Samsung Galaxy Prevail update?

I'm really frustrated with this phone, I want to put my boost account on my Droid 2 but I can't find a good cdma workshop... any suggestions?

I'm sorry you feel that way. The Samsung Galaxy Prevail was not tailored to be a super high end Android. In fact it's an Entry Level Android. Meaning it was made for people whom are new to the android. It's not as sophisticated and thus allows them to enter the android market. Thus why it's referred to as an 'entry level' android.

The biggest reason for my frustration isn't the capabilities of the device its the fact that I stupidly did the update without looking into what it did first. Guess I'll just have to wait until someone figures out how to root it again.

Yes you can root it before activating it. When you get it make sure to do the steps listed to put on shabbymod before calling boost or going on the website or anything.

Things didn't go exactly as I planned, but it's all fine. Since I was porting a number from another carrier to the Prevail, it was going to take a while, and didn't hang around the Boost store long. I was watching it like a hawk for signs of life.

As it recognized the network, it tried to do the normal security update.Nothing was forced or mandatory on activation, just the same update warning everyone else has been getting. I told it "later" and have ignored it all day, nothing else has gone wrong. The phone has worked fine for mail and messaging all day, haven't tried a voice call yet.

As soon as I get home tonight, I'll be rooting and making it Shab-tastic! So thanks to all of you who participate in this forum, and saved a n00b like me from kicking my own ass.

Keep up the good work, Mr. Penguin, and all your minions too!

You need to use a root/su file manager. Some start at the sdcard, make sure you go all the way back, and the /cache folder should be listed. The filename will look similar to this: cf7ef825e071.update_SPH-M820_ED13ToEE14.zip (I copied this from above)

now that i did the fake update by deleting the file
cf7ef825e071.update_SPH-M820_ED13ToEE14.zip then clicking update reboot like you said on a post i have a file called recovery is that recovery a rooted backup lol for my phone ? that i can revert to ?

i have a sam prevail and i am rooted i did the update lost root and rerooted and i regained my root. im new at this but was able to reroot by using the one click.

You rerooted using the root tool on this site, or you used the program called one click?

looks like samsung patched the change, not the exploit itself. we just verified in IRC that my rooted/patched(unrooted) phone was just rerooted using oneclick.

Is it known if you had to be previously rooted (IE removed some bloatware or something ect) To root again after update?

I wasn't able to root before the update (found out about it a day after activating my phone so the update auto-pushed) and would love to root if possible.

Odd several people have tried and they haven't been able to reroot after the patch. Are you sure this isn't a fluke or something? I'm assuming that things are as you say since you verified it in IRC.

I wonder if that means that the 1-click-root has only to be slightly modified.

I Just Rooted With The Same One Click Root With The Update. I Couldnt Before & It Was Giving Me A Cannot Find Device Error Before.. But Playing Around With It. (Turning Phone On & Off & Then Running The .bat) I Got It 2 Root Again On EE14... So The One Click Is Still Working...

Just did it myself using One Click. Had to run it while the phone was rebooting but all went smooth. I can now tether and use Titanium Backup again. Woot... Thinking ShabbyMod will probably be my next step now.

I updated and rooted again too! Woot!

since the new one click root works, i would like to update my phone and then re-root. the problem is i have shabby mod .07 loaded installed, and cant update because of the biuld prop not being the original one. can anyone help me figure this out?
thanks in advance.

I dont think you will be able to apply the update unless you flash back to stock, which I dont think is possible yet.

sorry, but good news is, I think Shabby, and interdpth are working on a stock flash. I could of sworn I did read that somewhere on here.

Perfect! Got to do some work tomorrow morning myself. Look forward to it. Good Clean Fun for a Saturday! I may try it without a wipe this time. Does everyone wipe their phone after the flash? i got the stuff backed up.

I was wondering if there is anyway to revert (undo) the update that blocks root access because my phone accidentally updated at activation and now i cant get wifi tether which i was planning to do.
