I've been reading over the steps for froyo from 2.1 for months now. I still can't get up the nerve to do it. Mostly because nothing have been properly answered regarding my situation. I have an SD card which doesn't always work right and a buggy USB cord which sometimes disconnects while plugged into the PC.

I want to get to froyo, I've noticed a lot of my apps aren't working correctly and I assume it's from not getting the 2.2 update.

I run Velocity .4, 2.1-1, The kernel which doesn't allow overclocking, and I don't know if I ever did the new baseband or not in the velocity post. In the post for flashing 2.2 I saw the file at the bottom which is like a one click root, it says for anyone using 2.1 rom. Will it work in my situation? I need something that's quick and doesn't require me moving or using my phone while it's plugged into the USB.

Also since my SD card is all screwed up, will that affect the update at all? This is really getting on my nerves with this pile of crap phone. I can't even do a restore method to bring it to verizon and have it replaced since the USB doesn't work. Any Ideas? I would like to bring it to verizon and have it replaced but I don't know if they will do anything since it's rooted and I can't revert to stock.

Buy a new SD card or just sell your phone on ebay for $110-140 and get an HTC incredible for $300 on ebay.

Use the guide on getting to 2.2. It takes time but its not hard.

Well By having the issues that you do with the cable and SD card.... your kinda stuck.
Honestly I would go buy a new SD card and a new cable as they are both essential to doing anything remotely close to getting 2.2.1.

I know thats not what you wanted to hear but its just the facts bro.
Honestly you should be able to buy those things for relatively cheap.

The card shouldnt cost anymore than 10 dollars and the cord shouldnt be too much either.

Terribly Sorry.

Good Luck!!

Simple. before you start the flashing to v6 proccess (preferred you use the LGNPST guide. alot faster and safer and easier.) move the phone and cord where you wont touch it
and let it go. sdcard shouldnt affect it

You can try a different cable, but i'm assuming its the port in the phone. mine is the same way but my ally is my crack flashing device. as in it gets flashed over ~12 times a day when im testing things

True this could work. But risky. I would be nervous as a cat on the 4th of July.

I also have a loose USB cable, however, I bought one of those LG Ally docks off of Amazon for $5, and once its in there, it doesn't wiggle at all.
I suggest getting one of those and using it whenever plugged into your PC.

Ima get one if i can bring my ally back from the dead. its truly gone this time...i think...wont even power up

I had similar symptoms a few months ago...turned out to be a corrupt battery. What threw me off was that the phone would not power up with the battery removed and powered over USB...apparently it needs to have a (good) battery installed to even work over USB power.

Fortunately batteries are only ~$11 on Amazon now, so you might give that a shot (or borrow someone else's battery as a test).

Plug it in, don't touch the cord, and go for it. Live a little bit, sometimes the most exciting part of the day is finding out if you just bricked your phone or not lol. You don't seem too pleased with the Ally anyway so might as well risk it.

Wouldnt do anything?not even flash an LED light? or even come on with a charger plugged in and battery removed?

IIRC, with the battery out and USB cable plugged in, the LED flashed blue, but it would not power on.

And with the corrupt battery in, and USB cable plugged in, the LED flashed red but it would not power on.

What are your symptoms on the sd card OP? Mine would occasionally tell me the SD was unmounted, and then and SD apps wouldn't work, and I'd have to remove it and reinsert it to correct it. When I went from 2.1 to 2.2, I took the time inbetween to format the SD card in my PC before putting back in the phone (using a micro sd adapter). It has been perfect ever since.

My wifes got to where it would do absolutely nothing at all with the battery in or out or the usb plugged in (no LED, no boot, nothing). What fixed it was taking the battery out, plugging it in, putting the battery back in while it was plugged in. I have no idea what was wrong. I'm sure you've already tried dicking with it though. Just thought I'd mention it.
