Google and UPS are way over-capacity with shipping and can only move an estimated 10,000 units a day initially. They are organizing the shipment by doing it in batches. This is what that means for you.
- June 27th-29th pre-orders will get their Nexus 7 first. That means, and I was specifically told, either at the end of this week or most likely at the beginning of next week.
- June 30th-July 2nd pre-orders will get the Nexus 7 mid-week next week.
- Everything after that, the technician didn't really know, and didn't want to guess.
I apologize if this was less information than you were looking for, or you wanted specific dates. I do not work for Google. I just wanted to clear up all the misinformation which seems to be hitting the front page.
One last thing to keep in mind. This is Google's first time handling the distribution and sale of a Nexus device on such a large scale. Previously the phone carriers were involved, and only recently have they started selling the Galaxy Nexus themselves which does not even come close to comparing to the huge pre-order numbers for the Nexus 7. Not to mention Google has to ship it out to the retailers as well. They are not as experienced as Apple or Amazon with major product roll outs, at least not yet.
