that you do any of this at your own risk though.
The one click method is easiest.
 
Hi all, i'm just wondering at what stage you need to run Clockwork ROM Manager and Titanium Backup? Is it immediately after the phone is rooted. Thanks for any info

Once you are rooted you run a nandroid backup from the clockwork recovery menu.
Then you pick your custom rom & copy it to your sd card.
Then you install your new rom & install rom manager to partition your sd card,
512mb ext & 0mb swap.
Then you install titanium backup & any other apps you want.
You run titanium back up before you install any future roms & back up the existing rom in rom manager.
 
Have rooted, flashed and partitioned my orange branded HTC (unlocked) exactley as detailed in post 1. So now have plenty of space for apps and can install to SD card.

All seemed OK but some apps are now failing to install, for example google sky map and radardroid, but other install and update fine. Have tried uninstalling fully and re-installing apps in question but still no joy.

Any ideas as to why this is happening and how to fix it would be graet.

Not sure if this has any relevance to your problem, but I have heard that some apps require the widget to still be installed on the phone even when the app itself is on the SD card.
 
Sorry about the previous post, I want to ask if I dont want APP2SD I dont have to partition the phone, I just do the normal way of adding the ROM?
 
@PannaKing (good name, lol) yup, if you do not want the older (better) a2sd (also known as a2sd+) do not partition sdcard
 
Good evening.

This all seemed to be going so well right up to the point that it failed :-(

With unrevoked3 running it runs through everything correctly up to the point where it waits for the phone to reboot. The unrevoked software then times out with a "failed to flash recovery image".

The phone then reboots seconds later. Its as if the sofwtare needs the timer slightly extended, or I am doing something wrong.

Any suggestions, can I provide more information ?

nharber: what bootloader/software version etc are you running? you can check the bootloader by starting phone with the vol.down button held (once the screen comes on it tells you in the 1st couple of lines). If it is above 0.80 then this method does not work, as yet.
 
I think I am running bootloader 0.92 and I complted the OTA upgrade to 2.2, plus I am using a branded Orange phone.

In reading these forums it seems I have the perfect storm for this not to work.

However, I will say that following this method worked completely fine up to the phone reboot. I have nothing meaningful to add techically to this problem, but it does simply appear to be an issue with the time taken for the phone to reboot, being longer than the time that unrevoked software waits to see the reboot complete.

I can check the precise software numbers later, but is there a way to downgrade the bootloader ?

:confused: Sorry for posting such a noobish question, but I didn't think a new thread was necessary. I live in Australia, and I have just got a Desire on a plan with Telstra -so I assume it is locked (also has Telstra bloatware)- and obviously want to root it (.75 boot loader). But before or while I am rooting, is there a way to clone my current Telstra ROM, incase s*** hits the fan?

2nd, if anyone can link me to a good rooted ROM- preferably Modaco, or another highly recommended one, with 2.2 Froyo, fast, stable, with sense, you will be my hero :p

Also, is my phone being locked on a plan going to complicate things?

Misc. questions:
Is there any way to get free apps once rooted? Jailbreak style.
Is unbricking a phone possible?
Is this easier done on Linux or Windows 7?
Recommended backup methods or apps? preferably free.
How hard is going backwards - unrooting- with my saved Telstra Rom or with a random one ( are they likely to not fix a phone with a non standard ROM?)
Any advice?

I can confirm from Orange OTA 2.2 with latest Radio downgraded to 2.1 and 4.06 radio then used this process to install new custom ROMS.

AWESOME.
