Sent... from an iPhone!!!

off topic . I had an sti than i switched to the so called " dark side " a.k.a Mitsubishi evo and i had nothing but problem. It had a glass transmission .It ran awful , had 2 codes for check engine and drank gas like nothing ( spent over 300.00 on gas per month).

why am i bring this up. well its kinda of like android be in The subaru Sti ( dependable )and the iphony like the evo.

The evo = the iphony . Every one wants one but when they have it . It becomes a head ache
The sti = android . very dependable. I can set my alarm on new years and it wont fail( you know what i mean iphony users )

I regret going to the dark side ( the mitsubishi evo 9) . I miss my sti . :(

One thing that's really bugged my messing with my son't iPod is how hard it is to do some seemingly simple things. For example, I finally had to resort to a Google search one night trying to find the contacts from his Gmail account. I installed the Gmail app, but couldn't find contacts. I looking in the Contacts app, and they weren't there. So I resorted to searching only to find out that to sync Gmail contacts you have to change a setting in iTunes and the only way to get the contacts to the iPod is through by hooking up to the computer and sync'ing. So even though it was pulling the mail into the app via Wifi, it couldn't do the same with contacts. How does that make sense? Of course I do understand that Google is a competitor, so they probably aren't interested in making it seamless. If I'm missing something it that case, let me know.

Although I typically would never defend the issues with iOS, there are many ways to sync contacts (even with the built in features). You CAN do it the way you stated, but there are several/much easier ways to just get contacts (or mail or calendar(or all)) on your device

I'm a reverse swithcer. I came from iPhone to DroidX.
Honestly, if the iPhone had been available via Verizon when I switched, I would have probably stayed with Apple. Why? Sheer investment in accessories. One of the great things about Apple's phone products is the number of available accessories and the tendency for those accessories to continue to work with new product releases.

"Fragmentation" is an issue across the entire Android product base. Major manufacturers (Bose, Phillips, Sony, etc.) create some wonderful hardware for iPhone to dock with. Android devices come in so many different configurations with so many different connectors that accessories tend to be built for single devices. My DroidX car dock probably won't work with whatever Android phone I choose next year. However, my old iPhone car dock works fine with the 1st Gen iphone, the iPhone 3G, 3Gs and the iPhone 4. Not to mention most iPods.

That said... I absolutely love my X... and my Moto Xoom. I never liked having to plug my iPhone into a PC just to copy media. Android, even unrooted, puts me in charge of my device, not my device in charge of me. I like being able to replace stock apps with apps of my own choosing.

Just want to point out, probably, there's far more compatibility for accessories among phones made by the same manufacturer. for instance, the same phone charger works for my droid x and my girlfriend's droid 2 (and i imagine many other motorola phones). the battery charger works for both as well, which probably means a car dock would fit too.

Nope. Car dock definitely wouldn't work for both the DX and the D2. The issue isn't the charger, which is just a standard micro B USB plug. The issue is the form factor. While you certainly could buy a generic car dock for your DX that would also work with the D2, those things are generally cheap. My DX car dock is the official from-the-manufacturer dock and it is specifically built to match the contours of the DX... no other phone, even if it used the exact same charger, would fit in the cradle. It cost about $30 bucks and once I get a new phone, it will be instantly obsolete.

There are plenty of universal car docks to choose from that would work with most any phone though. My father has a Sprint Evo 4g and I have a Droid X. When I went on vacation with my family in Florida last year, we used my DX in his car dock to navigate as his phone was having problems connecting. He also used that same car dock for his Samsung Moment before that....so there are options to save that $30 and make it go further, one just can't assume that the same manufacturer will work for every phone they produce
