Just SBF'd from black glass back to 2.2 (thank you steven58).

Im now on android 2.2 with version 2.3.15.mb810

I want to get the latest OTA update, and it seems my phone doesnt find it.

Q- should i wait for this before re-rooting (wanna try apex, but need the newer/est OTA update)

help??

ps- this thing looks so generic to me... cant stand it!

Just go find the .320 SBF and apply it. It should be a 270 meg zip file that unzips to over 400 megs. then grab the system only .340 SBF floating around and apply that. Then you're upgraded all the way. enjoy the new roms. No need to wait for the OTA. you'll find links to these in the tranquility 3.6 thread. the TBH (team Black Hat) app also has download links to these files. I liked tranquility but my email didn't work so i switched to gummyjar and loved it. just be aware of the issues people (myself included) have had when using titanium backup with Tranq. 3.6 if you go that route.

thank you for the response. when you say to "apply" it, what exactly do you mean? Im still totally green here, and havent even found the file yet (much less know how to make it happen).

anxious to get rid of my atari4800 looking rom....

Here are the SBF files. You flash them just like .15. And when you say your phone doesn't find it, do you mean that you manually check for updates and it says it's up to date?

btw- anyone else have to re-program their phone afterwards? I had to get vzn to give me the numbers since i didnt have 3G activated anymore...

Correct, 320 then 340.

Reprogram, you mean activation, *228?

I've only had to do that after a factory reset or new rom.

You going to create a backup in recovery before you flash that new rom? :D

Absolutely ..... just need to clear the others off first..... (help?).. :)

Don't know if I needed to wait longer, but I had no txt or browser. Had to reset the codes first... it worked and vzn didn't seem to mind telling me them ... *228 didn't work after several tries. All the numbers were wrong..

Install Rom Manager and you can create/delete/rename your backups.

Since you're on 340, you'll want to delete all those old backups since they can cause you to be bricked.

Here's what my backups look like. (Don't use spaces in names!)

I hope to get that OCD about mine too. In fact, I've seen that before. I have a long way to go still. How do I access the backups while unrooted?

You might be able to get into CW Recovery after a battery pull, but I'd get rooted first.

Some people had trouble getting re-rooted after the OTA, but I think upgrading via SBF like you did, will work in your favor. FWIW, removing/inserting the battery repeatedly during the rooting process seems to speed it up.

Thanks for the help. Gonna re-root on monday... then I have to see which to choose.... apex or gummy. I liked the glass effect from 928.

Apex has a lot more Blur so will be closer to stock. When you install a deblurred rom, you have to start using other programs for stuff like email. One thing I'd really miss is the alarm program on my X. Don't use it often, but sometimes I need it to wake me up when traveling. Had to run a script to install it on Apex, but bet it's not an option on Gummy.

FWIW, I liked

  • Apex 2.3.1
  • Rubix Blurry 1.6.3, 2.3.20
  • Darkslide (ok, but the built in theme didn't move me)

Tried and quickly dumped

  • Tranq 3.0
  • Fission 2.4.3
I'm tempted to try GummyJar, but when they dump Blur, specify doing a factory reset before installing and I have to set up everything, including 3 email addresses, I can't say it'd be up long.

So no alarm clock for apex? I use mine to get up every morning (4am). Ughh. Nothing. Sure how to run a script ...... anything else missing like camera, etc.... thanks again for the guidance!

I am ready to try to "flash a rom", but when I try to make a backup via rom manager, it asks me to name it, I do (with no spaces), then the phone instantly reboots. On the startup, there is an icon that looks something like a triange with an "!" through it, but it's only on the screen for a second or so,then starts up normally. When I go to Mangage and Restor Backups, all I get is a black screen with a red circle that spins. at the bottom of the screen. That stays there like that until the phone goes to sleep. When I look at my SD card under the Clockwormd directory, there is not a backup folder. Anyone have any ideas IF I'm backup ro what is going on? Thanks in advance.

Scripts are on the 1st or 2nd post where you download apex 1.3.1... pretty easy.

Open Bootstrap and tap the top button. It should say you were granted supervisor, then "success". Then try your backup.

You could use the default name and rename it if it's successful.

Just tried that, same result. There is some sort of progress bar across the that does not go all the way across?????
Thanks again for help, I'll be on the forum most of the morning.

I'm questioning your root. You DID reroot, right?

Open superuser and see if you have an entry there for bootstrap. If so, it should be green. Probably not a bad idea to tap it and choose "forget". Then it should ask you again for permission.

NOTE: Did not see the "granting superuser" part. but z4root says I'm still rooted. Should I try re-rooting" viz z4root?

Thinking of trying a few themes (only) first. Im not unhappy with blurr really... first I need to do some serious cleaning and backing up... do I need to re-deodex for a theme?

According to superuser:
AdFree
CacheMate
Droid X Bootstrapper
Rom Manager
SetCPU
Shootme
Titanium Backup (Which I also don't know how to use)
Wireless Tether
ZR4oot.

I did root via z4root (I think) after ther OTA............ maybe I was still rooted after the OTA?
