Root SBF/Gingerbread killed 3G on my phone. Warranty replacement on its way.

Hey always after sbf use ##7764726 security code 000000 then user activation and enter your min and mdn fixes all lost number problems plus fixes 3g

I hope I don't sound like a complete ******, but can someone explain this^^? I am not real sure what the min and mdn are... Any explanation would be most excellent. :D

Edit: We can't say ******?

Sure we can. Watch me...

******, in the ******ing ****** can ******ed ******'s ******* for ****** sakes...

****** all to hell! See, you can say that all you want around here. They don't care.

Hahaha. Good, for second there I was worried about them censoring ******ed words.

I remember before I knew what rooting was ,I was constantly having software issues with my D1,and I was walked thru several fixes. The last time I called, the woman used the droidforums to fix the phone. That was the last time I called Verizon for help.I simply started reading, and have never looked back....I did a months worth of reading and watching you tube videos before I rooted using doroot for windows....while I am not going to scold the guy who started the thread,I willsay that calling verizon is not cool at all.Once you tinker, its yours, and you are the warranty station.Id buy a used one off CL before I turned mine in for something stupid I did to it.I am willing to bet the phone was fine, and he panicked and jumped the gun,a little reading and posting here, and some help it would have been back up and running in no time........

I seem to be having this same problem as well. After installing the rooted GB rom for the Droid X. 3G has NOT been working at all. I may get a website to load every now and then. Calls and texts work fine however.

EXACT same thing happened to me. SBF 2.3.34, activated, rooted, bootstrapped, all no problem. Installed GB and bam, no 3G. Voice/text (1G) worked fine, but no data. 3G would come on by itself after like 15 minutes and disappear 5 minutes later.

So I started over.. downloaded a fresh 2.3.34 SBF just in case, installed it, activated, rebooted a couple times to make sure 3G came up and it did. Installed pre-rooted GB.

Works fantastic. GB is amazing and no warranty replacement was needed. :D

Sounds to me like you (OP) don't really know what you're doing and how to recover from either a blunder on your part or your phone not readily accepting things the first time through. I'm with binary vision on this one; you are a prime example why Moto and other phone manufacturers are cracking down (or the carriers forcing them to).

Yeppers!!! I would have to agree... Once you root your phone, it don't matter what hardware issues you have, warranty was voided at root.

Once again, I didn't go to Verizon looking for a warranty replacement. THEY are the ones that suggested it. If they had said "sounds like YOU messed it up and that's not our problem," I would've kept it and bought another used on CL. That's not the point of this thread, though - the point is to see if anybody else had a similar problem and/or if we can isolate what went wrong.

The holier-than-thou stuff has gotta stop, IMO. It's been demonstrated over and over that a bunch of people can follow the same instructions, using the same hardware & software, and have varying results. Some people have had zero problems, and at least one other person here has posted in this thread with the same problem (and a fix?). I'm not claiming to be an expert, but I don't think it's necessary to act like I walked into a Verizon store with my phone buried in topsoil asking them if I rooted it right.

Amen. "oh its so easy, you just have to do this..." "take responsibility" bla, bla, bla. I bricked mine and it was replaced just as the costco rep said it would be rooted or not.

Frankly there is a whole lot more critics here on the root forum than there is help for those who are having problems. When I ran against a wall with my OG droid there was always someone willing to help me straight away and keep replying to my posts until I was back on track and I tried to help others the same way. Look at the threads where people are asking for help on bricked phones. I don't see many of the naysayers in the above posts offering concrete solutions on how to fix the phone other than "hey I could have fixed it, or take it like a man". Look at all the "bricked" posts and see who offered help...few.
Honestly this forum has gotten the best of me. I have said it once and I will say it again the number of bricked phones by rooters is a fraction of a percent of the phones returned for other reasons. Rooting is the least of Motos worries.
Locked bootloader to keep us from having fun, it makes no sense. It was probably just set up for Motos convience and not ours. Really folks. To say that one, two, twelve, fifty or a hundred are spoiling your rooting fun by returning bricked phones is just plain silly. Motorola has more to do than figure out ways to keep our brilliant developers from getting access to our phones via root. The folks that read these forums are but a fraction of a percent of X, D2 Og droid owners. Out of those I would say there is only a fraction who root, and the bricked ones are just a grain of sand in the sea.

