Samsung Galaxy Prevail update?

I pulled the update out of my cache and put it on my computer and looked at it, now im not knowledgeable enough to do anything thing with it but one of these smart guys have you seen a way to change the root part of the update? or maybe incorporate some of the framework updates into a future shabbymod?
Or the libbluetoothd.so Perhaps that was meant to address the lockups experienced while using bluetooth? Again im not smart enough to do any of these things, im just smart enough to get dangerous lol.
Also I see the update addresses the recovery maybe it will give an in on putting your own recovery on.

problem is even if we alter it.. then its not signed and then it wont flash..

however we are looking into getting updated files for shabbymod ;)

Figured they would have a buzz kill on some of it, but I am happy to see a possible work around, getting the updates another way.

I'm a little confused now. I am rooted, and have removed pretty much all of the stuff that was deemed safe in the Uninstallable Preloaded Apps List thread, but the update still got pushed to my phone, and was downloaded to my /cache folder. I'm not complaining about the annoying pop up because I was planning on putting the Shabbymod on today, but why did it still happen even though everyone says removing bloatwear stops it?

I just love how Google has taken years of work and dedication by the Linux community and applied a Microsoft-like model to the Android operating system. Let's lock it all down, assume the users are stupid, and make people jump through hoops and find exploits to make the operating system truly useful.

Thanks to all of you who are working on finding a new way to root this phone. I got the update while I was sleeping and just applied it without thinking when I woke up this morning. So I'm un-rooted. And now my phone's back to being pretty unusable because it doesn't have nearly enough internal storage for the apps I need. So, it might be bye-bye Boost and bye-bye Samsung for me.

The update is applied because the phone is broadcasting it is the samsung prevail and that will only change if you update the build.prop.
The update has nothing to do with removing bloat.
One thing I really dislike, and am glad that we have unlimited everything, this update was downloaded without my consent and thus could have used up data time.
If boost throttled after downloading so much gb's worth this could have caused my usage to go into throttled mode. Not saying it did but you understand.

Does the update include anything more than a security fix or a bluetooth update? Just curious. The update popped up on my phone which i thought was an update for an app, but failed to install. When I check for a new firmware or android update, it says my phone is up to dates and shows the version 13.

Yeah I should have paid better attention to what was being updated as I also lost my root and have Superuser orphaned on my phone and I cant uninstall it ;(

From looking through it I see several updates,

Some sort of update for recovery, I dont know any more then that

bluetooth updates it looks like, possibly some hardware updates, I am thinking they would help with the laggy and freezing issues
It shows iq_client I dont know what that is.
system utility's again making the system work with the hardware better is my guess.
And of course re-odexing and patching the exploit.

iq agent? :D i know what that is

The update fails on my device

"assert failed: apply_patch_check...blah blah....installation aborted"

Cause i dont have my email odex file.

anyone have the Email 2.2.2 apk? i cant seem to restore it from titanium backup.

I need the
system/app/email.apk and odex

This update will keep your from rooting and ruin it if you have one all ready. I found a way that will stop all updates without doings crazy procedure or changing file name witch can cause the file to continually download and drain your battery. here it is this will stop all updates from bothering you any more.

Update:

I got rid of the update reminder on startup, I'll let you know how long that lasts.

1) Download and install Autostarts
2) Under 'After Startup', locate entries for Google Services Framework. (My Prevail has 4 entries)
3) Click on them till you find the one that says at the bottom "Receiver com.google.android.gsf.update.SystemUpdateServiceReceiver" (4th one on mine)
4) On that same entry for the Service Framework, click Disable
5) Reboot the phone, no more update reminder.

The file swap with the build.prop from shabbymod (/system/build.prop) works fine as well. It doesn't activate any downloading in the background like you claim. In fact it deleted it when I restarted the phone. The modified build.prop prevents the update service from locating the update ;)

The autoruns method though is a great way for people to do it if they don't want to do any file modifications. Thanks for providing it :)

Ok I know where the file is in shabby's download, but when i connect my phone to the computer I cant find build.prop. where is it ? I do I swap it out ? Can anybody point me in the right direction ? Also is there a list of programs/bloatware and removed from Shabbymod .6 ?

When you connect your phone you only can access the sd card, so the easiest way to do it is to put the build.prop onto the sd card unconnect the phone and using some file manager that has root privileges move it to /system.
You can even rename your current one to build.prop.bak or some such so if needed you have it available.

Anyone would still has root, please move into the "OTA Update Announcement" Thread in the All Thing Root section of this forum. There will be a one click to update everyone with root soon.

Hey guys, new user here. I've been following this thread and unless I'm not looking in the right place, I believe that I have the update 14 on my phone.

Would this be the build number FROYO.EE14?

If so, then my phone is rooted under this 14 that seems to be disabling everyone else's

Would be happy to share any information as long as someone is willing to be patient with me and let me know where to look for it.

I went ahead and bought a new Prevail yesterday. The update will automatically take place upon activation. Before activation my new phone showed EE13, after activation it shows ED14.

I kept my rooted Prevail activated, and am damn glad I did because since 6:30am this morning I've been getting the update notice. I'll install the Shabbymod after work tonight. Hopefully, it'll go as smoothly as the root did for me.

I'm planning on buying a new Prevail very soon. Does anyone know if it's possible to root it before activation and prevent the auto-update?

if thats the case then if you could be so kind to join the irc in my signature so that we may get a dump of all the files :D

I'm really frustrated with this phone, I want to put my boost account on my Droid 2 but I can't find a good cdma workshop... any suggestions?

Yes you can root it before activating it. When you get it make sure to do the steps listed to put on shabbymod before calling boost or going on the website or anything.
