Should I get the Huawei Ascend from metropcs?

We do have virgin mobile and boot mobile and all the others. Honestly, I can afford anything right now. But I didn't want to go through flashing a phone and it doesn't work properly. Plus he said don't do that he wouldn't do it either.
My orignal plan was to buy the HTC Evo, and have it flashed. But I want it fully flashed and work completly not just a little thing here and there. But he told me not to do that. Just buy a android phone from metropcs.
But I'm still deciding on what to do anyway. People are saying to get the optimus from metro, and It looks like a pretty good phone. But I'm not sure yet.
How do you find out if 4g is in my area yet?
I know metro has a android and 4g phone but It has a slide out keyboard and I don't want that. I just want all touchscreen.

You do realise that you don't have to use the slide out keyboard if you don't want to, right? You will still have an on screen keyboard also. The only bad thing about the slider is it makes the phone a little thicker and heavier than it would be otherwise.

and over time sliding up and down it might just slide all the way off, like my r450 phone did...

If you are going get the Ascend get The TapOut edition because it does come stock with 2.2. The logo on the back doesn't really stand out that much and you can change the wallpaper. I have both and I like that fact that the TapOut is black and it is a slightly better plastic for the case.

Did they ever find an easier way to remove the bloatware on the tapout? Also, she could just put a case on it if the tapout logo bothered her that bad.
 
The thing is, I would like to get the tapout edition and just get a case for it (since it has 2.2) But I'm afraid that if I change stuff on it, like the roms and stuff (i don't really know what the stuff means) I will mess it up.
I'm pretty good with computer stuff just not really good with android phone stuff.
I'm still thinking on buying this phone (tapout edition) because I like how the phone looks. But I have about two weeks to decide which to get anyway. I'm going to buy a new phone next weekend.
I've been looking at both, the lg optimus and the ascend, but still not sure which to buy just yet.

If Virgin Mobile is available in your area, get VM with the Optimus V. It's a far superior phone. The pricing plans on VM are a lot better and you get 3G. Plus, the cost of the phone isn't that much more.

Im gonna have to go with Isaac on this one (by the way, Isaac is our android god) Lol! But he is right you will probably want a carrier with 3g unless your always going to be someplace where there is wifi. May I also suggest you take a look at boost mobiles Samsung prevail. I just watched some youtube vids on it and it is pretty fast fresh out of the box. It only cost 179 with an 800 mhz processor which someone said they already oc'd to 1ghz (dont know if that is true). But the bottom line is to find a 3g carrier you will be much happier you did.:D
 
I did look at virgin mobile and boost mobile. They were pretty cheap too, which I liked. I was thinking on switching to one of those carriers, But i'm not sure yet.
 
Metro PCS has $50 per month on this Android plan for slow speeds of 5-6KBs. In my area (Longview, TX) The data will stop working after a few mins. and the overall speed of internet is Very Slow.

Virgin Mobile has $40 per month for 1200 min. and has speeds of 20-30KBs. Samsung Intercept runs a newer operating system and is much faster
 
Boost mobile has a shrinkage plan that starts at $50 a month and shrinks $5 a month everytime you pay ontime.This is an unlimited everything plan text, talk and data. Also it has exceptional 3g speeds and runs on Sprints nationwide network. I also believe boost service will get better as they are dropping the Iden network within the next year or 2 so that means more focus on the cdma network.

My honest opinion boost is the way to go. I have researched them all and I will be switching to boost the first week of June.

VM beats Metro hands down. other than that tho I dont know much about them except they have better phones n service than Metro.

Me I bit the bullet tho, could resist getting a Droid X for $.01 thru amazonwireless which service is thru Verizon. Yes the bill is gonna suck, but dayum the DX is a sweet phone :D

Since you are really good with computer stuff (these really are computers that happen to make phone calls too), you will be fine with changing roms if you want to. It's like changing from Windows Vista to Windows 7. It's just different terminology. Just remember these computers run on a Linux system and not Windows so there some differences, Linux is much better. I have a couple friends with the Optimistic and I like the Ascend better especially with CM6/7.

and one more thing to add...Contracts Sucks and contracts is a POS!!!! 2years, hahaha, i switch phones like switching ringtones...
 
Virgin and Boost are both owned by Sprint. If its a choice between those two, go by which one has the phone you like better. Virgin really only has the Optimus, the Samsung Intercept sucks. I haven't checked out what Boost has.

I'm surprised PG would buy a phone with a locked bootloader. Nice phone, though, my nephew has one.

Aint too bad, still ROMs out for it, tho none I found I like yet lol. The stock rom isnt too bad, well the 2.3.3 leak anyhow lol. They are still rootable, deodexable etc, just cant change out the bootloader tho 'yet'! So that means no CM7 for it, officially anyhow. Since I started helping isaac and pip out I been thinking about attempting porting CM7 to the DX.

You'd be a hero to many if you could make it happen. A lot of people have spent a lot of time trying to crack that thing. Best of luck! :)

oh if I try it it will be w/o the bootloader lol, I am no where near knowledgeable to attempt cracking it lol.

But a port of CM7 or even vanilla android may not be that hard. I have been compiling isaac's builds for a few weeks now. It may take me some time, but once I get the proprietary stuff needed it 'shouldnt' be too hard. But then again I'm prolly not even close to being the first to attempt it lol.

Boost has the new Samsung Galaxy Prevail. It is not a bad phone, out of the box it has an 800mhz processor. I haveheard people oc'ing it to 1ghz. I watched some youtube vids and it seemed pretty fast. Samsung didnt load alot of bloatware on the phone either. I am actually getting this phone in about 2 weeks its only $179. Also to my understanding boost is going to drop the iden network and focus more one their cdma networks. Anything has to be betterthan Metro!

I am still going to keep my ascend maybe give it to my wife. I just love this forum to much and the people in it are awesome so I have to keep the Ascend!!!

$.01 doesnt beat my find. I found a HTC EVO 4g in perfect shape in the lobby of the Hilton hotel in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. :cool:

Well, I'm still deciding whether to buy the ascend or the optimus. I like how the ascend looks more than the optimus though. So i'm thinking more for the ascend.
But I would like to do the custom roms, but I'm not sure if I'll be able to do it correctly. I'm just nervous that I'll mess it up!
If I did get custom roms for the ascend (not the tapout edition) would I have to download a special program to do this to the phone? What would I have to do?
Also, does anyone have the tapout edition? is it better than the orginal ascend? what about the tapout edition vs. the optimus? or are those basically the same?
 
Get the ASCEND.Rooting & installing a custom ROM is just as easy as downloading apps from the ANDROID MARKET.
