Root [S-OFF] LazyPanda S-OFF for LTEvo[Locked or Unlocked devices]

BenChase7

Android Expert
MOD Warning - previous issues with this tool have been cleared up, but it can be a tricky install procedure. Your phone can get set into the Qualcomm Download Mode. Don't Panic. That can be fixed but will require you to make a Linux live CD or USB stick to proceed. Read this thread, ask questions before proceeding if unsure.

A replacement thread with step by step instructions is coming soon.

I saw this today and thought it might be helpful.
LazyPanda S-OFF Public Beta | Unlimited.IO

(Mod's, please feel free to move or delete if this has been discussed/posted. I haven't been following the EVO LTE root threads b/c I havent got my new EVO... YET!)

I'm not going near it anytime soon, but thanks for posting it up. :)

And +1 to s-off not really being needed. We can do everything we need to with an unlocked bootloader and S-on. The only reason to have it would be to be able to go back to s-On and locked to hide the fact that you were ever rooted

EDIT:

Its not that I'm not excited to see this.... because I AM :) but I'm not going to use it until many others have.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
For clarification purposes for everyone else:

The website says that this WILL work for UNLOCKED, LOCKED, or RELOCKED devices!!

Is there really any compelling reason to do so? I know people are paranoid about warranty issues, but has anyone ever been denied a legitimate claim simply because they were rooted/unlocked?

It will probably make getting any repairs you need go smoother, but its not required. It voids your HTC warranty not your insurance.

See my edits in the last post for more information. Once this thing gets proven to work for everyone I WILL be using it. Because theres no reason NOT to have S-off.:D

I should have my ltevo in a few days... This is just in time for me. ;)

As for those saying the devunlock is just as good, it sure wasn't on the e3d. Yes you could get things to work once you figured out the work arounds for it, but the s-off phones just did everything right. Once I get my new phone and they get the windows version working I'll be a guinea pig. I'll never own an s-on phone again. :)

HTC finally got HTC dev to work right now that this device was released after it came about.

You can flash splash screens, ROMS, radios, kernels, ect all with S-ON through recovery.. no workarounds

There is now a windows version up

Now theres a lot of temptation.....

Possible SMS send problems.. grrr

(yeah I'm the idiot that said don't do it and then did it)
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Fixed:
Place a call after getting S-off (not to *2, a real call to a real person) and SMS works fine after that.

whew :D

All is well

I couldnt resist..........

Confirmed windows version is working!!!! :D I am now S-oFF

Your action here are totally irresponsible. We may have to ban you.

Thanks to you, I forgot that the root community types as I do - they say what to do first, then say what you ought have done before that.

So, no thanks to you, I didn't read the instructions.

First, I downloaded the Linux instruction, expecting to see a script that I could decompose.

Did I find a script that I could decompose? Nooooooooo. I found an ELF that required me to wait until my Linux node finished backing up.

Did I try the Win version because I couldn't wait for that backup to finish and without first uninstalling my existing HTC drivers?

Yes. Yes, I did.

Did it work?

No. No, it did not. After munching tasty bamboo, it told me I had the wrong drivers.

Did I violate the instructions, remove programs my existing drivers and install the new ones, unplugging my phone when I ought not have, but did because I had faith in my decades of systems programming experience?

Yes. Yes, I did.

Do I now look like a brain damaged monkey for having survived the attempt?

Yes. Yes, I do.

Can I substantiate that I did all of this s-off stuff despite me not having the common sense that God gave a hammer to RTFM first?

Yes. Yes, I can.

So, do I have proof that I made it through successfully?

No. No, I don't. I didn't safeguard my stupid clipboard between session.

Is my real gripe that I got to s-off this way, but despite all of the above, you are correct, that this gets you to s-off?

Yes. Yes, it does.

Sweet bejesus RX, you're an animal!!! :D S_OFF BABY WOO HOO!!

PS: Here's the XDA thread for anyone who wants to read it:
[S-OFF] LazyPanda S-OFF - Sprint HTC EVO 4G LTE

Oh, just stop before I ban you, too.

If everyone tries this, they'll end up with s-off, just like Rxpert and me.

