Sideloading coming to the Inspire :-)

I called and spoke to at least six people on sunday. Hung up twice cause I was frustrated and called back and tried for someone else.. On the phone for almost two hours till I got someone in tech support (that was a pain, they don't want to send you there right off the bat of course. I had to say my phone was messed up and wouldn't turn on.) In tech support two people didn't know what I wanted to do (One even said it was impossible!) One lady said I'd have to do a Master Reset on my device to clear all the memory and then it should (should!) be there. I asked to have the call escalated, spoke to a manager of the tech support and she had never done it and didn't have proper credentials for the tool that pushes the update. Said she would contact HTC (After suggesting I do the same, cause it must their problem, surely...) And said she would contact me on Tuesday (yesterday) Haven't heard back from ATT yet....


I want to root my phone, not for this. This isn't an issue at all. Looking at Cyanogenmod 7 is making me antsy though I'm on a work computer and don't have one at home... Wondering how the boss will take to me doing this not work related stuff.... Though he just got an Atrix and is interested in rooting....may make my device our test subject so he can see how it goes...

You should just chat with AT&T Tech support I did got the update 5 minutes into the chat

Dorcas Lynn: To complete the update; Click the Download button displayed on the Firmware sub-tab. Result: XDM responds with a pop-up message which reads, Are you sure you want to install firmware version [xxxxx]?.

Dorcas Lynn: Click OK. Result: XDM responds with a message, which reads, Sent Install command successfully. Then you will simply follow the on-screen instructions presented on your device to complete the installation process.

When they sent my update I did not receive any text just went and looked under the application section and the unknown sources was there, there was no URL or anything.

Thats what I told her people on the forums were saying! Not sure what she has pushed to my phone as I have not gotten the text message yet with the URL. Maybe its gingerbread?????? LOL! Her last text even says it allows the download of Amazon app.


i just got a pop up on my phone that said "complete update" Yes or No. I clicked yes but it didn't appear to do anything. not sure what that was!!!!

i didn't get a text message either when i got mine....it's suppose to be an OTA silent update once it's pushed to your device...u have to wait up to 48 hours prior to when they(tech support) push the update(so yes wait til after the 48 hours past then go into Settings--->Applications and from there u will see "unknown sources" with a box to check off to enable it

ps...ignore checking "AT&T Software Update" on the daily basis because it will not show up in there. also when u chat or talk to the tech...mention u would like the "over the air update to enable sideloading for 3rd party apps pushed to your phone"

I talked them again last night and they said they know what I am talking about and she pushed it out to the phone. Of course she said it could be up to 72 hours before I see it. I just can't believe it takes up to 72 hours to get to the phone! If its something you want to spend money on they can activate stuff right away!!!!!

wow maybe it has something to do with where u are located because i got mine 48 hours after they pushed it to my phone...but then again look on the bright side at least u know it's coming..:cool:

I tried telling her it was not a HTC thing and not to transfer me but she still did. Of course HTC rep knows nothing about it and says I just need to wait then!!!!!! this is really getting frustrating!!!!!!

We are both in the same boat. I've been on the phone and chat with AT&T since Tuesday night. Still nothing. I just got off the phone and the rep told me it was still pending. He said to give it until tomorrow.

BTW, I'm calling directly into tech support 866-700-2105.
 
I just finished the online chat with AT&T support. I gave them my name, phone number, android version, and IMEI number. They said it would take 24-48 hours to be pushed to my device. The whole chat took about 20 minutes.

I will update this post when I get the actual update.

thats what I have went through since last Friday. They say they pushed it to the phone but I never get anything. the last guy was able to push a restart to my phone to test it and that worked. I think they keep pushing the 1.84.11 update which I have already. I am starting to think that most of them have no clue what we are asking for. I bet there is like one or two people that have this phone and know exactly what were asking for!!!!
 
I just spoke with someone named Chris, while he took a while, I was able to get the update in about 15 mins. If anyone is having a problem with att reps now knowing what you are talking about, make sure you mention the amazon app store. Chris didn't know what I was talking about until I mentioned that.
 
Ha so I called for a friend of mine, who gets aggravated easily on the phone, the rep asked what software version was on the phone so I said 1.84.502.11. Her response was oh well there is your problem you need 2.2 on the phone to get this update. So I said it has android version 2.2.1 you asked me for the software version on the phone. She said yeah they should both be 2.2 so I will need to do that update before I can get the unknown sources update.

I said thank you and hung up.
 
Smh@ the techs knowledge of this specific update... One thing i can agree on is that most of us didnt get it right away.. I, myself as well as others went thru a hassle as well lol...all i can say is keep bugging them with patience til the "unknown sources” magically appears on your phone... I am feeling everyone's pain because i was once in the same boat!
 
OMG!!!! OMG!!!!!! I've been trying to get this for WEEKS!!!!! I've literally spent HOURS on the phone and NOTHING!!!! Well, finally I got tired of waiting, so I traded in my phone at the store. (I had it for 28 days.) When I traded it in....NOTHING!!! I was furious!! I called ATT and they knew nothing again. So, I waited until today to get with them on online chat. The man said it went through and to give it 15 minutes. Well, 30 minutes later I checked and I HAVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG!!! I just don't know what to do with myself right now!!!!! :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D All of a sudden all of that frustration was worth it! :p

No I didn't...if you exchange it within 30 days, you won't be charged. But, if you go in there and tell them that something's wrong with it, they may extend it longer.

I don't know if it had anything to do with it or not, but when I first bought my phone, I bought it over the phone and they shipped it to me. I think that had something to do with it because my IMEI was not in the system, but as soon as I changed my phone (thus changing my IMEI) it worked.
 
After all I did to get the update I had given up. I was planning on rooting my phone or waiting until Gingerbread was released. So today one of my coworkers says "you have to try this app on Amazon" so I went in and checked my settings and there it was!!!!!!!! It pushed in the last couple of days but I think it was this morning because I think I looked yesterday but I am not sure.
