okay heres the deal...i attempted to root my evo today and as far as i knew it worked out great. when starting the phone a second time in the bootloader it started some weird update. It then told me that the main version was older and that the update failed. if i try to start the phone regularly it wont go passed the "htc evo 4g" screen...i attempted to root it using rEVOked 3 (the painless or something like that) ive tried looking up ways to fix this for the passed 3 hours now and as far as i can tell im running a version of 1.32 of something and i actually need 1.47... my biggest issue is...i have no clue how to do that....dont know where to get the file....dont know how to get it in the phone if i cant mount it as a disc drive...i do have a my touch slide at my disposal to use as a card reader...its not even my computer so its not like something i can do tomorrow my buddys gonna be leaving at some point!.....im in serious need of help someone please help me and walk me through this

im not sure what the hboot is....i have used that rooting procedure its the exact one i used in order to attempt rooting in the first place....but i have a newer evo....the one that comes with the blockbuster app OH! hboot 2.10.0001 i beleive thats it...

ok so you need to use unrevoked 3.32 found in the dummies guide. you have a newer hboot. also do you have HTC sync on your computer? if you do, uninstall it. if you do not, try to install it then uninstall it.

ive also tried putting the pc36img.zip onto the root of the sd card (i believe...i put it in no folder...toward the top it said to put it straight to the G drive or whatever i put it there) that didnt work and i also "over-read" that if you rename a file (PC36IMG.zip to PC36IMG.zip for example) windows sometimes will read it as PC36IMG.zip.zip so i tried taking the initial ".zip" off and again....nothing

i did this before.....am i just gonna try rerooting it as i did before i used the unrevoked 3 painless root and reflash

what pc36img are you using? what are you trying to accomplish with that?

it sounds like this may be your actual issue. We need to know exactly what it is you are trying to accomplish with what pc36img file. That has nothing to do with unrevoked.

start with letting us know everything you see on the white hboot.bootloader screen, and what this pc36img zip is

well what i initially tried to accomplish was to root my phone to tether wifi for xbox live netflix viewing pleasure....at this point all im trying to accomplish is getting my phone to actually turn on...like i said before it wont go passed the "htc evo 4g" screen heres what it says and how it says on my bootloader

it then has a list from 1-10 asking if id like to start update...everytime i do something fails and in turn causes the entire update to fail saying the "main version is older"....i dont need to have it rooted anymore...i mean i will get it rooted but have someone who knows a bit more than i do about what to do.....

and mr ed....sorry i was in a panic

If you are using the pc36img to unroot, you need to use the one from the rroting for dummies thread for hboot 2.10 or you will get the main version older error.

The reason it is saying that is because watever pc36img.zip file you have is doing something to cause it to not boot correctly. So we need to know what this file is before we can move on.

at this point you are at least partially rooted. you may or may not have a recovery.

you need to one...unroot via what wrapkgb posted but I do believe he also needs to follow all of the unroot steps listed (flash s-on tool right?)

or you need to dload the pc36img for a recovery, and then flash a rooted stock rom or custom Rom via recovery.

it's really up to you but yes...you need to make sure the file you are using matches your hboot and radio version or you will get that error

I think this issue has been a little over-complicated.

1) Why did you put a pc36img.zip on your card to begin with? It doesn't sound like it was to try an unroot? What specific instructions were you following that told you to do so?
2) You have S-OFF, so we need to know if you have a recovery image. While in hboot, select the option for recovery to see what it does.
3) If you're taken to clockwork recovery, you're good. If not, you need to flash a custom recovery, which I can help you with, if need be.

Check that stuff first, then you'll just need to flash a ROM so you can boot up. It's hard to say what went wrong without know specifically what you did. You do not need to unroot, though. What you have right now is recoverable.
