So, not much of a difference? Except for small UI changes, and some compatibility fixes? I mean in all seriousness, the differences between Windows Vista, and Windows 7 is that of a service pack.
Just not the best comparison to use, in my opinion.
Lol. OK. You keep believing that. just for giggles, read this while you're at it:
Window Vista's windows version is 6.0 and Windows 7 Version is - Microsoft Answers
Then, get me a copy of the Technet Vista (with or without SP1, your choice) as I still have 9 open CD keys from my (just expired) TechNet and I'll compare it in real time every day tasks (not benchmarks, unless you really prefer them) on my current system - Core i7 965 EE with 12 GB of RAM, dual GTX260s SLId with a GTS250 dedicated to PhysX and compare those results with my current Windows 7 SP1 on this exact machine.
I
guarantee you that Win7 will win 90+% of categories of tests. Version number aside as noted in that link, the kernel version number reported is for compatibility purposes.
Thus far, the only users I know who prefer Vista are the ones who won't buy a new computer / cannot afford to pay / unwilling to pay retail upgrade for a new OS. I have yet to see one person who actually says that Vista is a better performing OS (or even equate it with) Windows 7.
I can give you my bona fides if you'd like as well. I'm not just talking out my arse.
As for the boot loader. Is there no way to flash a new unencrypted one? I mean you can do it on computers? I realize this wouldnt be possible from the phone itself but could you do it from a computer somehow?
The best response I can come up with to this is actually a quotation from another forum:
Droid Bionic wireless tether reverse engineering - Page 3 - xda-developers
Frequent lurker of these and other Droid forums since I bought my Bionic six weeks ago. And of everything I've read, some topics hundreds of pages long... this post finally prompted me to register and reply.
"The differences between Windows Vista, and Windows 7 is that of a service pack"

Huh?

That's like saying the difference between a Ford Escort and a Lexus LS is that of leather seating. In all seriousness.
I assume Johngalt meant that ICS will be what GB should have been from the start, in terms of interface, function, and usability. Which I often say when comparing Vista to 7. In that regard, excellent analogy.
Umm, I didn't think of it in that light, but, no, I'm not saying the GB is
bad like Vista was. TBH, when Vista came out I was highly excited b/c of the revamping of things like the internal firewall, the added layers of security (basically a ripoff of assigning a username with su privileges from *nix, but with some tangible benefits), etc, but it quickly became a resource hog on even 4 GB of RAM, whereas XP was content with 1+. In retrospect, it makes a lot of sense, but with so much changing in the OS, it also got a bad name from developers and users alike, for a variety of (mostly subjective) reasons - but one area where it
truly sucks is in memory management. Vista just simply does not know how to let things go properly. Even SP1 is still pale in comparison to Windows 7 OOB.
GB, OTOH, was a nice revamp to FroYo - a lot of new features added, but along with that came the inevitable memory and hardware requirements increase. I like GB, don't get me wrong - but what I saw in the Samsung Galaxy nexus launch video
blew me away. Seriously. ICS is going to be Android's true first moment of glory. It's simply that good. At least until OEMs and carriers get a hold of it and start restricting options....
Facial unlock is corny. Ics should be solid though. If you want it badly enough, sell your bionic on clist to someone ineligible for an upgrade and pay an extra 200 with that and buy a nexus.
I like my BIONIC, and Motorola seems to like me so, I'll keep my BIONIC. Since it is coming regardless, I'll just wait. I'm stubborn like that lol....
I agree, 7 is lightyears beyond what Vista ever was. However Vista sucked ass... GB wasn't bad. I would actually use XP and 7 for that analogy.
yeah, in a nutshell, that's what I said above too.
And I will.
Considering I'm on Vista, I know I'd appreciate it. lol
OMFG - dude, you so need to ditch Vista and put 7 on there.
If you have a tablet PC (the original kind, with the flip screens and styluses that you wrote with, like handwriting) you'll
LOVE Windows 7's optimizations for Tablet PCs OOB as well. If it can run Vista, it will more than likely run Windows 7 and better, too.
