Siyah kernel - Dummies Guide

Don't know if its a result of neat LSD or latest Siyah, bit I just had a hot boot on me! (restart before the piss takes start ;-) )

:-(just had a complete restart followed by a boot loop on the siyah logo, have reverted back to lsj as I was considering it anyway, will try siyah again tomorrow with it :-)

Had an error come up when trying to flash with lsj :-( think I'll have to stick with the first beta! Either that or I'll try again with mobile Odin instead of the zip if anyone else has used it successfully with lsj!

Can anyone else tell I'm bored sitting up at stupid o'clock with the wee man that has his body clock all wrong?

I think you're suffering from, "New Father Syndrome", sntaylor

if anyone else has used it successfully with lsj!

Extract from post #617...

No problems installing Siyah 6.0beta5 to NEAT ROM Full LSJ after a GS2KernelWipe.

;)

Errr... yes! Top Tip: Pour yourself a large glass of cognac and take a big swig... now, breathe the fumes all over sntaylor jnr. Repeat until one or other or both, are fast asleep. :)

Had the same problem. Everytime ending up with kernel panic and (status 7) error.
Flashed the .tar with Odin, everything went well and now i`m in testing it.

@ironass
Can I run Siyah 6.0beta5 with Power Saving enabled ?
I read your post regarding Siyah 6.0beta4, where you advise to enable PS mode for Battery profile; just curious if you had time to run the same configuration on the latest release.

In a word... yes!

The only thing that I had to do was to adjust the CPU MAX FREQUENCY in STweaks to 800MHz to match that of CPU power saving in Power Saving if you have selected that.

Yah I had that problem with the original beta version for jellybean but the difference was this time I had it correctly install at 2am then it froze and boot looped on me 20 or so hours later, and wouldn't flash a second time! :-\

I already love this kernel :D Super smooth, good battery after 2 days, and sorted out recent problem with deleting files, especially media files like mp3. When i wanted to delete file let say 50mb it took 10 sec to make this operation. Now with current Siyah it`s less than sec :)

After a complete disaster on Friday, when I flashed Dorimanx kernel, 7.48 and then had to do a restore, see, here... I chose a known, good, nandroid backup of NEAT ROM Full LSJ with the Siyah 6.0beta4 kernel, which I find is a little more battery friendly and snappier for me than the beta5 release.

NEAT ROM Full + Siyah 6.0beta4 moderate usage.

I am going to give it a try, just flashed Siyah 6.05beta5 on NEAT ROM Full LS8. I have been on NEAT ROM Full LS8 with PhilZ 4.35 for about 2 weeks now. Not any particular problem but the battery: the average battery hold time was 1day 9 hours (as reported by GSam battery monitor app). I am not a heavy user, I do not use 3G, just wifi from time to time, no games, nothing really cpu demanding.

But one thing is that I do not have mobile network coverage at work, and this may play a significant effect on the battery hold time. I was considering putting the phone in flight mode whenever I arrive at work, but I always forget... and with flight mode the wifi will not work.

Let's see if anything will change with Siyah 6.05beta5.

Have noticed Wi-Fi issues with beta 5 over weekend. Patchy connections and poor data speeds. Back to beta 4 and all fine.

Anyone else had this?

I was just saying to the Mrs that the wifi seems a bit slow!

Also finding battery life quite poor, I would revert back to beta 4 but cwm isn't letting me flash the extra file for mobile Odin, it keeps saying there is an issue with emmc or something, will try again when I get home and will take proper notes!

I have not noticed anything like this with beta5 (I mean patchy wifi or poor download speed) but I have not checked in detail. Regarding the battery life, it's way better than PhilZ 4.35 I was using until yesterday. Now I am at 37% after 24 hours of use, my average PhilZ battery life was 30 hours.

Decided to try the cwm file for beta 4, and the recent download of it now works the way its supposed to, still doesn't help getting mobile Odin to work, but at least I'm to beta 4!

Also, it didn't come with stweaks installed, which is a first for me!

v6.0 beta 5, so unstable!!

It would be if you are trying to use it on ICS, as per your post, here...

back on ICS, after I send the phone number from Chrome to phone (using chrome to phone extension), I would get the number on my phone where I was able to select the SMS icon and text.

But in JB, Samsung (or Google or whoever), removed the SMS icon!!

I am no longer able to directly text number from a phone number I find on my chrome desktop.

Taken from Siyah post, here...

"This kernel is only for Samsung JB ROM (No ICS support anymore)"

On jb, I mean

So, you are back on JB then!

Did you do a GS2KernelWipe before installing Siyah 6.0beta5?

Are you using a stock profile in STWeaks?

Have you under/over clocked or under/over volted?

Which version of JB are you using it on, stock or custom ROM?

no I didn't do the GS2kernelWipe, I don't think that was mentioned in the root guide. Using everything is stock, no custom rom.

For obvious reasons, you cannot use Hawker's KernelWiper prior to being rooted and so therefore it is shown in post #1 of this thread instead.

The Good

Gokhan Moral, developer of the Siyah kernel, has had a baby boy! :congrats:

(I'm guessing it was Mrs Moral that actually gave birth. I do know some biology)

The Bad

There will be no further kernel developement until some time in April.

The Ugly

Do not expect Gokhan to support the new Samsung Galaxy SIV...

"I still have an s2 and xperia-t to play with and I am no way getting another Samsung any time soon (especially not S4)."

Source, here.

Great news on the baby , I don't have an xda account so can't congratulate him, but still.... Congratulations :-P

Sad to hear about the s4, especially after he jumped to the s3 so quickly :-(

But then as tempted as I am to consider buying a phone on developer support, the reality is I'm going top go for the one with the best specs etc that suit me.... Though I have found that although rooted, I've yet to put a custom ROM or kernel onto my nexus 7, but think that's mainly cos its a shared device, and my Mrs would kill me! Lol
