Root [S-OFF] Juopunutbear S-OFF -Beta Release

What hboot are you using, and, if you don't mind, could you provide a link/reference?

I am using hboot 1.5. I will gladly host it on my drop box. I assume that you can use it with evo v, but I'm not 100% sure. Let me find out before I post up the link because I don't want to brick your phone or anything.

And as for the rom I am using Paranoid Android

i did everything got the s off and it telles me i need to manually format sd... how do i do this i dont understant the directions for the unlimited.io pagemy phone is stuck on the bootloader or the green arrow boot....i put the sd card intoo my laptop and formatted it there still same thing.....

EEk!!! If you don't understand the instructions you should ask before getting stuck in the middle of a potentially damaging process

As for the green arrow, it sounds like one of two things:
1.) You haven't gained s-off yet and your phone is still on the juopunutbear screen... Does it say juopunutbear or control bear or anything on the screen?

2.) You are on the stock recovery screen. This could only be possible if you booted recovery instead of flashing a recovery. Because you have to be rooted to even run the s-off software...

It's been awhile since I've seen the control bear screen. I think I remember it having a green arrow... Did you get the confirmation that you are s-off in command prompt? If you failed at the wire trick it will say "still sober". When this happens it restarts your phone to the control bear screen and you have to run the software again and try again. You have to keep trying until you get the timing right and it works.

Once successful it will say something about having the perfect amount to drink and then it will ask you if you want to install the custom juopunutbear Hboot.

I think you might just need to keep trying. Here is a good video showing the timing of the wire trick: How to Get S-Off on HTC Evo 3D using Wire Trick! – [Juopunutbear S-OFF] | HTC Evo 4G Hacks!

Also this process can damage your sd card... If you have a spare you might need to use it :/

lurker here.

tried to s-off when i got bored of sense roms. i followed things pretty meticulously and always ended up with the QHSUSB_DLOAD error. problem ended up being my stupidity of using windows vista, first try on a 7 laptop and i get s-off in one shot. pretty happy right now. :]

can i copy all the information in the sd card and wen i finish paste again back to the memory

Yes. I would recommend backing it up to your computer. Especially if you don't have a spare card to use because the process can wipe your card.

The video someone posted a few pages back is really really helpful. I read about the wire trick and I'm like what the heeck?? After watching the video I thought hmm this isn't tough at all so I gave it a shot and it didn't take me long to get S-off. Not tough at all.

yea me too.

can i do this before activated my phone or i should activated and then do it

You know, I'm not sure. I have never ran into a scenario where someone hadn't already been activated. Is there a reason not to just get all activated first? Only curious.

I don't see why it would make a difference but I just can't say for sure.

It would probably just be best to click the support button on the unlimited.io site and just ask them over there. You can get a definite answer in just a few minutes!

does stock RUU mean stock rom ? im s-on, rooted, bootloader unlocked, can i just flash stock odex rom, from http://androidforums.com/evo-v-4g-all-things-root/560846-rom-evo-v-4g-stock-rom-deodex-odex.html, to get stock RUU ? will flash odex lock bootloader ?

You can just flash the stock rom. It different than the ruu for the fact that the ruu will make you stock/unrooted. So if you ran the ruu, you would have to re root before getting s-off.

And flashing the stock rom will not lock your bootloader. But locking your bootloader would be required to run the Ruu.

So just flash the stock rom before the wire trick. The ruu will be a lot more unnecessary work!

I'm trying to get S-off and I keep getting the same as post #270. (No one seemed to answer him)
"waiting ADB.... (12/60)** deamon still not runningerror: cannot connect to deamon"

Screen on fone shows "juopunutBear" with green down arrow

Same results after six trys.
When I try to run controlBear as administrator it says "critical failure ...files missing"

Thanks for any advice. I'm on harmonia 3.17

can i accept the recent update in the odex stock rooted rom? if yes , will flashing Harmonia erase or overwrite the radio fix ? ( all i am trying to achieve is the radio fix without having to get s-off )
nevermind.. i think i was told no before..

Gotta be s-off for radios

Thanks, just got this working for me. Tried using the innards of a Cat 5 at first but after 10 failures went to a paper clip wrapped in plenum. The stiffness of the paper clip made it much easier. Also I noticed the light on the bottom side of the battery would flick off when I first touched the contacts.