Either help the guy, or give him a break and shut up. Nobody needs to feel worse after they have spent days fricking around with their phone trying to get it right.

GB worked fine for some and not so well for others. It might be the user, the individual phone, the download he/she used or some other gremlin that was carried over from another rom but so be careful who you point fingers at. If this pisses off moderators fine, remove me. I have frankly had it.

Oh, please. You can agree or disagree with the criticisms on a bricked phone being warrantied, but this is just foolishness and clearly demonstrates that you are not paying attention to anything but the negative posts.

I just clicked on the first 21 threads on the first page of the Root forum that were asking questions on phone functionality/problems. Of those 21 threads, 16 were either resolved or actively being troubleshot by community members. 2 had other active participation (e.g. "I do this and have no problems" or "I installed it this way and it works" - helpful comments), and only 3 had no responses. Of those three, two were posted within the last 18 hours and so are likely to get responses (not the least of which will be my response to one of them when I'm done here).

Believe what you want, but the melodramatic "nobody is helping anyone it's all drama" comments are straight nonsense.

^1. There has been a lot of bickering on here lately over a number of things that all just popped up. but to say that noone is helping anyone is outrageous. even in this thread, where help isn't needed at all at this point, multiple people offered advice on what may have worked and what should have been done after the sbf. there is an obvious divide on some issues and opinions on those can be posted here. thats what forums are for after all. i think the experienced posters here, and even new posters, are doing a lot to help out all of the newcomers that are asking questions. we've lost some experienced users recently to the TBolt so the support line is a bit smaller than before. with a seeming influx of rooted users.

Everything will be fine. we just need to let the frustration of the recent developments die down a little more, keep plugging away at what we have to work with, and try to help as many people as we can in the process.

Never said nobody is helping, just noticing that if you look at the "bricked" posts you will not find help from most of those who have be knocking the "bricked, returned phones."

"there is a whole lot more critics here on the root forum than there is help for those who are having problems"

"When I ran against a wall with my OG droid there was always someone willing to help me straight away"

You'll forgive me for thinking you were saying nobody is helping since, well, it seems everyone is getting help when they need it.

So, what you're actually saying is because some of the specific people - who have said specific things in specific threads that you don't like - have not previously helped people in the forum, it makes the whole argument irrelevant?

Just because it's not "nice" to tell someone they're abusing the system doesn't mean it's not valid and doesn't mean it's wrong to criticize.

Are a lot of you people so crabby lately because your weather sucks and it's beautiful in other parts of the country? Just trying to understand where all this hostility has come from recently. This board was never like this or when it was a rogue post, it was handled very quickly with community policing itself but it seems post after post (not all) there is bash after bash. This board is better than that so chill the f out or I'm going to post pics of the mid 80's weather I'm enjoying :) lol

ps i love you

Not irrelevant, just put into perspective. No need for forgiveness, no offense taken. I was stating my opinion since I had been following the bricked posts during and after my debocle. I just really wanted to say that I think the locked bootloader is not due to rooted phones being returned. The percentage is too small to make a difference...and I think Motos designers and engineers learn a lot from our developers here so it just seems silly to cut them off on purpose. I could be wrong...but then again I think there was only one shooter in Dallas who acted on his own :).

Fair point. I'm definitely feeling crabby on this subject. I just don't think that the world always needs to be a bunch of happy sunshine and rainbows - if there's a problem, it should be called out and addressed.

BUT, I will take my crabbiness out into the 80 degree sunshine today and come back as a kinder, gentler binary visions.

Sunshine makes everything better! Oh and virtual hugs! who's in!?

Ok sorry I derailed a little, back to the topic at hand.

I am obligated to tell you that the last person who hugged me had their wallet stolen.

Edit: Didn't want the bad word showing in full force :)
