Samsung Transform

sceen looks to be a 3.2in. i would've liked to see at least a 3.5in. this is obviously a mid range android phone to replace the moment. if it had a 3.5 or larger screen, no data lock up and gps issues i would buy it. i too don't want to pay $10 more for service i cant yet access. htc needs to release a htc slider phone also. motorolla and other manufacturers? where are you. if sprint wants to stay on top we need more phones and choices. make 4g data access optional. charge $10 for ppl who want 4g.

Impossible to tell what the screen size is, honestly. Anyone who takes a guess is most likely going to be wrong.

it has a 3mp camera im pretty sure its not going to be a super phone like the galaxy s line much less have a large screen. the screen dimensions in the pic is more in line with a 3 or 3.2in screen. more pics and info in the pdf file that's on boy genius report article. but yea who knows i maybe wrong. :o

Oh great... Another phone for us to troubleshoot. I'm guessing they're dropping this for those without 4G in the area that dont want to pay the extra $10 so it would actually be a smart move on Sprints part. Especially since they Moment is no longer on Sprint.com. But we shall wait and see.

The Galaxy U has a 3.7" screen, so it may have a 3.7" screen, who knows.

The Moment's 3.2" screen is fairly tiny, and the device looks like it would have a bigger screen.

We won't know until specs are released or someone gets their hands on one...

EDIT: UPDATE - looks like a 3.5" screen: http://www.androidguys.com/2010/10/06/exclusive-details-leaking-upcoming-sprint-handsets/

imo 3.5" is the minimum price of entry for Android / smart phones these days. So this is at least not a tiny screen that makes web browsing a pain.

Yeah, I didn't think it would be smaller than 3.5. It looks a lot like the Epic on the surface, but with a Moment's keyboard. There is no fifth row of keys for numbers, which means it wasn't likely to be bigger than 3.7".

I'll have to see what it's like in the store before I can make a decision about it really. It looks to be a perfect phone for my daughter though. I don't think she wants something bigger than that really, and it has the physical keyboard she wants as well. :)

If the Transform has the underclocked hummingbird processor like the G2 then it'd be worth giving up my Moment for...

So the G2's processor is an underclocked Hummingbird? I didn't realize that! Is it underclocked because it can't reach 1GHz, or did they just knock down the speed to purposely keep it out of competition with the Galaxy S series?

I'm just wondering if rooting the Transform and then overclocking the processor to 1GHz would kill it or make it more Galaxy S-like. :D

haha i guess u were right. those earlier pics of the screen weren't proportional correct. 3.5" is good. i'm surprised it doesn't have 2.2. will this phone ever get 2.2 or higher in the future. samsung isn't the greatest with updates and support.

I've read conflicting comments about this. Some sites are saying it will ship with 2.2, others are saying that it will receive 2.2 shortly after its released. I have a feeling Samsung is gonna be giving the U.S. Galaxy S phones Froyo at the same time as this phone (if it doesn't ship with Froyo already). My guess is by the end of October. There is quite an outcry for 2.2 from all Galaxy S users, so I think they will try to get it out ASAP.

All of these new android phones are underwhelming...transform, zio, optimus. Seriously Sprint. Verizon has the Incredible, Droid X, Droid 2 & Droid Pro. Now the iphone is coming early next year. Outside of the Evo and Epic, Sprint has crap. And coming out with three lackluster android phones doesn't really cut it. All are entry level or one step above at best. I have some new phones to buy between November and February, and it's just sad to see the evo and epic will still be the only real options. Unless wp7 brings a phenom phone or "early next year" for webOS means January, there isn't anything to look foward to.

The Transform at least gives people a non 4g slider with decent specs, but the phone price lines up with the Epic on Amazon. The Zio and Optimus seem like major steps below the Incredible which is what Sprint really needs. Two 4g phones, two premium 3g phones: one slider, one slate each. A bargain android phone, which the optimus and zio seem to be. Overkill. And they could use a portrait style phone be it like the droid pro or portrait slider.

i guess sprint just feels its enough. they can't go ballistic with new phones like verizon. sprint isn't as big as verizon and has to choose its phone smartly. sprint now has a pretty good selection of android phones from low end to high. a high end non 4g phone like the galaxy s line would be good. not everyone wants 4g or a keyboard.

That was my point. Premium 4g slider and slate. Premium 3g slider and slate. Alternative form factor phone (portrait w/keyboard) and an economy phone.

They're already going ballistic. Did they need the intercept? Better support for the moment would've been easier and cheaper. And 2.2 on the moment would probably be pretty smooth. Now they have the moment and intercept that will die out because of the transform. There's no HTC successor for the Hero, but they need the Zio and the Optimus in the lineup as bargain slates? Leaving the Epic and Evo out of the situation, that's six android phones in the system within a year and a half. To me, that's going ballistic.

I had no beef with keyboard or no keyboard. I didn't mention a thing about not having slate or 3g options, so I don't know why you made the no 4g or keyboard comment.

Hopefully Sprint will introduce more phones. Maybe they're going for the low end casual consumer crowd with these lower end phones.

Would like to see mid-tier phones as well.

okaay. so i can't add my opinion in the mix of my reply to yours? adding three new phones to the lineup is not going ballistic especially over a period of time.

Mid grade phones sell well. The Epic and EVO sell well but are not consistant like mid price phones..

Spring will drop 2 more highend 4g phones and 2-3 Slates by Christmas. And the Rumor about the Samsung Tablet not having 4g may not be true.

Your opinion seemed like it was against something I said to the contrary, not a standalone opinion.

The Transform will be their only midgrade phone. The zio and optimus are entry level.
That makes five current android phones in the sstem if you don't count the intercept. And more are on the horizon? And that's not even getting into wp7 phones or new palm hard
