Root Running like complete trash

I have to agree with the suggestions to uninstall LPP and try ADW or Go Launcher or Zeam. I personally swear by LPP and my phone runs way faster with it than it does with ADW - but my wife's Droid 2 was having lots of problems with Liberty and LPP. Took me forever to figure out why it was freezing so bad. Loaded ADW EX on her phone and it runs lightning fast, like mine does with LPP. Just goes to show every phone really is different.

so pretty much:
1. Root
2. Bootstrap
3. Create Backup
4. remove task killers and LPP
5. install GO launcher or ADW Launcher
6A. download (a) titanium backup (b) root explorer
(A) freeze unwanted apps [http://androidforums.com/droid-x-al...t-apps-apks-removable-non-removable-root.html
(B) rename to .bak [same list]
6B. Install a custom rom via Clockwork Recovery(after wipe)
7. hit the thanks button for all those that helped

to answer your question about bricking, since we don't have access to the kernal, a full 100% brick is almost impossible. We have the mighty SBF

Rooted last night with Apex. A huge thanks to Aggie, we spoke through PM's for a bit. so far it has been amazing. The only bug I ran into was within the first 5 seconds of having it I replaced the app drawer icon with the camera and I can't get it back, resetting ADW doesn't fix it. For now I have swype up for open app drawer but if anyone has a solution to fix this I'll kiss you.

From Fab's Wiki:

I've accidentally replaced my app drawer button with a shortcut! How do I get it back?!

This is a common problem since the ADW.Launcher included in Apex integrates the trash can at the top of the screen, not at the bottom where it usually is. To get your app drawer icon back, we simply need to create a custom shortcut for the app tray, then drag it down to the hotseat where it used to be. To make the shortcut, get to your homescreen and:

  • Hit Menu, then Add
  • Choose Custom Shortcut
  • Pick activity, choose Launcher Actions
  • Select 'Open/close App Drawer'
  • Drag the new shortcut down to the hotseat
And in the future, remember that the trash is now at the top ;-)

if you have freeze/lag problems that are persistent even after a reset, it could be that you have a bad sdcard. I have noticed in other threads that this turns out to cause a lot of the problems you are mentioning. typically its a corrupt file on the sdcard. to check, just pull the battery, pull the sdcard, then reboot your phone and see if your problems persist.

goodluck, sounds like it may have just been your LPP tho. I'm on GO launcher and the Liberty ROM OC'ed to 1.2 @ lv and my phone flys. I have one buggy lag with GO launcher tho but it doesn't bother me. if i'm not on the home screen and press home, i get a screen with no icons, i press again to get the switcher screen and select my home screen and everything is fine. i could probably fix this but it really doesn't cause me any issues.

I disagree. I believe it IS an acceptable answer, but I definitely agree that it is not an acceptable situation phone. I agree with Metfanant. Perhaps you should call vzw and get a new phone. However, like someone said, get rid of your task killers. They are no good and vzw recommends them. My phone was the most jerky (before i rooted) when I considered task killers to be a viable solution. GL.

while i understand all phones are different...some perform better than others etc...and i agree that rooting, and running a custom rom is the best thing you can do with these phones...

my point is really that there is no acceptable reason for the phone to run like trash out of the box...and if it is there is something wrong...with these phones rooting and installing a rom should be making a good thing better...

i worry that if something was terribly wrong on the hardware front making the phone run like that, while a custom rom might help it still might not be giving the right level of performance...

now its just as likely that the software on his X was buggy, maybe a bad install, bad update and that a custom rom will fix all problems...

its just my opinion that if someone comes to me and says my phone is stuttering, lagging etc...the answer should not be just freeze or remove bloatware...because even with the bloatware it shouldn't be performing like that...

its like a car..if you're car is not running right and you take it to the mechanic...he is not likely to say...well...lets remove the power windows and air conditioning because thats bloatware and slap a supercharger on it to make up for the fact that its down on power...rather he is going to fix the problem and make it run as intended first..