OBTW - just so long as I'm in the neighborhood -

Mad props to Rxpert from EarlyMon The PearlyMon! ;)

You are officially the first one here to get s-off, I followed your leader.

Now for the important bits -

Is s-off really required?

No. No, it is not.

Will you resist?

No. No, you will not.

Enjoy s-off, you crazy cats, and hang a mega thanks on Ben and Rxpert for this shiznitz! (no longer street, but sanctioned by the rules, what can I say? :D)

TL/DR - I've got s-off! :) :) (happy s-off dance)

so what does it say now, unlocked, s-off, tampered, what??? :p

It says Lazy Panda (where revolutionary would have been on the EVO), S-OFF, and no mention of LOCKED/UNLOCKED if I remember right

They are working on getting the red HTC spashscreen text gone. But only s-off users can get that removed I think

And to Early.... I was very much confused and worried that you messed up your device until the very end there. :D

Link not working there Rocky.

As Lt Cmdr Data said to Cmdr Riker - Something must have happened during transport.

Running that through my Universal Translator, I get - I think that's a perfectly cromulent link, try it again; I was embiggened to see that it worked! I'm sure that the mods know about much about it as a pig does about Sundays! :) :D

I'm getting my PkMn startup screens, same as it ever was. Same as it ever was. ;)

It does indeed say S-Off with no mention of tampered, but what's funnier than four donkeys and a duck singing Christmas carols is that when you boot into the bootloader, there's no option to go into recovery - this is the Old School bootloader, the way nature intended.

Options are -

  • Bootloader
  • Reboot
  • Reboot Bootloader
  • Power Down

And only by selecting Bootloader from the above menu, do you see -

  • Fastboot
  • Recovery
  • Factory Reset
  • Simlock
  • Image CRC
  • Show Barcode

Does recovery take you straight to TWRP?

Yes. Yes, it does.

Has BenChase7 earned an exalted position in the history of rooting Evos?

Oh my, yes, he surely has!

Did we need s-off?

I don't know. Do we need to be this cool?

Did Ben invent this?

No. No, he did not.

Does it count anyway?

Yes. Yes, it does. This is not the big dev site - but it is the oldest and largest Android site happening, and all you crazy cats know what I'm talking about! :)

Yes, yes it does... the link I mean.

So, does this mean there will be an S back -on tool?

Not sure what folk are talking about this, in effect, restoring your htc warranty, they would still know that particular phone HAD been unlocked, wouldn't they?

they'll know ours have been unlocked because we already did the htcdev unlock. but if this works on locked phones, it's conceivable that you can turn s-on and flash the stock ruu and erase the root traces

If you did the HTC dev unlock using Regaw's one-click root method, they may know less than you fear. ;)

Correct, Regaw's root method cycled between 10 different accounts for HTCDev unlocking. It didn't actually use the information from your device...Or at least minimal information from your device.

S-OFF feels great. Take the plunge!! :D The water is warm!!

To Early...... Do I get some sort of fancy new badge for being the first S-off LTEVO on AF? :p

You mean first, as in - ahead of me?

Why, yes. Yes, you do.

So on the LazyPanda site under instructions it says:
Prerequisites:
Your phone must be rooted. Temp root is sufficient for this procedure. An unlocked devices in NOT required but is supported.
So does this mean we will need to use the Regaw method, then use LazyPanda after running Regaw? Also can one use the "One-click" root method then run this? If you do, does LazyPanda flash a recovery on for you or is that something you need to do on your own? I was under the impression that the Regaw method was the only way to get a custom (TWRP) recovery on your phone.

Here's the TWRP payload page, right from the team -

TeamWin Projects - TWRP 2.1 | TeamWin (note that you can just install the Goo Manager app from the Store to get TWRP)

Get unlocked (with s-off) - use the old 1-click method, HTCdev unlock, get TWRP --> or use Regaw's 1-click ---> then do this s-off.

Root is a finite space:

** Unlocked bootloader (s-off optional) -> so you can install custom recovery
** Custom Recovery -> so you can make backups and flash the goods
** SuperSU and Busybox installed to /system file partition -> gives root privilege and basic tools

^^ Can't get any more rooted than that, and the actual path or tools used are all secondary.

Use what's convenient for you. ;)
