Hey guys,
Battery on my SGS2 is terrible.
Last about 9hr from full charge.
Android OS always showing 40 to 57% usage in battery.

Also i did install Task Manager, to see what is running in background. and it seems a lot app running in background. Even when i kill them, they just run again after couple of seconds.

Anybody knows fix.

I believe this is a known fault and will be fixed on android 2.3.4

Try turning off background data (unless you need your phone to constantly check for emails) - goto settings > accounts & sync and uncheck the box.

also try turning off mobile data, (unless you absolutely NEED 3G on all the time) long press the power button and hit the mobile data option, same to turn it back on again.

These should make your phone battery last much longer, also, turn your screen brightness down to about 20-35% ;)

I usually notice the Android OS creep up if it's left idol for a long time but never that high, theres no fix for this.

It's a general Android issue, other phones have reported this issue.

Love these kind of suggestions. What's the point of a smartphone with always on internet, instant email and a lovely bright SuperAMOLED+ screen when you have to (a) turn off the internet, (b) go back to checking email manually and (c) turn that lovely screen down so much that it looks like something from 2005.

I understand the suggestions, and not having a go, but I think we ought to be kicking up more of a fuss with the manufacturers, and NOT accepting that we should cripple our devices because they can't sort out software/hardware combos that actually work.

(On a side note - I am getting just about all day from my SGS2 and am happy with the battery life)

am i the only one getting my Android OS running 10-13%? lool. If u have task killer installed, using the function to kill apps every few hours is useful. i say set it to kill apps every 2-4 hours :D. nothing to frequent as it may mke ur battery worse.

:D

I had the same problem so i installed Juice Defender and CPU Master because i didn't want to switch off things - as brykins says i didn't buy this phone just to switch all of those features off. (Although i have frozen all Samsung apps but then i never used them anyway).

Those two apps have greatly increased my battery life and i haven't lost any functionality. I'm usually left with 60% battery now at bedtime - unless i've been going nuts with Angry Birds!

Hope it's fixed in the next Android :/

Seems to be strange.
I had HTC Desire HD with 2.3.3 and Android OS was using 9-12% battery.

On SGS2 seems to be when phone in sleep mode, ANDROID OS using 45-57% battery. When I use it, goes to 37%.

It sucks, it 2 hours battery went from 100% to 74% without any use.

Is it any other way to freeze apps without rooting?

I just need emails on all the time.

As was stated this is a known bug in 2.3.3, and fixed in 2.3.4. It ONLY affects dual core phones and that is why is was much less with your Desire HD.
Wait for Samsung to push the update.

nope, mine is currently reading 17% for Android OS
up time is reading 22:25:17
and my battery is at 66% :p

loving this phone so far. right now just trying to make sure it doesn't have a reboot problem like some have reported. i'm also wanting to see how long it will last with minimal usage.

oh yeah, unrooted. unlike my old Evo, this phone works perfect out of box. don't think i'll be rooting any time soon. just don't see a reason to right now.

edit: oh, and don't use a task killer guys. the one built in will do the job just fine.

I'll wait after 18 months (as google said the device will be supported the next 18 months) before rooting.

Is there a walk-through guide anywhere?

EDIT: Am I already rooted? My Kernal version is 2.6.35.7-I9100XWKE7-CL215725 root@DELL103 #2

What does the word "root" mean in there?

mine is same
i dont think is rooted.

I just debranded from 3G and unlocked it for free :p

i just did test, and yes when its in sleep mode, android os uses over 37%
but when i left it on 10 min screen time out, in last 5 min android os went down to 25%.

As I said, i did debrand it using Odin. Kies sees my phone and tells me that its up to date (gingerbread.xwke7 - baseband version I9100xxke4 - kernel as above) Will i get future updates like 2.3.4 or i have to flash with Odin again?

Maybe the "stats" is whats wrong?

Ive had over 2 days battery life... (without charge) though my Android OS is always at ABOVE 50% :o

yep after weeks of use and without restarting my phone, my Android OS is now... well jeez, now it's back down (27%) haha very strange.

but anyway i've def seen it in the 40+%. still getting 2+ days on a single charge, though.

Can I just ask.

The % is of battery usage, so if the screen is off then the display is not using power therefore less power used so the % used by android os will be more than if screen was on as more battery is used with screen on.

E.g if 100 units of power in each battery and on both occasions 25 units were used by android os.

On the first example if 25 units used by other things (including display) the total % battery used by android os is 50%.
Second example screen on more so 35 units used by other things (including display) then the total % battery used by android os is now 42% even though its used the same amount of battery.

Am I right in what I'm trying to say and do you understand or am I just talking rubbish?!?

I'd say yes and no. Even with heavy usage my Android OS is always the highest (or in rare occasions, 2nd behind the screen itself)

Though its well documented that there is an Android OS bug within 2.3.3 and until 2.3.4 comes out..... We'll have to put up with it.

can u share how u make ur phone last all day? im barely getting 12 hours after an overnight charge.. although like u said, im not really prepared to cut down on anything major.. the most i'd do is turn off live wallpapers..

Nope, no root. The "root@DELL103" bit is the user account that originally compiled the kernel (user "root" on system "DELL103").

Hi another in NC.

Anyway, I have a charger at work, since I use the mobile hotspot there for internet. But when I leave work at 04:30 PM I disable the sharing and such and remove the phone from the charger. At 09:00 that evening I looked at the battery and it was at 87%. That was with only a little use of the phone. I will say, playing music and just using the phone with the screen lit kills the battery fast. I've never really use a mobile battery booster, but thinking more and more about getting one.

My top 3 under battery usage are: Wi-Fi sharing @24%, Display @ 22% and Android OS @ 17%

Think about getting a spare battery and the USB dock instead ;)

My phone charges overnight, from about midnight through till 6am. That's when the alarm goes off and the phone is unplugged, so we start at 6am at 100%.

My average day has me out of the house from 8am till 3pm (I am a postman) and during that time I have WiFi off, Bluetooth off and GPS off. I have the screen set to 100% as I am outside in bright sunshine and due to not having an LED, I find myself turning the screen on every twenty minutes or so to see if I have anything new.

I have four email accounts set up as IDLE IMAP accounts in K-9 Mail so I get instant push notifications (I get about 40 - 50 emails per day), and I have TwiDroyd Pro checking Twitter for messages and replies every thirty minutes. I have turned off or disabled (have rooted and therefore can freeze apps) all Facebook stuff, weather apps, Samsung hubs, stock updates, etc.

So - I have a smart device that is connected all the time, and gives me instant email and regular Twitter updates. That's all I need when out and about.

By the time I get home I am at about 65-70% and then the WiFi goes on and the screen is down to 50% while indoors. I'll catch up on RSS feeds for half an hour or so, Twitter timelines, look at TV schedules. After work I normally jump in the bath for an hour and this is an hour of solid phone use!

Then it's normal stuff all eve - phone is in my pocket and vibrates for emails, etc. Probably use another two hours of screen time. By the time I go to bed and plug it in again, I am at between 10% and 25% of battery.

All in all, it works well for me.

Spare battery, maybe. USB dock, well that will do me no good at work, cell signal at my desk is crap. I leave the phone at a co-workers desk near a window all day. Use Kies air in the phone to manage text if I get any and to play music on phone at desk.
