Root rooting tool, a 'one click' program!

I've successfully rooted and installed radio thanks to this guide, so thanks!

But i'm struggling with the A2SD bit. I get into rom manager, follow steps, go to partition SD and the phone reboots then there's just the android dude with an exclamation next to him. I then have to click power so it goes back to recovery mode. When i reboot and go into rom manager it says-

'recovery failure'
recovery mode is broken
ROM manager doesn't reboot
Other.

Can anyone enlighten me?

I'm using the sense 3.2 by neophyte.

thanks,

Ive got same problem still cant figure out whats the prob and how to get app2sd. I wonder is that only partition that i have to change on sd or smth else. Ive red god knows how many posts didnt find anything useful.

Wow, considering I was so apprehensive this was an easy method compared to Goldcard with no issues. The only scary things where waiting for the phone to update after radio and rom flash. I didn't even need to wipe. I got a bit worried when it said SIM has changed but selected Orange and I can make calls fine. I am now using the Froyo ROM that was suggested by DesirableHTC on the previous page.

Basically I didn't even have to wipe so everything is still as it was which is even better.

yeah me too!! i have noticed that it only does that on one of the OTA official roms, the froyo roms from before the OTA update came out dont do that.

its well easy that Unrevok3d method isn't it!

Which bootloader did you both start out with?

I think it was 0.75, certainly it was not higher than that.

Thanks to DesirableHTC & anoniemouse. And yeah this is a very easy way of getting root access. Just follow the instructions which are not hard.

One thing I noticed is that the hboot driver.htm file for unrevoked is kind of wrong or it might be cause of it being for EVO but when I looked at the loader (power and vol down) there where four options something like Fast Reboot, recover, wipe system ,sim lock

In the instructions it says: "On EVO 4G, you will have to select HBOOT USB at that menu by pressing volume down four times, then power. Wait until the screen flashes through an “SD Checking” message before pressing buttons; otherwise, the phone will ignore keypresses."

As it was I didn't have to do anything at this point, just plugged in the USB and it switched to say USB HBoot at the top. If I was to scroll own four time I think it would have selected the reboot option that was already selected anyway. So maybe a misprint or its different on Evo?

My hboot was 0.75, its now 0.80.
That is the highest any custom rom uses to avoid problems with root.
People with higher hboot are having a lot of failures trying to root & or debrand, this should only be carried out on the higher hboot if you are very proficient at hacking.
The advice is wait until a crack is found.

JOY OF JOY'S...... i got there eventually in the early hours of this morning, by using the card reader. Little bit scary after starting it up with android "splash" screen staying on, but by following the rest of the guide, it eventually kicked in. So i've currently got [ROM-FroYo] Official Froyo HTC Sense ROM (16/07 v1.0c | OpenDesire Team) - xda-developers. Lovely feeling to finally have all the pre-installed Orange gunk off my Desire. I'm going to have a little look about and see what else tickles me fancy.

a couple of things i would like to know at the moment are..... how to re-install my apps back onto the phone. They show up on my card in back up, but i just can't seem to find a way re-install

also, after me making a few botched up attempt's to root, i noticed on my sd card that clockworkmod was beginning to fill up (well it had 4 back ups). Anyway, i deleted the 3 oldest 1's because they had the old Roms and radio's on as it appeared they was using the memory up on the sd card. Was that the right thing to do ?

MANY THANKS BTW TO ANONIEMOUSE AND EVERYONE ELSE WHO HAS CONTRIBUTED TO THIS THREAD.

I think it should be safe to delete the backups from clockwork. I would have backed them up to PC first personally. From what files it spits out and what you find in a ROM zip is pretty similar it seems for a start there is a boot.img in the ROM zip I opened and clockwork backs up the current boot.img from your phone. I am guessing the other *.img files may even be packed versions of what's in the folders on a ROM.

also another quick Q, when trying another Rom and radio, do i insert sd card into the card reader again, delete the old Rom and radio and then add the new Rom and radio i'd like to try ?

I've saved the 2 different Rom's and radio's i've already downloaded onto my laptop as well as the original back up from my Desire. So much to take in...... gonna take me years to learn

. Cheers for the answer btw FelixofMars

Yeah, it is the same process. The ROM zip is redundant after its been flashed to the machine. Its the same process as any hardware flash. I feel that its a bit more complicated with different radios and maybe getting locked out of the providers SIM but it seems pretty easy to manage with the Unrevoked method.

As with all firmware there is always a chance of bricking but rare.

My reflash evo stopped in Pushing Recovery Image. And nothing happens, phone, stills turned lights on and nothing happens, please, anyone can help me ?

Hey guy one thing, I was interested to know how to boot back to clockwork mod. Do I need to run Revoked again? Holding down on Vol and power only brings up the normal 0.75 bootloader.

Finally got round to trying out another Rom and decided on the NeoPhyte ROM 1.6v and as far as i can tell at the moment, it's as good as gold. Remember, i am on a branded Orange Desire so i proberly won't be trying too many Rom's out just incase my Desire gets sim locked. Problem is, there's so many to choose from, you just don't know where to start

Had a mushy brain again earlier but have finally (worked out) and done the apps2sd on my Desire. Now, with my 8gb sd card, my total space on it is 6.91gb, available space is 6.43gb and my internal phone storage is 132mb

regarding my post a couple of errrrrrrrrrrr posts ago.........about how to retrieve my original apps i'd saved to astro, i decided to re-downloaded astro manager from the market place and by pressing sdcard/backups/apps, there they were.

I'M WELL CHUFFED AT THE MOMENT........

I will say monkeybuttpants, that provided you stick to the rooting guide as described (no trying to cut corners), u should be fine. I know very little about computers/phones. All these fancy terms like Rom, bootloaders, zip etc etc scare the life outta me. I know it's gonna be a pain in the 'arris, but what i did, was to read the guide thoroughly more then a few times, go through the whole thread a couple of times and eventually, bits and bobs start to kick into place when your actually doing it. Any problems i had, i think were mentioned at least once in the whole thread. Maybe mention what network you are on in your next post, or look on this thread to see if there is anyone on your network and if they had any problems

GOOD LUCK

Yeah it really easy, if you can use a PC you can do this. Only tricky things for a newbie I could imagine is the scary text that happens on the bootloader (The windows generation are not used to this) and that you have to install a driver and an unsigned one at that.

Finally got round to sorting my phone out... Got an Orange Desire but have been running the Generic ROM since I got it...

Decided I wanted to go for Froyo so ended up using Unrevoked to install the Generic rooted 2.2 ROM that Paul over at Modaco has posted up...

All worked fine, only issue (that I'm aware of!) is the fact I dont have 720p video recording, but I think that is due to the fact that I am still running the old Radio (32.30.00.28U_4.05.00.11) so all good as I still cant be arsed to muck about with unlock codes and that...

Also managed to flash the Circle Battery mod (looks great) so I no longer need 'Battery Indicator'...

Have to say that Unrevoked seems to me to be the best method to use, initially tried to use Pauls R6 but that failed when I tried to flash the new ROM...

Fair enough with the radio, it works fine though. I am on Orange not had to unlock. May have to try circle battery, is there a link?

Can you let me know what Radio version you're on please?

I've realised that the Video Camera doesnt work it just makes the phone reboot, doesnt really bother me as I dont use it but would upgrade the radio if it doesnt lock the phone!
