Ramjet,
I think I may have made a mistake. I decided to go and look at the rules as they are written on the Unlimited website. A visual reminder is what I needed...
I think perhaps those rules were in place when I did S-OFF. I must not have fully understood the implications of RUU at the time, so I may have glossed over that part. When they say this:
Verify - You are on Stock RUU (not FreshROM, Stock Rooted, HarmonyROM - none of these will work!)
I didn't realize that Stock Rooted meant Stock, with root access. I may have thought (assumed) that was the actual name of a ROM. Since I clearly wasn't on that ROM, that step didn't really resonate with me.
I can't be 100% certain really, but I do think that these rules were in place when I did S-OFF. I did it via flashing SU rather than JMZ...though that "shouldn't" make a difference.
If they REALLY want you to not have super user access during this procedure, they should perhaps elaborate a little on that rule I quoted. A newbie may not get all the implications of what being on the Stock RUU means.
If you recall, I didn't get prompted to approve Control Bear with SU permissions, nor was I given the option to install the 1.57 JBear HBOOT. This alone implies to me that I did the procedure with the newer method, and thus I must assume that the rules were laid out, and I didn't follow them 100%. I am glad that noting went wrong with my procedure.
TaiPan,
If you decide to go back to Unlimited and get on IRC, I am confident that someone will be there during normal hours. Last night, you got on pretty late, and that's probably why nobody was there to help you.
That being said, it's been well documented on this forum that the people at Unlimited expect you to follow their rules and procedures to the letter. Any deviation will likely result in them scolding you to some degree. Since you were on JMZ, you technically didn't follow their rules. I don't know if this means they will refuse to help you, or if they will help you, but make it seem like you killed their kittens. I wouldn't let that stop you from asking for help though. Also, which OS are you using for Windows? If it's not 32 bit Windows 7, then they'll scold you for that too. Again, don't let this stop you from asking for help. The worst thing they can do is say NO.
