Root Software update ZV8 to ZV9

I just upgraded to ZV9, going to play with it a little longer. If I don't get anywhere, I believe I will take your advice. I've had expert help here, and I've been in touch with google for more than a week, and tried everything they suggested, and nothing seems to work.

I'll make sure I am back to stock ZV9, then call and complain. Sounds good to me. LOLOL

Well, I'm rooted on ZV9 and I am back to getting the ERROR RETRIEVING INFORMATION FROM SERVER. [RPC:S-5:AEC-0] message when I go into Play Store. Also I got a random "CAR HOME" message as well ( I saw someone had problems with that on ZV9 somewhere in this forum). SO, I think I am going to take BONES advice and complain LOUDLY to Verizon about my phone. Wish me luck.

Got my replacement. And in need of another. Beware of the edges discoloring

This is my 5th. By now shouldn't they be giving me a different device?

LOLOL Good Morning Bones!! Your 5th?????
OMG I hope I don't have to go through that. I think I am back on ZV9 now, and I will leave it that way until I get a new phone. Wish me luck. And yes, I will look out for defects, of course (I would hope that THEY do this before shipping to customers) Yeah, right!

#1. Would get data but no call or text signal. #2 battery lasted 3 hours. #3 screen issues. #4 was good but wouldn't take the v7 update(got it figured out after #5 came in) #5 has been okay and now annoys me with car home and bad battery life after v9 update. #6 came in with screen issues.

If I get another spectrum it will be my 7th since starting this 2yr contract. I'm not due for a normal upgrade until march or april

Apparently long time customers can keep unlimited data. I was told I could make 24 or 12 monthly payments on full price device without using a upgrade

So you can get a phone from them at full price and they will put the payments on your bill for 12 or 24 months?

Yeah. They said it was in the store only. And we have been customers since 97(Alltel until they were taken over in 09) a g2 would be around $25 a month for 24months

Be careful that sounds like the Edge plan, you loose unlimited and are given 6gb plan.

Honestly, if you're going that route, just go buy through Motorola. They are offering 0% financing for 18 months on purchases over $549. I'm very tempted to pull the switch on purchasing a Moto X dev edition that way.

My "new" spectrum is coming in the mail today. After reading the last few posts, perhaps I can talk the wife into a little more in monthly payments (LOL). Who knows? Let's see what my replacement looks like first.

My problem is that this is my first phone ever, and I am very comfortable with what is going on here. Switching now may sidetrack any learning experience I've received so far. I really want to try putting together a rom on my own, and get it to boot successfully.

I just wish I knew what happened to my old phone to make it act up the way it did. When I was talking to VZW, they couldn't see my phone in their system at all. Like it didn't exist. Weird. Right now it isn't rooted (have to send it back to VZW), and has the latest update to V9.

I'm afraid I don't know what you are referring to. I guess if I don't know, I probably didn't, right? LOL Please explain.

Also, I can get into the play store on the "new" phone. Downloaded a solitaire game just to make sure it works.

IMEID is what identifies your old phone to Verizon
Thanks for answering so fast!!

I thought so, isn't the number on the tag inside the phone?
Where is this file located? And how would I alter/erase/destroy it? What could I have done to make a mess of it?

settings -> about phone -> status

It's possible for a bad flash to wipe your IMEI, but it's a very rare occurrence unless you are using the LGNPST tool, which in and of itself is a dangerous tool to use if you don't know what you're doing.

Yea, I remember using the repair tool many times.
It also works for the LG Fathom.
I can't remember where it is found tho...

Well, honesty is the best policy...... OK I confess...

I have used the LGNPST tool. But everything seemed to go well in every instance, but, what do I know? The problem is that I do not remember, nor did I notice exactly at what point the problems began. I didn't necessarily test play store after flashing anything, so I wouldn't have noticed when it all started.

Since I have your ears/eyes, there is something I would like to ask you. All of your advice to date has been spot on.

Update: I charged the battery up to full, then did a hard reset, and that seems to have curtailed the messages and reboots because of "high temperature". NOW we'll see how long it lasts.

