Verizon to release Major update for S3

I've jumped through Verizon's hoops. Replaced SIM card... factory reset. No difference, signal is still crap.

However, changing from GSM to LTE/CDMA whatever, seems to have improved signal!

Crap radio firmware in, crap radio out ;) .... :(

Winning!

It's really great that everyone is helping each other with this update, but where's Verizon through all of this. They send out an update that ruins peoples phones and then acts like nothing happened, again.?

They blamed Samsung, even though they would have got Verizon's approval to make it and Verizon to QA before release.

My guess is they are mutual offenders. Samsung genuinely thinks all customers will love all their bloat and fluff on the S4 and Verizon is pushing bloat to generate more revenue.

Verizon makes more money and Samsung pimps S4 features. The reality is this update has been a customer service and tech cost nightmare for them. Making decisions in bubbles tends to have these results. A joint venture Trojan horse that kicks the air out of them.

Let me add to this in the correct order I called the companies. Verizon blames Samsung and Samsung blames Google. All three were a waste of a call and three hours of my life I can't get back. Phone is still a piece of sheet. Thanks big three, way to ruin what was once a great phone.

They have to find some way to pick up S4 sales ;) Too many holding on to their S3s. Especially 32gb owners.

Actually, Verizon loves us staying with current phones, so they are probably looking for someone to blame. This is costing them money.

You can only switch "flash different radios" if you are rooted, the new radios are VRBMB3, the previous Radios where VRBMB1, the new radios have been causing issues for many people, including the ROM "Developer" community, after a few trials, it was figures out in the Developer community that the new VRBMB3 radios where the culprit, many who have gone back to the older VRBMB1 radios have no more of the issues mentioned in many of the threads, from bad signal, to dropouts, to crazy battery drain.

I got tired of waiting for the fix. At my house on the weekend i was fine because my area signal strength is higher than my office. But when I got to work today and my data was gone, and I dropped calls and texts were not going through, that was enough. I finally had enough reason to root, and switched the radios. My phone was running warm right after but since seems to have calmed down. Have not dropped data or lte (for that matter) yet with 1-2 bars. I will probably accept an update if released since this was all i needed root for so far.

I've had it. I was going to just sit and be patient and wait on Verizon or Samsung or whoever it is to issue the fix but this stupid phone has had no service at all this afternoon and no text messages are going out or coming in. Rebooting does nothing, pulling the battery does nothing. I'm calling and demanding a replacement.

Either that or go buy that Razr Maxx HD I almost bought when I got this thing.

Have any non-samsung devices been pushed the crappy Verizon radioware?

That's right! You may not be able to escape the 3 headed monster of the manufacturer, the carrier and Google all vying for control of your phone and the revenue possibilities there in, by fleeing from one manufacturer to another.

I say it was a problem with samsung that wasnt found fast enough by the virizon techs so they just pushed it out eitherway.
Either that or samsung sent out a perfectly fine radio and verison messed around with it and failed.
At the end of the day though, if the device is faulty.. the buck ends with samsung and they have to give you a fully functioning phone

Just received my replacement phone today. It still has MB1, and I most definitely will not be checking for an update, lol!

Glad to hear this. I was holding out until I heard more info on whether Sammy was pulling the update and if anyone had received a replacement if it had the newest update before I asked for a replacement myself. Since there are rumors that they did indeed pull it and you(ninja) did in fact receive your replacement without the update, I went ahead am now getting a replacement myself. I'm optimistic that I'll be getting my old radios back. fingers crossed and will let everyone know the results.

I went ahead and downloaded the 770.7mb stock mb1 firmware file and Odin. The instructions are straight forward and took ten minutes to download/flash and then the usual app update grey screen. I have 400 apps, so took a little while.

I was tired of the issues with the update and wanted the device good again. Back to good :)

No more accepting updates for me.

I did the same, back in business, performance was pathetic. Lesson learned, I will never, ever upgrade until it has been demonstrated that the upgrade is safe

Wonder how many people have caught the bug now and see how easy it is to flash root and custom recovery (exactly the same method as flashing stock firmware) ;)

Can someone who has accepted the update post a screen shot of the about phone page. I got the update when it first came out. I read about how bad it was on here and declined it. Every once in a while I would check the status to make sure it hadn't downloaded automatically. Yesterday when I checked the update was gone and it says "no new software available". Just wanted to make sure it didn't sneak on to my phone.
