Software Update Coming to Fascinate, i500.DI01 (Not 2.2)

Thought I was OK cause SU was still in my apps, but I noticed that root explorer wasn't working and then I tried setcpu and both apps couldn't obtain super user access... I tried reloading both programs restarting and nothing that needs SU works, even though the SU app is still installed.:(

No biggie, I'll just do the one click root method again. Guess I'm lucky nothing was messed up bad, like some of these other folks. I should've looked for a dev release, like the one floating around now... whoops!

Yeah I had this issue too. I ended up using rage.bin to get root adb, deleted superuser and the superuser uninstall package, then reinstalled superuser and everything worked fine again...

Im in the same boat. Some stuff worked some didnt. I re-rooted and now SU et al is fine. And yes absolutely I will always go to xda first and foremost. I love it here but the knowledge base there is second to none

I downloaded the update this morning and I have not rooted my phone. I'm also new to the boards so welcome to me.

I haven't used the phone much since the update but a quick use of the broswer here at work (just over 3G and 2 bars at that) it zoomed much faster than it did previously. Not sure if this is just a good 3G connection or due to the update but I did notice that.

Hmm..I guess mine is a strange case.

I did the one-click root about a week ago then did the 1gb lag fix. Everything went fine. I just updated and it rebooted my phone and went pretty quickly, took about 2 mins. After it rebooted, however, it continues to bring up the update screen saying that I have an update available. It basically does this indefinitely as I continue to click "ok" and it reboots and does the process again, except its quicker. I hit "defer" to check to see if I had the update, and confirmed that I DO.

Another interesting things is that I did NOT lose root. I'm just wondering why it continues to ask me over and over again? I'm about to just hit reject.

I suppose I should also note that I haven't TOUCHED any of the programs (did no de-bloating whatsoever), in fact I just downloaded a few apps from the market. I guess I should just reject the prompt for the update since my build and firmware versions are updated?

Also, am I the only one that did not lose root?

It keeps asking you to reapply the package because it has NOT installed properly because you are rooted.
Check you build number. Settings>About Phone> all the way at the bottom is building number.
If yours ends in D012 you havent been updated

You might be confusing your firmware version 2.1 -update1 thinking update1 means you got the update. Wrong. update1 is the way the device shipped. Its build number you are after. See my post above

Nah, he probably has the update installed fine. I had this issue, as did a few others. I just rejected it after 30m of trying to figure it out. Hasn't come back, and i checked updates and it said i'm up to date with software...and my build/kernal numbers match up fine.

Zero_one, welcome aboard. About the root...did you install the signed update from XDA? If not, and you were rooted pre-update, try some root apps like Wireless Tether, Root Explorer, Titanium Backup, etc. and see if they work properly. They shouldn't, but if you did the lag fix that does stick. The update should have overrided your root, if done through OTA.

Ok and yeah its weird the lag fix stuck after the root was washed away. I mean I un lag fixed when I was trying to get the OTA

I'm debating about re-rooting, thinking that 2.2 will come along as soon as I do that and I'll just have to un-root again. :D

The device sure runs great as it is.. just those annoying, totally useless to me, apps in there. "Blockbuster?" lol they just filed for bankruptcy today.

Well if you just dont wanna see them you can hide them using LP. Myself, I just wanted them gone and hence they are. But yeah go ahead and re-root; maybe that will speed up the Froyo release :p

Actually..

My build number says SCH-I500.DI01

Baseband version: S:i500.04 V.DI01

and yes, I did the lag fix which is still present. I checked the quadrant scores and they were still 2200+.

so yeah, it must be updated. Correct?

As far as the original root, I did the "one-click root" which invovled connecting my phone to my pc in usb debugging mode, expanding fascinateroot.zip and running part1.

I tried running wireless tether, which indicated that it was "unable to tether" upon trying. I do have the "Superuser" icon still in my tray though.

Since I did update successfully, I suppose that this means that I lost root? If so, how would I rectify this?

Yes, do that, we want FROYO!!!!

It still amazes me when I think back to how quickly the Eris was exploited and before we knew it 2.2 ROMs were being posted at the XDA forums and elsewhere.. I ran Nonsensikal Froyo 5.6 for weeks.

I'm thinking that we'll be seeing Froyo ROMs for the Galaxy series including Fascinate pretty soon.

I didn't unroot, maybe I should have to be safe but oh well. Rerooting literally took 2-3 minutes. I was debating rerooting or just waiting, but just in case I want to tether or do something I can't normally...I'll know its there!

Yeah, you are updated and lost root. The apps won't disappear from your phone, they just won't work unless you are rooted. Just redo the same process you did initially to root. In this case, redo the one-click root.

Yup you're good to go there with the update

Try it out if you access SU you might be fine. Try running an app which needs SU priviledges and see
