Root [S-OFF] Juopunutbear S-OFF -Beta Release

The phone originally shipping with GB, on the unlimited.io site there's actually 4 versions of juoponutbear depending on your software. There are GB and ICS versions for both Windows and Linux.

Sorry if I'm bugging you, but I want to get this right.
I'm on the stock-odexed ROM here: http://androidforums.com/evo-v-4g-all-things-root/560846-rom-evo-v-4g-stock-rom-deodex-odex.html
Will it work with this ROM? I see that it says the stock RUU, but then it says rooted. I'm a little confused coming out of Complete Newbie's Guide.

Also, do I HAVE to have an sdcard in while I do the wire trick? It would really be nice if I could just take it out and then put it back in after I'm done. I don't have another sd card to use. Or, alternatively, could I just transfer all of my files from my sd card and then put them back on? Don't you have to flash a ROM after getting s-off? Or can I just go back into the ROM and and restore my files if I don't have to flash a ROM?

Okay, I haven't done s off but I can try to answer these.

The stick Rom is suggested to s off. I would suggest a spare sd card if you can get one, just in case. You COULD copy it all to your pc, but you do run a risk of the sd card bricking. After S Off you probably should flash a new Rom, as the stock isn't compatible with certain Hboots.

Oh my goodness. I feel like the god of all of HTC S-Offing. I got it on the FIRST try!!!!
*excessive celebration flag called, 10 yard penalty on the kickoff*

Awesome! Congrats! I still need to do it. Eventually. Maybe...I'm so lazy though, and prefer sense roms over aosp/aokp/miui, so there's really no need I suppose.

I'm glad that you were successful. For everyone's reference an sdcard is required because jbear creates a backup in case things don't go according to plan. Also as Prinny stated using a spare 2 gig is highly recommended because the only jbear hardware issue that I've ever seen is the rare possibility of borking the card if you don't get the timing correct.

If anyone cares I just did this on windows 8 64 bit. Ran it in compatibility mode for windows 7 (don't think it mattered). Successful for me, paper clip used.

unlimited.io? I just clicked it and it works. Try just typing it into your browser, perhaps?

I think I did something wrong. I ran the RUU and after a few seconds it said it could not complete the RUU process. I completed the steps in the newbies guide to root/unlocked and flashed the odex ROM as instructed before attempting the RUU. What am I doing wrong?

Are you s-off?
No. I started with a fully stock phone yesterday and followed the guide. Did the HTC bootloader unlock and root/ROM as outlined in the newbies guide thread , skipped the 4EXT step and the S-OFF was the last step that I'm stuck on.

Since you're s-on you need to re lock the bootloader with fastboot command fastboot oem lock

And then you'll be able to run the Ruu.

Should I have done S-OFF first then? I'll give it a shot.

No, you're fine. Although many people have had success gaining s-off on other stock based roms, Unlimited.io suggests that it will only work if you run the RUU first. They will not offer support unless you followed all the instructions. Your game plan will look something like this.

  • Relock Bootloader
  • Run RUU
  • Unlock Bootloader
  • Flash Recovery
  • Flash SuperSU Patch
  • S-off
  • Profit!

Now running the RUU it has another error. "Error[140]: Bootloader version error. Please get the correct RUU and try again."

I'm using RUU 1.0.5.2011. Do I need a different RUU version or do I need a different bootloader? I relocked the bootloader successfully with the command you provided.

Also, how do I get it to boot like normal if it's stuck on the HBOOT screen with the little Android on a skateboard at the bottom?

Sometimes I forget if I'm in the evo V or evo 3d section. I'm going to assume you have taken the update which updated your main version. There isn't an RUU out for that but luckily there is a fix.

You will have to be unlocked again, and make sure you still have root (which you should since the RUU has failed).

Download the file in this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34239031&postcount=130

Flash that through recovery, then relock and then try the RUU again.

Also, will you please link me to the RUU you downloaded. The number you posted didn't look familiar to me. I'll admit, I'm not as familiar with the Evo V files as I am with the 3D, but there is only one Evo V RUU available, and that number didn't look familiar to me.

For the record, once you are s-off this won't matter. You can Run an RUU that goes backward in version numbers, and you also don't have to lock the bootloader before running the RUU.

I have no idea where I downloaded it as it was from a few weeks ago. The filename is as follows:

RUU_Shooter_ICS_35_S_Sprint_WWE_VM_1.13.652.2_Radio_1.06.00.0426_NV_1.53_144_release_262287_signed

Yes I got the OTA update but the version changed when I did the root/ROM so I thought it overwrote the OTA update.

Okay, that is the correct RUU. You just need to flash that setmainverLOW.zip to trick your phone into running the RUU.

Drr.. I was trying to unlock again and it wasn't working since it was already unlocked. Going to relock now and try RUU.

RUU running now.

So for future reference how do I reboot the phone into Android OS if I'm stuck in the HBOOT screen? What's the ADB/fastboot command?

Ok this is frustrating as hell. So many damn hoops to jump through when my Optimus V was literally 1 click to root and everything was a cinch.

Ok RUU flashed, rooted, and unlocked. Now time for [more] fun :).

The Evo 3d used to have a 1-click method, but it was patched a long time ago. Now we must resort to wire tricks, etc.

Imo, it's more fun this way. You are actually involved in the process and learning something rather than just clicking an icon... Good luck on the wire trick. Work of advice, hold the second tap. Tap (pause about 2 seconds) tap and hold.

Ughh, commerce hitting head against desk...

Now what? Unlimited FAQ says it's due to non-stock ROM or HTC Sync being installed but I know it's stock due to the RUU, and I uninstalled HTC sync last night.

Ignore above, I re-downloaded the files and I think I had a Sprint Evo 3D version in the first place. Tried the VM version and SUCCESS!

Where do I go from here? What is 4EXT from the guide and do I need it?
