Help Sending text to wrong person

I installed Handcent because I'm tired of the stock "sending text to the wrong person" glitch. I unchecked autoretrieve in the stock app and checked it in handcent. The stock app is still receiving messages and showing the ones I sent as well as the handcent app. I have handcent set as the default. How do I totally disable the stock app so it isn't doing that?

Go to whatever file explorer app you have and rename the stock MMS app. I don't know if astro will allow r/w access since its a system app. If you're rooted Root Explorer will allow you to rename or delete it.

Handcent should have an option for setting it as the default SMS/MMS app. Maybe try that, and go through the stock apps settings again and see if there's anything you missed?

I'm rooted and deleted the stock app, so maybe someone who's not rooted can chime in for more help..

The best way to disable the stock app is to rename it. Astro might allow you to do this. File Explorer would be another option. Just add '.BAK' or '.OLD' to the end of MMS.apk

You'll need to find it in system>app, just not sure if those file explorers allow read/write access to system apps to rename it. Worth a shot though.

I tried it and it won't allow system access. I guess there isn't a way to disable the stock app without being rooted?
