Root SOS Roms

-Mike-

Android Enthusiast
What do you guys think of the SOS ROMs? From first glance, I like the look. I was going to try them out this weekend. I'm just a little unsure of the Aroma installer and all the other options you seem to have when you're flashing it.

Thoughts, ideas, help?

Don't know about the SOS roms but Decks has the aroma installer and is nice to use...get to chose what is installed on the rom flash.:)

I've tried them both and Decks is the better choice unless you're looking for a sense rom.

I really like Decks, but there are some exchange mail enhancements i prefer on a ICS rom that are built in or I'd still be using it

Wasn't ever really a fan of sos myself. If you want sense Tommy's classic and mikg are top dogs in my book.

I am out of the loop for the OG though, so if something groundbreaking has been released n the last month let me know ;)

sos is a very nice rom. i liked it when it first came out. it will come down to if you want a sense rom or an aosp rom.

Sho do wish I could join ya soon, but hey, ya never know...I could upgrade if I wanted (its a work phone) and my boss would let me, but not...quite...ready to let go of my OG yet! Can you still get s-off with the LTE? I probably shouldn't ask this here, as I am kinda way off topic..:D Maybe I'll p.m. ya'll :)

SOS are good ROMs. As stated before, they are sense ROMs but they were pretty smooth and fast when I flashed them. I then switched to Digital Karma and then to Decks Reloaded and the rest is history......:D

Ok, dummie here wants to know what Sense has that AOSP doesn't. I really like the appearence and the options with SOS. I don't understand the difference in all this shizzle. I just want some that I set and forget. Feel me, yo?

check out this thread:

the second post goes into the differences in sense and aosp. plus in the first post it has the staff picks which are roms that are no brainers as far as really good roms to try out.

So it seems as though the AOSP ROMs needs a little work on the back end by the end user. I personally don't feel confident enough in my ROM skillz to fool with all that. Maybe in time this grasshopper will have the skillz. I see that the SOS ROMs need a little back end glide. I think I can handle that.

When you say AOSP needs a little work by the end user, are you referring to the gapps package you need to install? Some AOSP roms have gapps included such as Decks Reloaded....not much work for the user. Just flash it and set it up as you wish just like a Sense rom. I ran MikG (sense) and now Decks (AOSP) and both didn't take much to set up....as I learned more about MikG and Decks, I tweaked both out to my liking with themes, kernels etc and one did not take more work than the other.
Try both the SOS and Decks, then only you can decide what you like.:D

back in the day, yes aosp roms needed a lot of tweaking to get it setup. but these new roms out like deck's there is very little that you will need to do. the only thing is that you will have to choose a launcher that you like. i like nova, but i used to like go launcher.

however, i do understand you. when i first rooted my phone, i was a sense guy. i tried a few aosp roms out there, but they all required more work then i was willing to put it. but these new aosp roms are getting better and better..........so its up to you.

just remember you have nandroid backups. all you need to do is make one and then flash a rom and if you do not like it you can nandroid restore back to your previous rom. i would at least try deck's reloaded so that you get an idea on what aosp is all about.

SOS has numerous choices in Aroma, hence the 360mb download. I don't like sense 1.0 so I've always flashed SOS M(senseless). No issues with this rom whatsoever.

Buy the time you upgrade, something better will be out so.....:) anyways, if I had my choice, I wouldn't pick the evo but that's just me

Flashing SOS M as I type this. I hope I made the right choices in the initial set up before installation. I'll see how it goes tonite and fool with it tomorrow while watching football. I also downloaded Resurected. I might try that at some point too.
