Sideloading coming to the Inspire :-)

Yeah i contacted ATT as well and they immediately directed me to contact HTC instead....stating they do not have anything to do with the OTA update....which i find very hard to believe....i understand they had to agree and get the OK with HTC...but why would HTC be physically the ones pushing the OTA update if ATT is my carrier. :confused:

Aww. That's not true. I managed to get transferred to att tech support, and the knowledgeable tech support guy pushed the update through for me. Still took a whole nother day though.
 
I now have the "unknown sources" checked thru ATT....i guess u gotta go thru punches to run into the RIGHT ppl...lol...everything is GOOD!!
 
You can still remain clean if you use the temporary root method from the other thread I linked above.

You root the Inspire, enable sideloading, then reboot which removed the root but keeps the sideloading. It really is wonderful and you can't even tell that any rooting has been done (well, other than having sideloading enabled without the update, but who's nitpicking ;)).

thanks i will definitely keep this "rooting" business in mind for later...i'm just gonna enjoy being a "virgin" in the rooting and Jailbreaking world lol:D
 
for those new to this, checking "software update" wont do anything, its an automatic push and there is NO deadline. they could care less who gets it and who doesnt unless you call or chat online to tech support

i talked to the online chat tech support people and they said theyd push it to me within 72hrs. we'll see ...
 
Thanks for that post erwaso.I used the online chat and the operator said that she would add my name to the list and that it has been taking up to 48 hours.
 
Did an online chat and the guy told me I had to call for the update to be pushed to my phone. I called and nobody knew what I was talking about. It finally took some explaining and the guy searching to find what it was. He said he pushed it to my phone and was going to call back tomorrow to see if I got it.
 
@Erwaso...that is true...it took me more than 5 tech support guys to finally get mine...but it was more so less than 48 hours after they finally pushed it to my device.

i was in the same boat as u...i kept running into either inexperience techs or the ones that didn't have the authority to push it...so basically at some point they might have stopped pushing the update to everybody's phone. But once u contact chat support they are back on their jobs...hope u get it soon as well as everyone else who didn't get it yet.
 
After LITERALLY 2.5 hours on the phone with literally 6 different AT&T people....only 2 of which knew ANYTHING about the update....anyway, I FINALLY got an answer from someone that wasn't even in the correct department. He stayed on the phone with me and made the people pushing the update answer questions and told me what they were saying even thought he wasn't supposed to be telling me some of the stuff. lol I like him and I'm going to write him a glowing letter of appreciation and send it to the higher ups! He went above and beyond in talking to me.

Anyway, the thing is that they have not input all of the phone numbers into the database for the update. Mine was not in there, but they "said" they were going to add it and it might take up to 5 days from last night for me to get the update.

They think they've reached everyone, but they are not searching out people that may not have received it....so you pretty much HAVE to call and tell them that you don't have it yet.

If you have not received it, ask them about your number being in the database. I don't know the name of the database, sorry.

He said that if I have to call back, ask for the 2nd level....whatever that means....but to ask for the second level and ask if my number had been added to the database for the sideloading update.

He also said that so many people at AT&T don't know about the update because they are not authorized to push it. Only those authorized to "push" the update know about it. So, the trick is to find one of those people. I guess it's just a game of chance.

I hope this helps some people like me because I tried the other "temp root" solution on here and it didn't work for me, so I'm still stuck without anything but the one sideloading machine thingy.

Anyway, I hope this fixes some people!

I called yesterday and spoke to a woman that had no idea. I wasnt prepared to wait around all day for her to figure out what I was talking about so I just hung up, had stuff to do. Im just going to ask for 2nd level tech support now. I have the update on my phone but my gf does not.
 
One option I havent seen posted here that is easy is instead of calling ATT, talk to them over their online tech support on the ATT wireless website. Took me about 5min to get an available chat agent and he instantly pushed me the update. He said I would have to wait 24-48hrs for it to go through but that is the same amount of time for the other means anyways.

This sounds promising. What is the proper way to word the request so the chat agent will understand?
 
well honestly whether it's by chat or phone...it's a fact that not all of the techs had knowledge of this specific update...as well as having the authority to push it OTA....hopefully by now they got the heads up...:cool:
 
i checked my wife's phone we got sidebar! though she doesnt download hardly anything what fun is that Give apps give me apps [maniacal laughter]
she got a great phone but not utilizing it andafter my little fiasco with her phone she wont let me touch it any more WAH!!!
 
lol june 3rd... still no update!

@ninja_reject... I may do what you did and call in there. because its taking way too long. almost half a month and still not update for my phone
 
I called 611 today, and within 30 minutes, I was using swype. They will have to go to techsupport, but stay on the phone if you can, or give them a number to call you back on while they look into the third party app update. It should not take weeks for this.
 
Just got done doing the on line chat. Lady knew what I was talking about, asked for the last 4 of my SS# and my IMEI and said I'll get an update in 24-48 hours. Will report back if that is indeed so. I'm probably just going to root and put on GingerBeast anyway, but I'll see if they come through.
 
Since getting the update without rooting has anyone got Applanet to work? I installed it keeps having connection errors.
