Root SetCpu keeps locking up my EVO!

No matter what Rom or kernal I use, whenever I try to OC using SetCpu, when I set the max to the maximum setting my phone freezes and I have to do a battery pull. Does anyone else have this problem? Can somebody plsease help me?

You can't just overclock to the max and expect the phone to be stable. Some kernels set the allowed maximum up in the high 1200 range. Very few Evos can go that high. It will lock up and freeze on you. What you need to do is make sure you have the set at boot option disabled, then slowly move the slider up, one increment at a time. If it's stable, up it again. You're unlikely to get it much past 1190, but some people can. Once it locks up, you know you've gone higher than your phone can handle. Remember, it's important to read as much as you can before messing with things like setcpu :).

Gotcha, was not aware, I used to OC my hero all the time while using SetCpu, never realized my EVO would become unstable when trying to OC it.

Chances are that particular processor can be overclocked higher, or the kernel was not allowing to to overclock beyond what it could handle. You have to be careful when doing it on the evo :).

I stated that very reason why to be very careful using SetCPU in my Guide. ^_^

I have actually been able to go fully over-clocked with no hiccups or errors, YET lol.
I do of course not keep it Maxed out all the time. Don't want my poor little EVO to die on me!!

^ yup...some kernel rom combos I have been able to do the same.

1152 seems to be the sweet spot on the Evo with most rom/kernel combos

*cough* *cough* what kernal/rom comboes would those be...I'm using CM 6.1.2 right now with the kernal that comes with it
