Should I worry about gnex not having gorilla glass ?

Hello,
I'm thinking about getting a gnex but the fact that it doesn't have gorilla glass makes me very hesitated.I saw this video Samsung Galaxy Nexus Drop Test - YouTube which shows that the screen easily shatters from a 4inch drop While on the other hand,the gorilla glass protected galaxy s2 didn't even get scratched iPhone 4S vs. Samsung Galaxy S II Drop Test - YouTube

I will use a case(but it doesn't cover the screen) and a light screen protector but I believe it would still be easy to crack the screen.:(

I mentioned that I will get a screen protector,unless a ''skin'' is something different like an actual cover but that would be useless since I will have to remove it when I use the phone when most drops happen.
 
If you have a tendency to drop your phones a lot then yeah get a case and screen protector. Or don't get it if you're really that worried about it. No one can really answer you're question because everyone uses their device in their own way. I don't care one bit about it not having gorilla glass but that is just me.
 
I knocked my phone off the bathroom counter onto the tile floor tonight, all I have is a zagg screen protector... Battery cover popped off, but otherwise no damage... Phew.

I don't drop it that much,maybe around 4 times a year lol but yea even 1 drop can crack the screen depending on my luck.Anyways,I think gnex is my only option now.I need updates since I like to keep my phone for a long time(like around 3 years maybe).I will get a case and a screen protector even if it actually had gorilla glass lol.

A skin is just a plastic film that fits over the phone. Bestskinsever.com

Yea that's what I meant by ''screen protector'' I don't think it would be enough to protect the screen from breaking tho but it can be useful to prevent minor/average damages.
 
I've owned the VZW Gnex and honestly it does scratch very easily.

However months later I am going back to stock Android and waiting for my unlocked Gnex to arrive from the playstore.

What I recommend is a really good TPU case and a decent screen protector.

My Diztronic TPU case, which comes with a screen protector is on its way.
 
I have 1 scratch on my gnex screen that I cannot explain, I have dropped this thing several times, and from good distances, all that has happened was the battery door popped off as well as the battery. Otherwise I still use it, and I do not have any issues with it at all when it comes to sturdiness
 
For impact resistance static cling protectors really don't help you much, you'll have much better luck with a wet install film instead for offering you some increased protection against shattering.
 
Thanks everyone,I guess with a case and a wet install protector I will be just fine.I will also try to hold it tight just to be on the safe side.
 
I'm kind of disappointed that we didn't get Gorilla Glass on the GNex. It's friggin fantastic stuff. My Cowon S9 has it, and one time in my haste I accidentally stuffed it in my back pocket and then proceeded to sit on it. The (sort of funny but not really) funny result was that in sitting on it I had managed to crack the AMOLED display clean in half (only the top 1/2 lit up), yet the glass didn't have a scratch on it. Still registered all the touch inputs too. It's tough stuff. If you want to watch something that might make you cringe, try this (skip to 1:30 for the action):

Yes, it doesn't have the "Gorilla Glass" brand name but they are using fortified glass from another company. "Kleenex" isn't the only tissue, "Xerox" doesn't make the only copiers. ;)

We were pretty confident that Samsung has done its homework to protect the screen on the Galaxy Nexus, but when Corning said there is no Gorilla Glass on the handset, rather another type of "fortified glass", there was a lot of backlash on the Internets with people getting disappointed.

As if to prove that Gorilla Glass is just the most popular household name when it comes to toughened glass, which makes Corning, its maker, a marketing genius, the screen on the Galaxy Nexus was tested by trying to scratch with keys by someone the minute after they got it, demonstrating that the other tough glass makers are good too.

The result is pretty (in)visible in video, so we can now sleep tight again, knowing that it will be safe to drop the 4.65" HD display on the Samsung Galaxy Nexus in the same pocket with your car keys.

if you are that worried, get a case and protector.

i have had my phone for 7 months now, and i dont have a single scratch on the screen. however i have only dropped my phone 2 times...both from about 3.5-4 feet. nothing.
it is all the luck of the way it falls.

if you are careful, everday use should not effect the screen in any way....i keep my phone in its own pocket, or on a desk/table and after 7 months it is still perfect.

2. even gorilla glass can scratch and break (my OG Droid scratched 2-3 times just from being in my pocket - sand probably)
3. People will swear by one or the other, but individual stories are meaningless. You could drop a GG phone and break it the first time or you could have 20 non GG phones and never have a scratch.

If you are worried get a case and screen protector.

For the record, my wife knocked mine off the armrest of a chair onto a concrete pool deck....landed right on the corner. There's a little nick in the plastic but no other damage.

I agree with you,it all depends on how the phone falls and the surface that it falls on.I think it's not that easy to drop the gnex while its faced down at 0 degree,why would anyone hold his phone this way anyways ? lol
 
I absolutely hate screen protectors.

However...I'm putting one on my Gnex as soon as it arrives.

Just a little side note. I've had my GS3 for 2 weeks now and have already noticed a few hairline scratches on the screen. And I'm ultra careful. Point being- Corning is not all its cracked up to be.
 
just remember, there is no such thing as scratch proof screens, only less resistant, and sometimes things happen, no need to get upset about it, these screens have come a long way since their predecessor's, scratches on screens were happening all the time, nowadays, scratches happen, just not as much. we should all feel happy, screen protectors can help in ways. just make sure you keep an eye on your device and you will be fine.
 
Gorilla glass is extremely sensitive to fine particles like sand. You have a $500-600 piece of tech in your hands, protect it
