Root Some help with Gparted would be appreciated..

My rooting faq and guide explain erase size.

My fastboot faq,explains the rest.

As always, in my signature

Sorry for not looking for myself in my last couple of posts.

As previously stated, I feel overhwelmed and if I had a guide in front of me, I'd feel a heck of a lot more comfortable.

Following your guide & Rastaman's post, I have determined I have I have erase size 2000.. However I cannot find any reference to pvt? Terminal emulator displays mtd0, 1, 2, 3, 4 & 5. Each have an erase size of 2000.

Is mtd inplace of pvt?

I was going to suggest cwm 2.5.0.7. I was s-off and used android flasher, it was so easy to use, but that's your call.

Pvt is on your hboot screen but its irrelevant if erase is 20000. Only some pvt4 have erase 40000. Basically if pvt 1, 2 or 3 means no need to check erase.

But since you're 20,000, you can use cwm 2.5.0.7

It is overwhelming but its for the reason that you would feel better with a guide that I will NOT provide a guide. The fastboot faq tells you everything and you need to UNDERSTAND it. A guide will send you blindly following steps you don't understand which goes against all my rooting principles.

Read the faq. Read it again. Understand, do. Not before. No guides

I'm sorry to be a pain SUroot, but I've followed your FAQ for fastbooting 2.5.0.7 using Android Flasher, and it claims it is complete and shows "Rebooting.." and my phone reboots and just stays on the HTC logo white screen as it boots.
Nothing else. :-(

I took out the battery as my phone was sat on that screen for 10 minutes. It wasn't going to do anything else.

I looked in recovery I am still using 4.0.1.4.. One thing I'm not sure if it's an issue, the 2.5.0.7 is a .zip and not sure if I should be using it as you claim it needs to be an image file. The file available in Rastamans sig is locked and I can't access it.

This is all very.. Interesting.

can you open the zip on the pc? with 7zip or something. The recovery should be an image file, if your trying to use the android flasher.

Not that I'm aware of..

Using WinRAR I extract and get the following:

In Folder "sbin" (only folder)

"adbd" File type = File (Right click, properties displays "File")
killrecovery.sh = SH File
nandroid-md5.sh = SH File
postrecoveryboot.sh = SH File
recovery = File

You have to unzip it. You can only.flash images via fastboot. Ensure its not the update zip for Rom manager.

Edit, its.not even zipped. You're using the Rom manager one. Please try to be more observant

Apologies but I was blissfully unaware that there was a Rom manager version. As I stated previously I tried to get Rastaman's copy from his sig, but the site is locked and requires a username/password. I got the copy from xda and assumed it would be the correct one.

I guess one cannot make assumptions when dealing with rooting. I shall endeavour to be more vigilant.

Get it from the toolbox thread. Yes it is password protected. The password is in the thread, towards the end, after post 83.

Our wish is this, if you don't understand, ask. If you have to wait for an answer, wait.

Stick with one lot of advice before going to another. Don't mix and match. This is how problems are caused.

in the link in my sig if you look on the last page there is a username and password
this is done to stop leaching so androidforums can benefit from it without damaging my bandwidth

look at the last few posts on that link

All,

I've managed to get the CWM 2.5.07 on my phone. I will attempt to flash the Teppic Gingerbread ROM next week.
It's been a fiddly weekend. I've certainly learnt a thing or two. Including all the suggestions from SURoot, Rastaman & Shauny. Thank you for your endless knowledge and patience. Seriously. Thanks a lot! :)

Everday is a school day. Breaking it down into bite sized chunks early on is definitely.advantageous.

Try to relax for the rest of your Sunday;)

OK, SD Card partitioned with ext3, Recovery image downgraded, Teppic ROM and added goodies downloaded ready to be flashed.

Wish me luck.

In fact I learnt my lesson last weekend. Took me best part of a day when it went a bit Pete Tong last weekend.
I'll save it for Saturday. Everyone can breathe a sigh of relief.

haha. Working in IT, I can tell you that whatever time you plan for a change, you must plan at least double to incorporate your roll-back strategy ;)

Hi all,

Just a quick courtesy post to let you all know Teppic74's Gingerbread ROM appears to be running very smooth with Apps2SD+ function as it should. A whopping 100mb+ internal mem free and I'm still adding my apps I had to substitute for others! So, Rastaman, Shauny & SUroot, I thank you again for guiding me through here and informing me of my inferior recovery image. I'm still pawing through guides, FAQ's and threads on this forum to pick up all the tid-bits on rooting, as I'm sure you all appreciate it's opened many doors.

Also I fear I am a convert! I'm already missing CM7 and I've grown almost tired of Sense! It was a nice mod and made a pleasant change. I'll give this ROM another week or so to see if I grow to like it more as Sense is still fail safe and lovely to use.

(Good job I did a full backup of CM7!)

Thanks again guys!
