any way to fix the signal bars on this rom or any gb rom for that matter cause on my stock rom i have 4-5 signal bars that shows but on this one and any custom roms thats not sense i only get 1-2 bars, now when i had my hero and i flashed any aosp rom i had that problem but then i found darchs visual fix and used that to fix the signal bars but when i tried to do the same method on my evo it just freezes my phone any help would be great.

Well custom roms shows signal with more accuracy basically, it has more available bars, like the diff between celsius and fahrenheit...on a custom rom itll show say 3 out of 6, on stock that would be 3 out of 5. Your signal likely has had no change. Having said that you can edit the signal bar .png files located in system framework to show more or less bars...

thanks for the reply so quick but im a nooobe and i have no idea how to to do any of that is there a step by step

It really doesn't have much to do with custom vs. stock ROMs. It's more about AOSP vs Sense. The two calculate the signal differently (in terms of what to report). AOSP, in general, is probably more accurate. Editing pngs is possible, but you can't just add more pngs (more signal bars = more pngs) and expect the system to know how or when to use them. As far as I'm concerned, the way AOSP does it is fine. I'd rather not have my phone lie to me about how much signal I have, anyway :).

I said custom because he was talking gb also some sense roms appear to have been modified. I'm on kings r4 sense and it had 6 bars. I'm not sure what he altered yet to do that I haven't ripped it open. The calculation likely isn't different just the modified .png files I'm guessing...?

Well, you can definitely modify the pngs. In fact, you can have a Sense ROM with the four AOSP bars if you want, but you'd have to still have the same number of pngs that a Sense ROM expects. You'd just have to tell it what to show for each signal level. That doesn't mean much, really. If you flash any AOSP ROM then any Sense ROM, it'll look like the Sense ROM has better signal. It doesn't really mean that it does. The thing is, if you took Sense-like signal pngs and put them in an AOSP ROM, you'd have too many, and even if you mapped them in a certain way, it'd probably still look like fewer bars.

Think I get it ( could be wrong ). What you're saying is that an AOSP rom has say 5 pngs (no bars, one bar ... four bars). And this matches with signal ( 0% = NoBars.png, .... 76-100% = FourBars.png ). While Sense is breaking it up say 7 or 8 png files (so the brake down of signal isn't the same levels). IE Sense three bars png might mean signal of 45-60 %

I think that's what you're getting at? It's all very interesting.

Sort of. Now that I'm looking at it, I suppose you can have the same number of signal bars in either. I think I'm just confusing everyone, myself included, so maybe I should just stop while I'm ahead. It was a long day. I will say, though, that if my understanding is correct AOSP calculates the signal to report differently than Sense, making it look like a lower signal from the icons. From what I understand it's more accurate. I need to take some time and look into it more. I know I've read about it in the past, but I can't remember where. I'll look into it more later, and see if I can make it a little more clear.

Okay, let's see if this clears it up a little bit. In Sense, you have a certain number of signal bars, usually more than four. You *can* just edit the pngs to have fewer (four for example), but the system still has to be configured to use only that number. That being said, the signal you see in a Sense ROM includes only what you need for voice (1x). I'm sure you've heard before that Sense ROMs don't tell you if you're actually connected to 3g or not. Basically, they show a 3g icon all the time if you're connected, whether it's actually 3g or not. This is not factored into the signal. On an AOSP ROM, the signal you see factors in 3g, which will always make it look lower, when in reality, it's just more accurate of your real connection. Once you lose 3g, your signal will look way lower than on a Sense ROM, and it will actually tell you that you're no longer on 3g. This is what I was referring to, mainly, and doesn't really make the number of signal bars much of an issue.

Hmmm... I think I get it now. I get it enough for now. lol
sounds like AOSP factors in type of signal while sense is only voice.

You know, I actually do remember reading that somewhere. Like the signal bars are not representative of 3g signal, only the 3g icon determines if you have 3g, or something like that.

Think I get it now. Thanks.

ok i get that but is there a visual fix for that like there was for the hero?

Lol, that's exactly what I meant :p. Changing the way it calculates would be pointless (if not difficult). Just get used to the way it works in AOSP. It's more accurate, anyway.

But he doesn't like that he only shows 2 bars apparently likes the look better when he has 3 or 4...? :)

lol, well smack me and call me betty but i like the way sense lies to me , so is there a step by step on how to change the pngs? like i said before im a noob to this here

Grab 7zip itll make life easy. Copy your framework-res.apk from system/framework to your laptop, open up with 7zip, navigate to res/drawable-hdpi and find the pngs for signal and edit them with something like paint.net, place them back in drawable then navigate up a couple folders it will ask you to update the archive say yes, then push the file back to where you got it and update the permissions to match everything else in there and reboot. Make a back up first please. Dont want you blaming me for having to restore to a 6 month old backup because something went wrong. Honestly I usually just update the pngs in the rom zip resign and reflash but it should work both ways...flashing would remove any mods you have made but I keep a running mod zip so that doesn't happen...you could always make your new framework into a flashable zip if you know how which I assume you dont but this is getting long and above the scope of most casual users.

If any one sees an error please correct. I'm a tinkerer and dont usually write down what I do lol.

Oh another way is to take another theme.zip and edit it to your liking and flash, this may be easier for most.

ok first of all you would be right to assume that i dont , second -you lost me at grab 7zip, i just learned how to root and flash the evo and im not really computer savvy
