Sling Box owners rejoice!

Lol you have your "." key on three round burst.:)
How much home upload bandwidth does slingbox take to look good?

LOL... Yea, it's been a habit of mine for years...

Anyway, I am not sure what the minimum upload speed would be to have good quality... I have 768kbps upload service on my DSL plan, and it looks pretty good once the buffer starts to fill...

Mike

Mine works great on WiFi, but has issues making a connection on 3G...and once connected, especially if I am in a moving vehicle, I do get some skips...but I have to believe that part of this is due to varying connection quality...

yeah, i'm hopeful that future updates will give us the ability to perhaps change the buffer length to compensate for this...

G36E or M4A1? Sorry, had a Karkand "infantry only" flashback.

Mobile upload rates over mobile connections start at 150Kbs. My Moto Q would pull down ~250Kbs watching "HD channels" on its 320x240 screen. If I turned of "slingstream", I could set bandwidth as high as 400-450Kbs. FWIW, from someone who's calibrated his Panny plasma in the service menu, I'd say anything over 600Kbs on an EVO would look fine on an DInc...at least for an HD channel.

I tried it out on Saturday on a 30 minute trip in the car and didn't have any skips the whole time. Pretty good picture quality, too, though not perfect.

There is a post about it in this thread, or over on the EVO forum...whoever had it, said it was really nice. Upgraded interface over current DVR or sling app. I'm debating about whether to upgrade my 222 to a 922, or get a 2nd 622/722 and a 2nd sling box. Supposedly after the $200 one-time fee for a 922, the montly rate is the same for a 622 ($15/mo).
You might be better off just buying the 922 off ebay if you're replacing another dual tuner receiver. $295 or $495 for the privilege of leasing it versus ~$500 to own it outright.

what slingbox do you have? if you have the pro hd, do you have the picture quality on auto?

i used it on a 3+ hr trip from eastern PA to atlantic city (and again on the way back) and for the most part it was solid, but it seemed every time we came up on a new tower it would skip and stutter badly for a few minutes (about every 20 miles or so), then go back to being solid again.

It's a Pro HD and it is set to auto.

I'm looking forward to trying it on longer trips. This was around a 35-40 mile trip.

let me know how it does...like i said, i'm hoping this can be fixed by sling at some point. it would be nice if we could see the buffer to know for sure what's going on...

Disappointing,
It works GREAT over wifi, but I havent been able to connect (consistently) to slingbox over 3g yet. Usually it just sits at connecting and if it does connect it just freezes on the first frame and then nothing.

My Dish and VIP922 is getting installed right now. I'll report back later today with my experiences with the Slingplayer.

My video quality has increased dramatically since I ditched the SlingLink Turbo. I had to run a 50 ft. cat5, but it was worth it for the increased performance.

My girlfriend didn't like watching the red sox game during our dinner date last night, but I'm very happy with the results other than that :)

Has anyone upgraded from the slingbox AV to the slingbox solo since the slingplayer for android came out? Did it resolve any video/audio lag?

Is everyone who has the Pro HD getting the entire widescreen on HD channels to take up the entire screen of the phone? I'm unable to get this with this Dish VIP922 and wondering if it's related to the receiver and it possibly not being an HD version like the Pro HD; instead being a Solo version built into the receiver.

I have an original Slingbox and 3g doesn't work for me (WiFi works perfectly). Is Verizon blocking Slingbox over 3g, is there some special setting to enable 3g (proxy, etc.), or do I need a newer Slingbox to watch over 3g?

i have the original slingbox and it works fine with my 3g. i bought the android app and fired it up and the slingplayer started playing right away. i didn't have to change any settings at all. so from my experience, 3g is not blocked.
in any case i did order a slingbox solo due to be delivered today as i prefer to have a supported device as well as a updated device.

am i correct in believing that i can hook up a surveillance camera to my slingbox solo as well as my hi-def cable box except that i just won't have audio capabilities with the surveillance camera? i believe that i just would hook up the camera to another video input like s-video and then in the mobile app i would change to that input? just looking for clarification. thanks. or would i be better to get the hd pro? thanks

I figured out how to do this. My router was not set up for port forwarding. The Slingbox website explains how to do this manually. Once I enabled port forwarding on both protocols, entered the Slingbox's ip address and enabled port 5001, it worked perfectly with 3g for the first time. Incidentally, I had this same problem with Slingbox Mobile for WinMo and never figured out how to get around it.

to get HD channels on Verizon Fios, I am lead to believe that you need a HD top box. question is then...if I get a coax spliter (not to interrupt the TV channel) I won't be getting HD channels right?

You should be able to connect multiple devices if you have the available ports. If your surveillance cams have audio, and you want to push it thru the sling box, don't discount using RCA splitters.

Yes it does work. I have done it with mine. Audio can be rigged to work as stated above.

As an aside, you may be able to get the $30 cost of the app credited back to your Dish account. This is limited to customers with the 922.

Yes, that's what it says when you set it up thru your Dish account online. However, the whole instructions online thru your account and the little bit of information on the receiver where all a little confusing and conflicting. Online, there are instructions for each mobile device OS: iPhone, Android, Blackberry, and Windows. Only in the iPhone section does it mention the credit on your account for the app. So don't technically know if I'll get a credit. The instructions in Android section simply say to download the player thru the Android Market, use the key given then, and enjoy; nothing else. On the receiver, the instructions say go to actual slingplayer download page to get the app. I had a hard time getting it setup and actually deleted the app on the phone and reinstalled, still with no luck getting it to login. I finally find the Sling serial # and password hidden in the device specs page. No instructions every mentioned this. And by the way, the Slingplayer for your computer will not work with the 922; you are required to use your Dish account access.
