What do think the likelihood is of Verizon acknowledging they broke something, and better yet, what's the likelihood of them fixing it?
Why don't you consider rooting your phone? If I could do it, you could. It was fun! You could then flash the old radio or flash the stock ROM?Seems too many hoops to bother with it. If the S4 32gb does not pan out in a few weeks, I may reconsider. That, or maybe a fix will be released.... Perhaps neither is likely to happen.
Hmmm..., my non-update phone came with the Global network mode enabled and it works fine, though I did just change it the other day to LTE/CDMA. Same performance on Speed Test, anyway. To fix the 3g/4g problem for to settings/more settings/mobile networks/network mode and select LTE/CDMA. The update set the network mode to global which is causing the 3G/4G issues. Also disabled the Caller Name ID app. Download and upload speeds have been cut in half like others on here and the battery drains quicker. Lets hope Verizon fixes these issues soon or i'll hold my breath till I join the BlueMan Group
It's the new radios that are causing the issues. The only fix I've found for this (or at least until something changes with LTE) is to use the app Phone Info, going into Device Information and changing the drop down box from LTE/CDMA/EvDo to CDMA auto (PRL). Turns off 4G but that wasn't working for me AT ALL. 3G is slow, but it at least works until there is a new update or until someone finds a fix.
OK, from the looks of it, the issue lies with the new VRBMB3 radios in the latest Verizon update, what I did was install the last VRBMB1 radios with the latest update, my initial impressions are that LTE is smoother and faster, in regards to the battery drain issue, will have to get back with that tomorrow, with a more concrete analysis.
This update is butt. Verizon hate me/us.
You can only switch "flash different radios" if you are rooted, the new radios are VRBMB3, the previous Radios where VRBMB1, the new radios have been causing issues for many people, including the ROM "Developer" community, after a few trials, it was figures out in the Developer community that the new VRBMB3 radios where the culprit, many who have gone back to the older VRBMB1 radios have no more of the issues mentioned in many of the threads, from bad signal, to dropouts, to crazy battery drain. How do you determine which radios are being used, and then install different ones, if desired?
I am running the new Verizon update with the older radios, and everything went back to normal. Time to root and set yourself free, it's not hard to do.I see no improvement changing from global. The same data dead spots that started after the update still exist. The odd thing is the 4g bars still show two in the dead spots, but the dBm is weaker. I know bars are not as significant as dBm, but they did correlate to some degree. Calls still work at least.
3G more common to stay locked in, regardless if good 4G. This happened before the update, but more common now and this is with the Trojan horse known as Call ID disabled.
This update is butt. Verizon hate me/us.
Sorry if this was already covered, but anyone else notice Talkback (little hand in notification window) activating every time you reboot? Talk about a PITA trying to navigate through menus with it turned on...
I tried to disable it from the Manage Apps screen as well as the Caller ID app, but it still show the hand at start up. Any fixes for this other than rooting?
EDIT: So it is disabled, but the stupid hand icon is still there and no way to get rid of it!
