Scratch-resistant Corning Glass

Same thing my T-Mobile Galaxy S2 has. Not Corning Gorilla Glass, Corning scratch resistant glass. No scratches on it yet.

Then again I keep it in a case with a screen protector and only take it out when I'm lying on a mattress in a bioclean room wearing a hazmat class 5 suit.

Scratch resistant is not the same as scratch proof :)
I worked for a major-chain optical years ago and we were specifically told to say "scratch resistant" lenses and NEVER say "scratch proof". Anyone who wears glasses can attest to that.

Anyway, I put a screen protector on all my devices. Eventually my kid gloves come off and I'll be I touching my device while doing something messy like cooking.

No screen protectors for me.... I like the natural feel. Besides this isn't going to be carried in my pocket were keys, coins, pocket knife and sand/dirt get into. I will probably have a folio type cover and think it should hold up quite well.

I am amazed to see videos of people letting their cats play games on their ipad and other tablets. I guess they really do build these things to never scratch.

I wonder if this is the same glass that the GNex has... Since it isn't listed as Gorilla Glass either.

Nothing is completely scratch resistant. That said, I never put screen protectors on my touch devices as it ruins the experience for me in regards to look and feel. I think if you use good judgement, your screen will be fine and won't get noticeable scratched without using a screen protector.

Agreed... screen protectors just slow down your finger and make it feel terrible.

What's the point of keeping a device pristine while hampering your usage experience? Do you really want a brand new looking device 5 years from now when it's hopelessly outdated? It's a tool, use it with respect and care and you'll be fine.

I hope the glass is better than the GNex effort. I love the GNex but it's the first phone I've ever owned which has a scratch on the screen without being dropped significantly.

Depends on the brand. I agree, some are sticky, like that awful Zagg.

My HP Touchpad has a matte finish protector that is more slippery than the glass. I still have one left and hope to cut it down to fit my N7.

on a N7 review on youtube the creator said he knocked the 7 off a table- it cracked the screen and was unresponsive, he did admit that it was a pretty dirty fall. i dont think i will have a screen protector. only reason i have one on my GN is for keys/coins etc.

i will say though, i had a heavy duty one on my droid inc and it fell out of a foldable chair cupholder face down onto a rock and didnt break, just a small mark on the protector. i was very impressed.

Which is completely unlike the silver back to any ipod, lol, nothing in the world gets scratched more easily than an ipod. I even had my 160gb ipod classic in a soft leather case from day 1 a few years ago and the back of that thing is a total mess!
Now it just collects dust.

This. My 80gig 5g video scratches so easily. I still use it though because it's a very solid device. It's the last Apple product I'd ever buy though.

My first iPod was the 5G 60gb iPod video in black! I was in love with that device way back in 2005 (it is insane to think it was $400 back then). I got it for xmas, but one time it got stolen at school, I managed to get it back thanks to a helpful principal, however, the person who stole it had tried to completely scratch my name out of the back of it, making it look like sh*t even though my name was still readable. In addition, since it was black and sleek, I named it "Stealth". The little bastard who had stolen it from me and put their own junk on it had it named "squirrel" and it was filled with Blink 182 songs and other crap.
I was sooo pissed because my dad was proud of getting my name engraved on the back of it.
But then it was Apple that really ruined my ipod for me, I installed a damn ipod update through iTunes which irreversibly removed the functionality of being able to turn the backlight on and off by holding down the middle button for 2 seconds. I could never get it back and it was infuriaiting. And then later on, it would constantly freeze up when pressing the menu button to go back a screen, forcing an iTunes restore to fix it. AND THEN even that no longer worked so I had to pry it open and unplug and replug the ribbon cables back in.
All 3 iPods I have owned have had some sort of incredibly annoying, debilitating behavior, all thanks to Apple's poor quality. Never, ever, ever again.

We had a Galaxy Tab 10.1 (not sure which particular glass it used). Dropped it from about 3 feet onto a wood floor and completely shattered the glass. It may be scratch resistant (to a degree), but a fall, at a particular angle no matter from what height can do quite a bit of damage.

I've been fortunate enough not to have my devices stolen. I dread the day though... As far as iPod reliability goes I've never had any issues and neither has anyone in my family. 2 generations of Nanos, 3 gens of iPod touch, a video. All still work like new.
ANYWAY, have we confirmed whether or not the screen is actually gorilla glass or just corning?

 Scratch-resistant, my a**.
I've been using this with "kid gloves" for less than a week. While waiting on a screen protector to come in the mail, I get a big obvious scratch right on the top of the screen.

I'm gonna contact Asus about the warranty

Sorry to hear that MetroSquard. I'm a little concerned about scratching mine too. I may have to invest in a screen protector.

I posted this elsewhere on this forum and I think I'm going to keep linking to it whenever people complain about scratching their glass:

Scratching the glass does not mean it was softer or more prone to scratching than any other piece of glass you've ever owned. It doesn't mean it's not scratch resistant, and it doesn't mean it scratched when it shouldn't have. All it means is you managed to create the right circumstance for it to get scratched.

Which might mean soft glass, of course, but you can't say "soft glass scratches easily. I scratched this glass. Therefore, this glass is soft."

By all means, complain that your screen got dung. I feel for you. But it doesn't mean anything universal about the quality of the glass.
