Root Severe LauncherPro Lag with Gingerbread

WalmartSecurity

Android Enthusiast
So I'm taking Gingerbread for a test run, and one of the first issues I noticed was that LPP lags a ton with screen previews. With Liberty/Rubix/Fission, I had 5 homescreens filled with widgets, on "high memory usage" for the most responsive scrolling, and screen previews were pretty smooth and only hiccuped once in a while.

Now, if I have anywhere near 4 screens filled with widgets, the screen previews will lag. The animations are very choppy and very slow.

The only way to "fix" this is to change the memory usage settings to used "light" screen caches instead of normal or compressed. But this keeps the choppiness of the animation, but brings it up to speed.

Is anybody using LPP flawlessly on GB? I don't want to switch launchers.

Also, I just updated LPP today and it still didn't fix the lag.

Is that the rewrite? It just got updated to .84 or whatever today and it didn't fix anything, and this was the first update in months

i had the exact same issues while running LPP on GingerBlur last night...ran like butter for me EXCEPT for the screen previews...but admittedly it used to hiccup their on Froyo as well occasionally...

the next update for LPP is supposed to be specifically to increase Gingerbread performance

Alright glad to know I'm not the only one.

I guess I can get used to it for now...preferences/advanced settings/memory usage/

-check "use homescreen caches"
-put "cache type" to "light"
-go back to advanced settings and put "screen preview opening speed" to 10.

The animation becomes instant, and scrolling is only slightly less responsive.

What launcher are you using with GB?

no you're not the only one

currently im using the stock launcher...though as im sure you know its not as smooth as LPP for changing home screens...im trying to deal with it because i quite like the way it looks

i did install Go Ex, and ADW Ex for short periods of time and they both seemed to run quite well...while they were installed...but something kept drawing me back to stock, even though its not as smooth

I'm runnin LPP just fine with GB. No screen lag whatsoever. Not even with the screen previews. Not running todays updated LPP btw

How many screens/widgets on each screen do you have running?

I usually have 5 homescreens with 2-3 widgets on each screen
1: jorte/gtasks
2: launch-x, switchpro, android agenda
3. beautiful widgets, circle battery ind, switchpro, launch-x
4. pandora, cubed, audiomanager
5. tweetdeck, LPP twitter

and it lags. But if I get rid of 3-5 widgets it runs smoothly again

Thats weird. I have 5 screens set up. 4 in use.
Not many widgets though.
1. LPP facebook stretched to fit 5 rows and 4 columns
2. LPP calendar same stretched.
3. BW super clock home
4. Two countdown widgets, phandroid, audiomanager, android central, and pandora,
5. blank for now

I will throw some more stuff on there and will report back later if that had a negative effect on speed.

we have almost identical experiences my friend...the widgets are different, but the outcome is the same....i have not installed the new LPP update though...

i do wonder however if you could consolidate some of your widgets

Awesome hopefully I'll figure out a way for it to run smoothly.

And yeah lol I could probably consolidate my widgets a lot better but I like the setup. Agenda -> root -> homescreen -> music -> social.

You might be better off using a different Launcher, LPP has been outdated for a while now........that rewrite really needs to come out soon, that's why I no longer use it and instead use Go Launcher EX instead (even though I really like the built-in LPP widgets).

the widgets (particularly calendar) keep me using LPP and im interested a lot in the new Gmail widget that came out today...

though i do agree that Go and ADW are the better launchers for performance right now...

I totally agree! For me, Go launcher is the way to go. I have tried all the launchers and I always return to Go. I also miss some of the LPP widgets though.
And surprisingly, stock moto launcher has some nice features, it just isn't polished enough for me to stick with it.

The swipe features of Launcher Pro are what keep me going back to it! DO the others have the swipe abilities?

Help please!

Anyone here have a hard time after the first reboot with GB? I get a screen that says "Complete action using: Launcher Pro or Set-Up" I can't select either choice, but I can hit the checkbox that says "Use by default for this action". After a bit, I get a prompt saying "Sorry! Activity Android System (in process system) is not responding. FC or Wait. Neither does me any good.

Can't proceed from here but I can see the background is loaded with the notification bar up and receiving notifications.

Any ideas would be very welcome!

Do you mean first boot after GB install? If so, it sounds like you didn't wipe data before install. You should try and do a factory reset.

1.Turn off phone
Press and hold Power key + Home hard key to power on the phone and bring up a triangle with an exclamation point inside next to a green Android graphic.
Press Search hard key to show the Android recovery menu.
Tap to select "wipe data/factory reset" (you can also use Volume buttons to scroll up or down in this menu)
Press Menu hard key under "Ok" screen prompt (camera button can also be used to confirm selection)
Handset will ask you to "Confirm wipe of all user data"
Select "Yes -- delete all user data"
Press Menu hard key under "Ok" screen prompt to start wipeout of phone, handset will begin to format handset showing progress with multiple lines of ellipses (....) (camera button can also be used to confirm selection)
Handset may take from 5-20 minutes to format.
When format is complete, press Menu hard key under "Ok" screen (or use the camera button) when prompted to reboot (Reboot system now will be highlighted)
You will see either an open box and the green android graphic when handset is rebooting (or the red DROID eye graphic).
Handset will be cleared of previous personal data, and you will need to start over with initial set-up process.

(Stolen from somewhere) :D

Edit: This will NOT touch your sdcard. Just so you know! :)

only thing is that stock recovery doesn't use the same keys anymore (or at least in this build)...

im trying to remember...but i THINK once you get to the triangle with the exclamation point you now have to hit the power button (used to be search button) to get into the menu, and then you select with the power button as well (used to be camera button)

I believe you have to press both volume keys at the same time to bring up the recovery options. Then you scroll up and down with the volume keys and select with the power button.

that could be it!...:D

it took me a while to figure it out last night, and i think i got to the menu by accident and that is why i couldn't remember lol...

Gotta love the teamwork this place generates. Thanks guys!
