Root Rooting

I registered just so I could post this word of warning. I tried to download these files too and could not. Just kinda gets stuck. Using ie9 in win7 usb tethering through my optimus v. Then prompt to save will eventually pop up. Minutes later though.

I went to Anubis web site and submitted:

http
:
//
dl
.
boxcloud
.
com

And this is what I got:

Analysis Report for the above mentioned:

Summary:
- Changes security settings of Internet Explorer:
This system alteration could seriously affect safety surfing the World
Wide Web.

- Performs File Modification and Destruction:
The executable modifies and destructs files which are not temporary.

- Performs Registry Activities:
The executable creates and/or modifies registry entries.

That's the summary. If you want to see the full report go to:

http
:
//
anubis.iseclab.org/?action
=result&task_id
=132a9549d9150b094a917f9ec5fd62177&format
=txt

I checked and it didnt change any of my ie9 settings and I ran Security Essentials and got nothing. I ran Malware Bytes Anti Malware and found Trojan.Ransom in my Rise of Nations: Thrones and Patriots directory. Though I can't verify when it arived on my computer due to the lengthy time since I ran more than a quick scan. I searched web and Trojan.Ransom can act like the behavior mentioned in the above summary.

I'm not going to dog on you but if you really downloaded the files, you would not notice that it's simply an exe that if extracted with seven zip houses multiple bat scripts. Some files needed for the exploit are viewed as viruses. That doesn't mean it is.

Can not download exploit.

Please use the MIRRORS.. no offense to anyone but I am tired of complaints in my inbox when there are MIRRORS away from box.com. Also on another thread I have for the Samsung Galaxy some people on IE where posting the same problem. Try a different browser. I've used Chrome and Firefox to download my files and it always works for me

I've never had a problem with Google Chrome downloading things that could not be downloaded on IE.
On my XP if I try to install something that is misread as a possible virus I just turn off my Antivirus and Malware just for the install, then turn it back on right after.

Thank you! Worked like a charm. I wanted to root it mostly because I wanted to use Link2SD, I figure what's the point of having a 2 gig SD card if you can't use it?
A 2GB uSD card will not be big enough to use Link2SD. You need to make a partition that's 1.5GB-2GB. I would suggest going to Walmart or RadioShack or Target and get a Sandisk 16GB class 4. This has the best read speed of any uSD card that has been tested so far (as far as I'm aware) at just under 40MB/s.
They can be found at Walmart for $18.80?
I have 7-8GB's of stuff on mine so far and it only takes it a minute/minute and a half to fully boot up with everything being usable.

Class does not denote read speed or quality. Class only denotes write speed, which isn't much concern for an Android phone.

I am soo grateful to have finally found this, your OneClick works flawless.
AWESOME !!
I can finally restore my stuff, IF I had known what Z9 does, I would have NEVER installed it.
I am not surprised they pulled it BUT what makes me furious, is that they never even bothered to post in FAQ...I for one will NEVER go with VM again after this.

I downloaded the windows version but how do I proceed? I am new to this and need a step by step on how to run the software! :oHalp?

Run the root.bat or RUNME.bat, whichever one is in there (I have exploits on multile phones, so this either one should work) Theirs in instructions!

Yes. It is the simplest, fastest way to root and install a custom recovery that will work for all CM-7, CM-9, and CM-10 ROM's.

If no PC, then the Gingerbreak.apk is the next best root exploit.

Total newb here. I've been looking for a way to root my Optimus V for a while and found my way here. Read all posts, followed all instructions, ran RUNME and...

OK, so the file copy seemed to go well. Then it began Part 1 of running the exploit immediately followed by:

error: closed
error: closed
error: closed
error: closed

At this point my phone had turned off but wasn't restarting. Nothing was happening and the warning about bricking one's phone, in large unfriendly letters, made me too scared to unplug it. After 15 minutes I said the heck with it and unplugged it anyway. "Wait for your phone to completely restart..." popped up finally but obviously something had gone wrong. I had to remove my battery to get the phone to restart but restart it did. Not bricked but not rooted, either.

So where did I go wrong?

BTW - I really appreciate that any of this is available here, much thanks!

I just used this Guide a couple of months back to root my unbricked V after applying the ZV9 update. It worked flawlessly. Could you give a step by step of what you did: from the time you downloaded the exploit to now.

I had installed the necessary USB drivers when I tried Super One Clock. I downloaded the exploit. I backed up my apps, copied everything on my SD card to my PC. Connected phone, made sure debugging was on, made sure the screen stayed on while connected. Ran the exploit. Choose the option to backup (just in case). Then I ran the auto root. Everything looked good until it started running part 1 and then I got the "error: closed". Waited, waited, waited, nothing, disconnected, gave up. I haven't modified the phone in any way since and I haven't tried again, either.

Did you say you tried to use SuperOneClick first? This could be your problem. That's how I ended up bricking my first V.

Before you continue you need to follow the AAA code guide, and use the Utility to get your ESN and MIN as well.

Let me find the Guide for getting your MSL code so I can post it. You will need it first.

EDIT: Here is the Guide/Video link to get your MSL code: http://androidforums.com/optimus-v-...l-easy-way-get-msl-optimus-v.html#post4824455

Once you get your AAA, ESN, and MIN codes written down then we can proceed with straightening out your phone.
NOTE: It won't hurt to write down the Cave codes as well.

You can use Mini Tool Partitioning Wizard, QtADB (which has lots of other functions you have to see), and the custom recovery you should now be using (it will only format the partition to ext.3 which will only work with ICS).

Getting tired of retyping this... androidforums keeps telling me I'm not logged in!

Just got an OV as a replacement from VM for my Samsung intercept which got left on top of the car this past Saturday. I'd only been rooting around in it for about a month, and it was my first rooted android... and I was able to use a 1 click app to root that one... here I'm feeling a little lost. I hadn't even heard of ADB until reading these posts. Do I need to have it already installed before running the runme.sh file that extracted from the tar file?

My OV is loaded with
android 2.2.2 and is
zv5 build

the following is the terminal output when I run the runme.sh file, and it exits at this point without seeming to have done anything to the phone.

Just got an OV...

With zv5, you can use gingerbreak.apk
Heres a link to the gingerbreak thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044765
Scroll down the page to the end of the first post, then click one of the download links.
Theres two ways you could do this:
  • go to that link on your phone and download it
  • or use your computer and then move the file to your sdcard.
After its on your sdcard use a file manager like fx file manager and find the app and click on it and it will ask if you want to install it, after its installed open it and click root. If it takes longer than 10 mins pull the battery and try again.

Hope this helps - Phatninja55

I gave up on trying to figure out ADB ... way over my head. Tried the Gingerbreak today at lunch, and worked great... after I got the right version. :)

I just tried the Linux version for my zv9 Optimus and i keep getting this error:

Moving Files... Please wait...

error: insufficient permissions for device

Any idea why?