I think the Cat 5 was too flexible but it may also have been that it wasn't a solid piece of copper and instead a bunch of strands that I twisted together.

Anyhow, thanks for putting in all the work on testing and publishing this.

I have tried my best to read this thread thoroughly and make sure I was not asking questions that have already been answered, but I am having a wicked hard time looking for them and like my wife always tells me...Im not perfect :)

So...without further adieu
-I have a HTC EVO V 4g running HBOOT 1.57 (Virgin Mobile)
-I am HTC Dev Unlocked, rooted, S-ON running the JmzStock_VM Shooter Odex rom.

Questions:
1. If I do the S-Off process, will it matter at all that I would still be running HBOOT 1.57? Would I need to downgrade my HBOOT?
2. I have read conflicting comments as to what ROM is necessary to get S-Off (wire trick). What ROM can I be running and the wire trick be successful? The JMZ Stock ROM that I am currently on?
3. If I choose not to get S-Off what types or ROMs or characteristics should I look for in a ROM (assuming it's not explicitly stated in the description that S-OFF is required)

Sorry for all the questions, but I feel that these threads get so big it's hard to locate all answers. If any/all of these have already been answered point me in the right direction and I will force myself to watch the MTV for 3 hours (or some other weird/crazy punishment)

Answers, maybe:
1. I don't think u need to downgrade ur hboot as i didn't.
2. I think u just need to be on stock based roms. I did mine on Harmonia.
3. Without s-off, U have very limited choice of roms ( i think only a few ), cant flash radios ( the recent update is a radio update. U'll be able to flash it in bootloader after gaining s-off ) and cant flash kernels.

You can either keep the same hboot or use the Juoponutbear 1.57.57 hboot, it gives you the option, I agree that either Harmonia or Midnight will work, however even though you stay s-on you can still flash kernels either through fastboot or using the Smartflash option in 4EXT recovery.

I think I picked juoponutbear hboot 1.57.5757 unknowingly... Does it offer any advantage over virgin hboot ?

I was/am able to get S-Off w/o any issues. I have read the instructions and followed them complete and I have figured out a few things...

* First, DO NOT install up to date drivers. Download & install the drivers found on Juopunutbear's website. Also download controlbear

*Second, be completely stock via (never been touched or) RUU flash. I know they say you need to be rooted but I never was and works perfect every time.

* Third, unlock your bootloader. Follow instructions found in the forums on how to do so.

* Fourth, I used a thin paper clip for the "wire trick". You will need some kind of tape to wrap around the paper clip so to make sure your skin cannot touch the actual paper clip. Bend it into a U shape with ends about 1 inch apart.

* Fifth, disconnect your phone from your computer then boot your phone into bootloader via holding the volume down key and the power key. Make sure your bootloader is unlocked at this point. Then take the battery cover off. Make sure to have a microSD card in the slot.

* Sixth, connect your phone to your computer (let it install any drivers if needed) making sure it says fastboot USB. Run the controlbear application in the controlbear folder and let it do its thing. When it says to do the wire trick take your paper clip and put it into the OUTER little hole next to the sd slot. With one end in the outer hole, tap the other end on the metal part of the sd slot for just a second. Then lift that end up for about two seconds then back and hold it to the metal for about five seconds. After that remove the paper clip and controlbear should be drinking bear. If you did it right you will then have S-Off.

I was able to do this on a completely stock rom w/o root and just the bootloader unlocked. I have done this a few times and works every time.

If you want to return to stuck everything just run the RUU program.

Have fun and good luck :smokingsomb:

Good advice, I would just add that you should use a spare 2 gig card if you have one, about the only unrecoverable issue that I've seen relating to the s-off process is borking your card if you mistime the wire trick.

I hate to be a noob here, but is my current ROM a stock based rom
(JmzStock_VM_Shooter_Odex)?? I realize it has the word stock in the title but I have see mention of people using RUUs as their stock based ROM, and this is not one of them. And what does "on Harmonia" mean? What is that?

Lastly, The Unlimited.io site says JuopunutBear won't work on Windows 7 64 bit. My computer at home as well as all computers at my work are 64 bit. Is there any other way to run JuopunutBear? Anyone tried running it on 64 bit with any luck?
