Samsung Fascinate Lounge

This one isnt supposed to be as bad for snow as much as ice. They are calling for like a foot of snow but like 1/2" of ice on top. The local power company is already expecting 60-70% of county to be without power by tomorrow evening.
Yeah thats bad, even here thats bad. Anywhere USA is bad with more than 6" in a single day/night

Well bud I hate to leave you hanging seeing that I think we are the only to fascinaters up but Ive had to 4am mornings in a row and now this 2am morning Im finally wearing down.

Wow... I almsot just asked the dumbest question EVER...I think. I'm thinking of going back to stock to wait for Froyo DL09. If I restore the backup through CWM, does it restore root? Am I missing something?

Your root status will be the same before and after restoring a nandroid backup

Hello all :) Thought I would pay a visit here since I have been slacking on the forum front :o I don't remember being this busy in a while. Hope everyone had a great holiday/new year's eve! I'm going to try to keep popping in here a little more, especially since I feel behind when I scan through topics (like this thread :)) and my phone has been sort of annoying me with lag. I feel that I need to dive into OTB voodoo stuff unless something else is coming down the pipe soon (DL09, 2.3?)

nitsuj17, Happy (very belated!) Birthday!

Kaessa, I'm very glad to hear that your husband is doing better :)

Saps, good to hear that your business is doing well starting out this new year :) By the way, back in December here in Central New York we received half of our annual snowfall within a week and a half period with 2 separate snow storms. That equated to just over 5 feet where I live. I'm guessing by now we have gotten over 100 inches for the season and the average annual snowfall is about 124 inches :) Some people hate it, but I love it :D

HELLO AGAIN FRIENDS!!!!

How are all of you?! Good I hope. Ok so Ive decided that I want to root, but I have no idea where to start and what is all involved. Essentially what I want to do is simply get the GPS and lag fixed as well as change some of the visual aspects like menu color, status bar icons and such. Nothing major, just some tweaking.

With that said Im still a slight bit skeptical and would like to trasnfer all my music from the phone to my new computer. For those who do not know, my house caught on fire and im on a new computer, but with none of the original CD's or files I had before besides whats on my phone, and before I run the risk of losing what I have left of my music(Its ALL on my phone) I want to make sure that it remains on my computer so I dont lose it all for good. Now I have double twist as well as itunes and I know how to transfer the songs from the phone (Connect via USB, copy and paste music files) but I want them to all show up in my itunes/doubletwist library. How do I do this? Keep in mind that im running Windows 7 and Ive been a mac user for several years now so any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

Same deal with the root. I know I want to go a more sense like direction, but again I have no idea where to start. Thanks in advance guys!!!

Sorry I've been absent so long. It's been a looooooong week.

Thurs/Fri - Wife comes down with the Flu
Sat/Sun - Car problems, massive freeze warning.
Mon/Tues - Birmingham is trying to thaw out, streets covered in ice, too much fun.

Anyways, yeah, for some reason the Samsung drivers failed to install on my wife's computer. I'll try on my computer next.

Hey red
Finally joining on root eh ;)

This remains the catch all thread for learning and reading. The 1st and 3rd threads will be your keys IMO but I also advise reading the whole thing.

BTW, hows that new laptop treating ya? Things still good at the pet store?

Glad you're back, one of the SF originals :D

Mhmm Things are very good. Love the new laptop and Windows 7. Never thought I would give up on mac so easily but I really enjoy this OS a lot. And yes, the pets are all doing quite well. I actually transfered to a much closer store so thats definatly a big plus.

And again, if you dont mind, I would like to figure out how to tranfer my music library thats on my phone to my new laptop and have all the songs work through Itunes and Doubletwist. I want to do this first and foremost before rooting.

Well Ive never used doubletwist and dont know much about itunes but I have to imagine you can just plug your usb in and mount the SF then just copy and paste from your sdcard to your itunes library on your lappy

Trying it now. Hopfully itll all work.

Im also a bit confused about all this. Once I root, where do I go from there? Is the phone essentially the same, just I now have access to things I didnt before? If so how do I access them and what exactly can I do. How do I change themes and the visual appearance of everything? How does this lagfix work? Sorry for all the stupid questions but I am seriously computer challenged and any more help would be...helpfull ha ha.

Yeah its essentially the same till you change it. Clockwork is going to be your key to salvation when it comes to new kernels and themes and roms. Stepping into a clean rom and a undervolted recently made kernel should give you a big boost in terms of responsiveness

Ok cool. Im learning :) Ha ha ok so here are a few more questions, what is a kernal, theme, and rom and the differences between each?

my usual analogy: kernel: engine, rom: body, theme: paint job

I've been borrowing your analogy lately, but trying to remember to give you credit for it, hope you don't mind bud.

And also I have a ? for anyone out there. I've noticed when I go outside to smoke and I'm playing with my phone in the cold after coming inside my phone freezes sometimes and I have to do a battery pull. I think it makes sense really cold to warm, just wanted to know if anyone else has saw this?

Maybe thats your phones way of telling you to stop smoking ;):p
I left my phone in my car for a few hours when we went sledding last weekend. I came back to it and check the phone temp with temp monitor it was 31

Ok so kernals essentially make the device run better, ROMS make the device easier or more streamlined? Im not sure exactly what you mean by body. and obviously themes just change the overall pretty package. Now is there a good program or help page that will take me step by step through each install? I understand the page you linked gave me a list of links to install, but something maybe a bit more "uniform" if you will. Ha ha maybe I should just wait for an Iphone.

No you just have to read the previous links. Honestly once you get clockwork on there its all down hill :)

Ok cool. Ill go back and take a look and possibly try to root after I get home from work tonight. Again when I look at the install instructions and such, it all looks very complicated and over whelming. Like what does flashing a rom mean? How to I manage all these things a little better? Is there ANY apps that I absolutly NEED? Again sorry for all the stupid questions, I just REALLY do not want to get halfway through the root and back out because its too involved or possibly screwing up and bricking my phone.

whenever we say "flash" we are refering to putting a rom/theme/mod/kernel etc on your sdcard...booting to clockwork recovery...and installing it :)

"essential" root apps imo...titanium backup, root explorer, android terminal emulator, barnacle wifi legacy

"useful" adfree, minifree manager, adb wireless
