Root S off is here!

We staffers in this section were so elated about the new S-off method, we forgot to stick the Sunshine thread. :o

It should work without a hitch Tre, as long as your're stock rooted. Thats stock rom and stock kernel, custom recovery, SuperSU, no mods.

It's been reported to work on some custom roms, but they're not necessarily supported by the devs. ;)

Let us know how it goes!! :)

Closer to stock is better.... customer recovery after sunshine.

I thought I was in the sunshine thread when I posted that:p

I understand.

It also applies to sunshine because they support HTCdev unlocked and rooted devices - and TWRP works.

If in that camp, restore your stock nandroid, the one made by following our instructions right after unlocking and installing TWRP, flash SuperSU, then do sunshine.

Some stockish roms also work, others don't.

I just upgraded from the Bionic about ten days ago. The M8 is my first HTC device so I've been quietly hanging out here as well as a few other sites learning some new root terms and exactly what they do.

If I root and S-off and keep the stock ROM will I still be able to get stock ROM and Sense updates via OTA?

I'm basically just interested in root to run a few apps that require it. Do I even need S-off if I'm not going to install a custom ROM for now?

Long time no see!

Yeah - s-off is not required (unless you're on Verizon) but tends to make life a lot easier.

Basically, once rooted, never take an OTA.

When OTAs happen, they typically appear fairly quickly as installable zip packages for rooters anyway.
