Siyah kernel - Dummies Guide

Not for me this time butty.
4.1.4 seems very good. Stable and smooth, and only lost 0.25% per hour overnight last night with everything (including BT) on

I meant that I seem to remember downloading and installing a new Siyah kernel at roughly the same time... 24 hours earlier. Not even I could make a call on a kernel in the half hour between our posts!

4.1.4 is looking good so far. :)

That's not what I've heard, as I've been told you are usually extremely premature butty!
:D

Almost 2 days now with Siyah 4.1.4 and for me it is the antithesis of Siyah 4.1.3.

So battery friendly that I had to re-calibrate my battery just to be sure that I was not getting a mis-reading.

With minimal use of ExTweaks on Battery profile this release is very slick and smooth.

Since it is the developer's, gokhanmoral, wife that has the SGSII and whom he is trying to please... I can predict a happy and fruitful weekend ahead for him! ;)

Better than last weekend that's for sure!
:D

Agree with you butty. I find 4.1.4 the best yet both in terms of smoothness and battery.

Yipee. KOD strikes again. Getting random program freezes on 4.1.4. Tried twice for a couple days, happened each time. Back to 4.1.1 for me........

Business as usual......

To all other posters!

This may sound serious that Syd is experiencing programme freezes on Siyah 4.1.4.... DON'T PANIC! :ahhhhh:

Historically speaking, this is good news as it means that the chances are that Siyah 4.1.4 will work for 99% of us.

For some strange and, as yet, unexplained reason... Syd is the Kiss Of Death, (KOD), to some kernels that work flawlessly for everyone else.

When Syd has a KOD on a kernel, that's my all-systems-go-to-flash cue, and true to form, 4.1.4 is the best ever so far for me.

Thanks Syd. Keep up the good work mate, and when you eventually upgrade your handset, please donate it to science, or to the ghost of Arthur C. Clarke.
:thumb:

Are you sure you didnt by a Samsung Parallel Universe SII?
:hmmmm2:

fancy a swap???

Mmmm I've Been Holding Off With Changing From 4.1.1..... Might Just Do It Now Thanks To Sid. LoL

It Is Also Dual Boot Isn't It?

Good day to everyone! :) I've just registered and I've been "semi" lurking this thread ocassionally. I have installed the Latest version(4.1.4) of Siyah along with the latest NeatRom Lite from XDA on my GT I9100. It seems that my battery isn't quite performing well for me as I have expected it to be. I had already set my extweaks profile to battery and set the governor to pegasusq. Is there something I should do?

If its of any help at all, I came from neatrom lite 3.2 and upgraded it to 3.3 without doing any wipe.

Hello and welcome to Android Forums, All Things Root, a.k.a. The Asylum, paw2x! :)

You seem to have done the right things with Siyah and NEAT. However, these two only play a part in a much larger, overall, picture when it comes to battery saving.

Part of that picture is monitoring your battery and freezing bloatware, if any. See here for hints and tips on this.

Thanks for the warm welcome, Iron! :) I thought I wasn't on the right track. I guess I need to freeze the bloatwares. That you for the inputs. This thread has been a good help.

SiyahKernel S2-v4.1.5 is now up.

update 4.1.4 -> 4.1.5: fixed /mnt/ntfs directory creation problem (ntfs mounting over usb otg should be working now). lulzactiveq (and one of my mistake in lulzactive) fixes by robertobsc@XDA. enabled NFS module (if you don’t know what it is then you don’t need it).

I'm afraid I've reverted back to Siyah 4.1.4 from 4.1.5 as I found that the former was a lot better on battery and Deep Sleep. In fact, for me, quite noticeably so! :(

I too find my battery being slurped by 4.1.5. I forgot my van charger today and I'm watching it lose about 1% every five minutes on a decent signal, Web browsing with brightness on full. Currently down to 22%.

i'm lovin 4.1.5. Have finally achieved the holy grail of 0.5%/hour battery drain. never ever had this before.

his mrs must be happy with it too, cos not been much siyah gs2 action recently.

Ever was it thus Syd!

The infamous Syd K.O.D. (Kiss Of Death) strikes again! :vamp:

I thought I would give Siyah 4.1.5 another go the other day... just in case. Same result for me I'm afraid. Using the identical ExTweaks as 4.1.4, it drained my battery a lot quicker. Less Deep Sleep for me as well.

Same here.

I'm with you lads... back to Siyah 4.1.4 once again. :thumb:

Might be worth mentioning that whilst the Siyah kernel, in conjunction with ExTweaks, works well with BLN, (Back Light Notification), for texts, emails, Whatsapp, etc; it does not show for missed calls.

One small, free, app from the Play Store rectifies this and is called, cunningly enough, Missed Call. I'm sure there are others.

If you do not know about BLN, see this short video...