I spoke to VZW last night, because one of my complaints was poor battery life. They were supposed to send me a new battery, but they DID NOT. They talked me into waiting a while to see if I still experience poor battery life with the new phone. So far, I am NOT having a warm fuzzy experience.

Don't they have enough cash to afford one battery? What is it with VZW? I am beginning to see just how UN customer friendly they really are.

NO NO NO, it is doing it again. (high temperature reboot) Time to call VZW. This sucks.

Per Neph's feedback, you could skip the mke2fs commands (similar to DOS/Windows "format") and just run the e2fsck (similar to chkdsk) commands to check/fix your /system, /data, and /cache partitions. You do have to have CWM installed and have a working copy of ADB on your machine. If you used the PWNAGE tool to unlock your bootloader and install CWM, you can just use the included adb.exe for the commands above.

You must have CWM Recovery 6 installed.

ADB reboot recovery
adb shell
cd sbin

mke2fs -t ext4 -b 4096 /dev/block/mmcblk0p26
e2fsck -fy /dev/block/mmcblk0p26
"repeat e2fsck until it comes back clean"

mke2fs -t ext4 -b 4096 /dev/block/mmcblk0p27
e2fsck -fy /dev/block/mmcblk0p27
"repeat e2fsck until it comes back clean"

mke2fs -t ext4 -b 4096 /dev/block/mmcblk0p28
e2fsck -fy /dev/block/mmcblk0p28
"repeat e2fsck until it comes back clean"

You will be back to a pristine condition and with no OS. Install a rom and have fun. If I ever get the mount as mass storage fixed, I will be pushing out another version of TWRP and will replace mke2fs and e2fsck from CWM into TWRP just to make sure that isn't part of the issue.

HOLY MOLY!!!

I've been having a LOT of problems with my phone lately so I thought I'd give this a try. I ran the "e2fsck"-only commands. For about five minutes now, it's still fixing errors on the mmcblk0p28 partition!

Hey, you know, I finally paid attention to this post. But there is no "status" in the "about phone" section. But under "phone identity" the IMEI section says "0".

That looks like a problem to me, if that is what has been wrong all along, OMG!!!!!!!!!

OK here's the million dollar question. How can I update that location on my phone with my IMEI number? Any takers on that one? I am going to try to go in through ADB and see if I can find the location at least.

I'll let neph field that one, since he tends to know more about it.

Flashing LG signed Firmware - LG Spectrum - RootzWiki

Here's a post he's made before about it. It sounds kinda like you can just use that tool, type in your imei, and it will redo everything. But, I strongly suggest waiting for guidance.
I spoke with Klembo in PM about how to fix his situation. Still waiting to hear back from him, but if it works, he should be in good shape.

Hello All! I am still amazed at how people I will never meet, much less know will just offer their time and assistance to help someone else when they need it. But that our world would work this way, but I digress..........

ANYWAY, I tried NEPH's advice, but MY PC is currently arguing with me. I will win the argument, eventually. I received my replacement phone yesterday, and it seems to be working fine, for the moment.

I am still trying to get my PC working, so I can follow NEPH's instructions for fixing an IMEI number that is "zeroed out". (I feel that was the problem. When I looked in the settings on the old phone, my IMEI number was "0". Obviously NOT normal.

As to what I did to cause the situation, I wish I knew so I could share it here. But I am not going to do too much customization to the current SPECTRUM in my possession until I have things set up on my PC correctly, as per NEPH's instructions.

anyone else have hotspot issues after upgrading to v9?

never had any issues on v8. with v9: one machine connected to hotspot works fine, after second client attaches to the hotspot, first machine can't send or receive data anywhere from 30 seconds to 5 mins. machine 1 stays "connected" to the hotspot, just no data transfer occuring. This is while on 4GLTE (and the max # of connections is set to 10).

Only thing I have noticed is a lag/delay in 4G response and a few lockups in the Opera browser from time to time (but that seems to be related to the 4G lag/delay), which were not present on ZV8.
It looks as if though VZW has brought more 4G towers near me on line, seems ping times vary but still doesn't respond well.
