Root Some questions and concerns about rooting...

I've been considering rooting my EVO for a while now, but I'm scared I'll mess someting up... I have the following questions/ concerns:

Is it easy to unroot the phone in case it needs to be taken to Sprint?

In the event that the phone is "bricked," can this be undone?

If so, how?

Is there a safety difference or a most efficient way to root? I've heard that there are different methods but I'm not really too sure.

Finally: should I avoid it completely if I don't have much experience.

I'm sorry if this is a repost of something! I looked for similar topics but didn't find the answers to these questions. Thanks for your help!
 
I was smart phone ilaterate 2 months ago and now I belive I am not an expert but above average and it's do to this forum.... rooting for dummies is very very simple process the rooting part is the easiest part.. when I installed the hboot drivers that was a little more involed but still simple.

I have never heard of trully bricked they seem to all ways get fixed here

and yes getting back to stock is very simple after you have rooted then you will have the knowlage and the rooting for dummies will provide the files... fallow the guide and post back if you have a question !!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
just to let ya know there is a booty load of avid droid heads that stay on this fourm night and day so you always have support.....
 
1. unrooting is as ease as apple pie. it really is two steps and you are done. i had to unroot due to a hardware malfunction. i unrooted it in less then 5 min took it in and they gave me a refurbished evo. i then rooted my current phone in like 5 min as well.

2. from what i have seen it is pretty hard to really brick your phone. you pretty much have to try and root with your eyes closed in order for you to brick it. in most cases there is always a way out. just remember that this forum is great and that they are plenty of people here that are willing to help. all you need to do is ask.

3. the best way to root that i have found is using the http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/194918-rooting-dummies.html. my suggestion is not rush into it. take your time and read it. there is a ton of info there. again any questions on it please do not hesitate to ask.

4. this forum and the dummies guide has made me feel very comfortable in rooting. rooting your phone is up to you. but all i can say is that when you root your phone, it will open a new world for you. just beware that it is very addicting.:D

so i'd say root and join the flashaholics that are on this forum.:D
 
Alright thanks for your help! I'm gonna do it tomorrow, I factory reset and uninstalled HTC Sync already but ran out of time... is it normal that I'm nervous about the whole thing? I know it says it's a slim chance, but something about the words "permanently lose your 4G" makes me a bit apprehensive...

Chances are you will not lose them when rooting. I believe you have more of a chance of losing them if you flash a radio update after rooting. Just remember that the first thing to do after rooting is to make a nandroid backup so as to make sure you save your Wimax(4g) keys. Read as much as you can to get you familiar with everything and I would suggest doing all of your flashing and backups through recovery manually. If you have issues or questions, we are here to help.
 
I was quite nervous about it and read about it for months before actually rooting. But it's worth it. It's like God Mode, getting the free wifi hotspot, tethering, all the roms and customizations. It's a very strange thing to describe, but it's worth it.
 
Ahh... okay, I started and it wasn't happening for me the way it seemed like it should.. I think I want to hold off on this for a while but I am at the HBOOT screen and am not sure how to get out of here, suggestions?

+1 on being cautious. it is good to things slow. it must have been a hundred times reading the rooting for dummies guide before i felt comfortable enough to root. just remember, this forum is here for you if you ever have any questions.
 
Read and re-read the "ROOTing for Dummies" thread in this section. I used it to root my phone 3 weeks ago and it was fairly striaght foward, that is, I didn't mess anything up and was rooted on my first try. I also HIGHLY suggest you go on YouTube as a cross-reference so you can visually see what is happening in comparison to what you may be reading. I used YouTube not so much to teach me how to root the phone - although you can do that but, I used it to see the different techniques of rooting, backing up and Roms. By the time I was ready to root, I knew all the steps and how the end result should be.

Bricking your phone is somewhat hard for the Evo, short of you dropping it from a two story window, I don't think you'll brick it any time soon. As for "unrooting" or reversing a root, yes, you can revert your Evo back to stock if you want to very easily (See "ROOTing for Dummies"). I would suggest that you do some homework, poke around the internets and this forum before you root and, above all, make sure you're comfortable with rooting the phone.
 
I just rooted my Evo for the first time this weekend after having it for nearly a year. I had a rooted Hero before that but that thing was still the biggest piece of garbage I had ever owned so I sold it and got an Evo. Rooting it was extremely easy. I used Unrevoked 3 and in moments I was rooted. I'm running CM7 right now and love it. Phone seems more responsive than it was right before I rooted it. Not to mention the control you gain.
