Root Running like complete trash

Even after a factory reset my X is running like a 2 legged dog. Freezes at unlock, freeze at password pattern, freezes opening messages, etc along with the random reboots. I'm running LPP, Beautiful Widgets and Minimal Text and it's been nothing but garbage even after the reset. Each day pushes me more and more back towards getting an iPhone. Any suggestions to have it not run like total crap? I have a feeling it's going to freeze when I have an emergency and I'm going to get completely screwed because I have to pull my battery and wait for it to reset.

root it, take off the bloatware (via root explorer, titanium backup or custom rom) and be happy. My X is the fastest phone I've ever seen. I'm running Incredibly Re-Engineered with ADW launcher and I have no issues

I'm rooted, overclocked/undervolted and it is working great - definitely the best phone I've ever had. I'm still on the stock Blur and have no issues, but lots of people have replaced the stock rom with something else and are very happy with the result. Also - have you thought of replacing yours with another X? You may have one that is defective. Regardless of which way you go, best of luck!

I feel your pain.

I'm rooted, running Launcher Pro, have frozen the bloatware and still have major performance issues. I recently unrooted, did a full hard reset, rerooted, refroze apps, installed far fewer apps, and it's still running poorly.

It constantly freezes on Google Search, the unlock freezes are plentiful, and I can't tell you how many force closes I get every day. I have huge signal fluctuations when sitting in one place (like from full 3G to low 1X) and have dropped more calls in 3 months than I did in 3 years of iPhone use. The audio quality on calls is pretty bad at times as well.

I am VERY disappointed in this phone and in Android in general. Even on light use days, I struggle to get through the day on a charge.

On the plus side, the photos and videos, especially the sound, are better than my iPhone 3GS, but are not as good as my wife's iPhone 4, except for the audio quality of video recordings.

I really wanted to like Android better than iOS, but so far I just can't see it. I tried the Droid Incredible before I got the Droid X and it was not much better. Hopefully, things will improve with Android 2.3, but I'm not holding my breath.

I may be looking at an iPhone at my 1 year point in October. I can't rely on a phone that I have to do a battery pull just to make a call on.

Is there still any chance of bricking with roots? This is the third one I've had too. If I root it and am still unhappy can I revert it to stock so I can sell it? Not to mention the times where I grab it and its hot as all get out and my battery has drained at least 40%. I'll look at the rooting but which is the best route to go? It seems like you're all saying different things.

Of course. Nothing helps though. Today has be especially awful. From what I just gathered I can go back to original 2.3.340 if I'm not happy/want to sell. I'll give it a try.

The task manager may be causing the problems. You shouldn't use an app like advance task manager to handle your phone's memory. There have been many discussions on the nature of task managers. On 2.2 it doesn't even work right cause the api was removed that allowed it to work "properly". It still amazes me that ATK is still one of the most downloaded apps.

What I would do in your situation:
1. get rid of task manager.
2. root with z4 (quick and painless)
3. Dowload DroidXbootstrap.
4. Flash the ROM of your choice. I would recommend ApeX to you since it has very few bugs.

Sounds good. I'm getting Z4 now. Bootstrap creates a backup correct and it's not free, can this be skipped? I'll be going with apex as well.

My phone always runs like crap, when I have LPP installed. Even rooted. I switched to ADW and it doesn't do that. Try removing LPP.

Since this convo has migrated into a root discussion, I'm moving it to the root section.

OP: KEEP ASKING ?'s !! Anyone of us will be glad to help you through the process. My phone is rooted, rom'd and themed and is running like a champ overclocked. That's the way to go. Have it your way!!

personally...that is not an acceptable answer...

his phone should not run like that out of the box...

I disagree. I believe it IS an acceptable answer, but I definitely agree that it is not an acceptable situation phone. I agree with Metfanant. Perhaps you should call vzw and get a new phone. However, like someone said, get rid of your task killers. They are no good and vzw recommends them. My phone was the most jerky (before i rooted) when I considered task killers to be a viable solution. GL.

LPP is gone and I'm about to root. Thanks for the help so far. What can I do for something like LPP once I'm rooted? I'm still slightly confused about themes and over clocking. I'm assuming themes are relative to LPP but instead of having single things editable, it's the entire skin? What's my best route for over clocking?

Well, I just recently rooted my X and installed Apex 1.3.1 and using LPP and it was running great! I then switched to DarkSlide 4.2 and installed LPP and runs great as well. I personally have not had any issues running LPP since I have rooted.

If you are having this much problems I would say you have a bad phone, out of the box. But if this is your third one, then I would agree with the others, you have to have something on your phone that is causing this issue. I think you have better odds buying the winning lottery ticket than getting three bad X's.

Well the first was a cracked screen, all my fault. The second had a defective speaker because it was a refurb from the insurance. What I'm on now is a brand new one that insurance sent me. I have a strong feeling it was LPP that was causing all this because before, about two weeks ago before I started using it, it was decent, not great, but decent.

Check out Go Launcher for something comparative to LPP. It doesn't have any widgets that come with it but an awesome home replacement.

LPP lagged badly when I used it. ADW was better, but still a few lag issues. I now use ZEAM and it is very snappy. Heavy launchers have a way of bogging things down IMHO.

But it also sounds like maybe something just isn't right with your X. Consider getting another one via insurance.
