Root SD Card & rooting

I purchased my wife an Evo for Mother's Day and it arrived today...without an SD card. It's obviously a used one and overall looks to be in great shape. I was trying to think back to when I first rooted my Evo (I know...check the rooting for dummies thread) and I couldn't remember if there was already something pre-installed on the SD card when I got mine brand new. Do I need to put anything on her card prior to rooting, i.e. HTC Sync? Don't I need to install sync on her computer 1st to get the drivers on there and then uninstall Sync when I prepare to root it with Unrevoked? I should probably know the answers to these questions but apparently I'm a smidge confused.

Thanks!

no you don't need anything special on your sd card. not sure if you even need one to root your phone. i could be wrong. you do need the drivers installed on your computer, however.

If your using the same PC...you might still have the drivers installed. Check device manager
This was my thought. It should be (almost) exactly the same, unless maybe your wife's phone has a different hboot version. But even that shouldn't really make a difference, I think all of the rooting components (custom recover, unrevoked) work with all hboot versions. <-- could be wrong on that one though.

But you will probably want to grab a SD card for it at some point. ;)

They were installed, but I still had to install Sync for some reason and then immediately uninstalled it to begin the root process. All is well now and she is rooted. She now has an SD card...of course. :D

Matt...I mentioned in my 1st post that her phone came w/o a SD card. I still think you're the bomb though. ;)

Lol you said you couldn't remember if there was anything pre installed on your stock sd...answer is yes, htcsync.exe :)

Sorry it wasn't super helpful just jogging your memory :)
