Root rooting tool, a 'one click' program!

Completed rooting and installing of a ROM, slight hiccup that had me worried was stuck on HTC white screen but did wipe/factory reset reinstalled ROM and was good to go.

Great guide and thanks for all the follow up posts as made sense when I was working through

I've successfully rooted and installed radio thanks to this guide, so thanks!

But i'm struggling with the A2SD bit. I get into rom manager, follow steps, go to partition SD and the phone reboots then there's just the android dude with an exclamation next to him. I then have to click power so it goes back to recovery mode. When i reboot and go into rom manager it says-

'recovery failure'
recovery mode is broken
ROM manager doesn't reboot
Other.

Can anyone enlighten me?

I'm using the sense 3.2 by neophyte.

thanks,

i'm trying, I'M TRYING, but when it comes to computers/phones, i can struggle with the basics. I've only had a laptop for just over a year, so i'm still learning (so please don't mock me, laugh and point at me, calling me names etc), u gotta start somewhere......

Anyway, i've had enough of the Orange "apps" preloaded on my phone, plus waiting for Orange to release 2.2 with more preloaded rubbish, i just can't bare the thought.
So, i've decided (and tryed) about 4 times to root my phone using the guide at the start of this thread. Everything goes fine, i get to back up Nandroid (which i do), it's only when i get to [Select 'install zip from sdcard'> 'choose zip from sdcard'> [radionumber].zip> yes/install (should take a few seconds)
Select 'install zip from sdcard'> 'choose zip from sdcard'>[rom].zip>yes/install (should take a couple of minutes)], the problem begins. My phone's screen display shows ......

ClockworkMod Recovery v2.5.0.1
SD Card space free 7171MB
Backing up boot...
Backing up recovery...
Backing up system...
Backing up data...
No /sdcard/.android_secure found. Skipping backup of applications on external storage.
Backing up cache...
No sd-ext found. Skipping backup of sd-ext.
Generating md5 sum...

Back up complete!

i select `install zip from sd card` and `choose zip from sd card` and all i get is a list of the android system (found.000/,LOST.DIR/,TunnyBrowser/,clockworkworkmod/,data/ etc etc).

WHAT AM I DOING WRONG ???

I presume that when i get to number 1 at the start
"Backup everything on your phone (contacts to gmail account, sms backup, copy entire sdcard to pc, astro app backup whatever you need to do, there are many guides to help with this and apps in the market)", thats where i'm going wrong !!!
The way i've backed up my phone/ (and remember I'M STILL LEARNING !!!) is by connecting the Desire by usb to my laptop, SETTINGS/ DEFAULT CONNECTION TYPE/ DISK DRIVE, going to the C drive on my computer, double clicking "Removeable disk (I:), pressing the "Organise" button, selecting all, copy, open new folder on the main screen and paste, then pulling over 32..42.00.32U_5.09.00.08 and sensefroyo_v1.0c.

SOMEONE HELP ME PLEASE, I WANNA PLAY WITH THE BIG BOYS !!!!

P.S. if i get any replys today, chances are i ain't going to have time to do it. Will def do it tomorrow tho. MANY THANKS IN ADVANCE FOR ANY REPLYS, YOUR DEF GO TO HEAVEN.........

Did you keep the rom & radio as a zip file, if you did then you have done it correctly.
Try using a different rom as the one you have may be corrupted.

thank you for the quick reply anoniemouse.

yes, i've still got the rom and radio as a zip file. Something i forgot to say in my last post was when copying to a new folder, it never complete's the copy. It gets stuck on 5 secs remaining saying ......

copying 511 items (699 MB)
From: removeable disk (I:) (I:\)
To new folder (C:\Users\.....
Time remaing : about 5 secs
Items remaining: 31 (13.1 MB)
Speed 10.7MB

Do you think that is where the problem might be ?

also, regarding the new rom and radio, is it worth me just upgrading to the newest (and most stable 1). I'm on Orange and don't want to get sim locked eventually by keeping chopping and changing

Thank you once again

and I should have asked, any you can recommend which don't sim lock the desire ? So many to choose from, I don't know where to start....

DesireableHTC has tried most of them with no problems, he is also on orange & still locked.
so you can take your pick.
I am on orange unlocked & rooted & i have tried a few too, i am currently using next sense 3.2

looking at the whole thread, DesireableHTC certainly took off (and fair play to him). If I know half of what he now knows, i'll be happy.

any thoughts on my previous Q regarding whether the copying to pc might be the problem ?

I'm also on orange. Not unlocked and so far tried neophyte 1.4 with recommended radio and not bricked or sim locked yet.

I say yet as I haven't tried another Rom apart from neo yet. But will do soon...

Use the rom manager, it makes it all a bit easier & its a free download from the market.

Try re wiping & factory reset from the root menu a couple of times then try to install, if this fails get a rom with radio built in then install & use the rom manager to install your favored rom

If i do the wipe would that potentially "Brick" the phone?

Thanks really appreciate your help.

yes i can confirm that I'm still locked to orange. am i right in thinking that its the radio that locks the sim? i have only ever used two radios both were the latest one at the time, on the latest now. But that's just me, you have to decide for yourself, if your prepared to pay

I've tryed another Rom and radio (the 1 DesireableHTC mentions on page 3 of this thread), and i'm still having the same problem. The screen (black screen with green writing) still displays.......

Select 'install zip from sdcard'> 'choose zip from sdcard'>[rom].zip>yes/install (should take a couple of minutes)

and it doesn't show anywhere on the menu (or sub menu's) the zip's for the radio and ROM. I've got to be doing something wrong somewhere along the line. If you do know what i'm doing wrong, please explain in plain computer talk because i'm a bit of a div, see !!!! Any guidance would be much appreicated. THANKING YOU ONCE AGAIN IN ADVANCE

Are you copying just the zip files straight to the card, not in folders or into folders?

After backing up onto a new folder I create on my laptop, I then add the zipped files to the same folder onto the main menu, before running Revolked and connecting the usb to the phone. Would be handy if there was a video about I could watch for this. Apologies BTW for giving u headache

No need for apologies m8 we all start learning about these things one way or another, besides that is the idea of the forum to try & help others.
Just copy the rom & radio zip files to to the sd card, not into any folder on the sd card & you should pick them up in the root menu.

Anyone managed to do this with bootloader 0.83?

One person has managed to downgrade their hboot,

http://androidforums.com/all-things-root-desire/142778-down-grade-hboot-0-92-0-80-a.html

but others have had less success

http://androidforums.com/all-things...st-black-screen-vibrate-when-i-turn-help.html

So i would advise caution on trying for the moment.

because for the life of me,i can't see sd card anywhere. 1 of my folders is called backups, inside that is apps and that contains all my desire apps i've downloaded from the market place so i know the sd card is there somewhere.........

Your sd card is in the phone or a card reader depending on what way you use to connect it to your pc to read it.
If you are using your phone, make sure you set it to disk drive mode when you connect to the pc.

Corrr, that was a quick reply. I've just put me laptop away when my desire beeped to say I had an email. I've been using my phone and enabling disc drive. As I've just put it away, i'll try using the card reader on it tomorrow. At this rate, I'm probably gonna have to give up (through the shame........). To be honest, the way its all written out, it is pretty straight forward, but when u ave a brain (like me) made of jelly........

You just need a bit of confidence in yourself, a card reader is the ideal way to copy things over as you don't have to rely on the phone
