Root [S-OFF] Juopunutbear S-OFF -Beta Release

I just wanna say thanks for this! Took me 4 hours tho. xD Got tired of using a wire. Tried a paperclip and it worked perfect on 3rd try. I suggest using one of the smaller paper clips that are colored. The color I believe is a rubber wrap on the metal wire. Therefore touching it with your finger won't have an effect. :]

If anyone encounters the qhsusb_dload driver error under Windows you need to make sure you have qpst installed which will install the correct driver

I'm finally going to S-OFF later and I just wanted to know if I could do the procedure with Windows 7 64-bit and Harmonia as the ROM on the phone? I'm a little iffy with doing the wire trick cause I just got the phone and all of this is new to me.

Not officially, but yes, you can do it.

I used Win7 64bit and Harmonia with no problems once I found out you need Qpst installed or the process won't complete due to a missing driver

I tried it today using an ubuntu live CD and harmonia and got nothing for my efforts except a phone that I had to reflash boot, recovery and restore a backup. Multiple tries at the wire trick failed until the program said there was no flash card present. I have said this before s-off is so easy, unless something goes wrong.

I don't think it is as valuable as it was before. There is 4ext, flash image gui and fastboot for flashing most kernels. I don't believe there will be another firmware update for the Evo V 4g. So that leaves JB roms which will not work with Hboot 1.57. Just my .02 c.

Qpst? I don't have that installed and I got S-OFF perfectly fine with 64-bit.

The JuopunutBear wire trick doesn't require the diagnostic drivers that QPST uses and in fact specifies the HTCDriver3.0.0.007 drivers linked from the procedure on the unlimited.io website.

The current version of the process specifies flashing the RUU and HTC unlocking as prerequisites but doesn't specify a rooted ROM. Here is the procedure to follow if you want to do it the way it is currently documented by unlimited.io:

1. Relock the bootloader if it's currently unlocked
2. Flash the RUU
3. Download and install the OTA
4. HTC unlock the bootloader
5. Perform the JuopunutBear procedure on unlimited.io
6. Flash custom recovery
7. Flash superuser, restore a nandroid, or install a rooted custom ROM
I don't know if anyone has actually tried doing it this way or not but if you want support from the unlimited.io staff that is the current procedure they expect you to follow.

Finally achieved S-Off. At the end I got a not connected message. When I started control bear again, it exited and said already s-off. Everything looks and works like it is s-off. (Harmonia and Ubuntu 12.04 live cd)

So can you turn s-off while on a custom rom i.e mobsters unSENSEable?

I wouldn't recommend it, Unlimited will only provide support if you're on the stock rom, I would definitely suggest this but if not at least a stockish rom like Harmonia or Midnight, once you s-off you can just restore your unSENSEable nandroid and be back in business in less than 10 minutes. :p

They say to be stock.. Personally I wouldn't even risk it. How long does it take to flash a stock rom to do the wire trick on. Then just nandroid back after you are s-off.

Edit: Ninja'd by OverByter! Said almost the same thing :p

There you go, answered exactly the same by two different people... Better go stock ;)

So I was a evo v bearer for about three days I got the Qhsusb or whatever it said couldn't find fastboot or adb drivers was on stock rooted rom h-boot 1.57 everything was correct I think I own a paperwieght back to money grubbing verizon least I like my samsung and it aint so Damn confusing if any ideas I'm just gonna plug it in til morn and not sleep cause I feel like a idiot and maybe it will work

Pull battery, volume down + power to get into boot loader. Put phone in fastboot, relock the boot loader and then run the ruu and it'll fix it. I had this issue and had to run ruu twice. The only way I could get by the qhsusb issue was to install qpst before starting the s-off process.

Do you think the newbie thread needs an update to reflect this? Perhaps a statement early on that if S-OFF is desired, to do it before flashing SuperUser, or installing a custom ROM?

Do we know yet if Superuser on a stock ROM interferes with J-Bear in anyway?

I think someone needs to try getting S-OFF exactly the way it's documented on the unlimited.io website before making changes to any existing guides. My guess is that rooting before doing S-OFF with the current version of JBear won't be a problem but I haven't used that version and theoretically you won't get support from the unlimited.io staff doing it that way.
