speculation, rumors, leaks about EVO release

Someone (bendispo) on sprint community posted the following. Thought I'd share it here:

Interesting qik account of Sprint Senior Marketing Manager:
Trevor Van Norman (trevorvannorman) on Qik | 36 videos recorded with mobile phones

Looks like there are tons of videos he's been streaming to qik via his EVO. ;-)

Including one interesting Sprint meeting... where it seems to suggest that the phone will be released in 2 months... (It talks about keeping buzz going for 2 months, when they had to keep it up for 6 months with the Pre)

United States | By Trevor Van Norman (trevorvannorman)

I honestly wonder if sprint is purposely leaking information to the public as a way to stir up attention among the techies. Forum people love leaked info, and the more buzz the better.

So let me get this straight...Sprint is giving you a massive rebate a year earlier than any other carrier and you're complaining that they won't give you two massive rebates? You realize those rebates are worth like $300-400 and are based on the idea that they will recoup it over the course of your contract? When they let you jump a year on your main line it is like giving you a lot of money for nothing, not to mention the fact that the plans are way cheaper than the competition.

Premier status starts after you start a qualifying plan (anyone feel free to correct me on that one). I was a customer for years but didn't qualify until I added my girlfriend and bought two Pres on a family plan.

It's hardly screwing you over when a company gives you free shit just because you still want more. Compare to the competition and vote with your wallet if you find a better deal.

Amen, brother.

Also, about Premier status. Once you subscribe to a qualifying plan (MRC of $69.99 or higher) and pay your bill on time for three consecutive months, you receive Premier status, entitling you to upgrades every 12 months on the main line of the account.

Also about this meeting today...I haven't heard anything and I'm certainly not staying late after close tonight, so maybe it's just a Sprint Corporate store kinda thing.

Also, I have heard about a new change to Sprint policy that is going into effect tomorrow. It is not directly related to 4G, the EVO, Nexus One, or any hardware, but will certainly help Sprint build up its customer base in preparation for these hardware launches.

No need to be shy about it.

BTW, after a few days of lurking I decided to join. Definitely trading in my Instinct for an Evo and so excited to do so. Never had an android phone so trying to get caught up on everything it offers :D

Wow, I didn't realize it was public knowledge. Anyway, yeah, this is going to help bring in a wider customer base and I think it will bring in people who had Sprint years ago and were unsatisfied. The greater population just doesn't realize that Sprint can compete with the big boys now.

yea i know haha. im going to be so clueless for the first few days. i can catch on quick though. when the evo comes out i say someone should make a thread about good apps to get. also a thread about how everyone is setting up their homescreens and everything.

If it is only about a money back guarantee why would htc be involved with it and why would you need a webinar? If that was the case don't you think a manager would be able to talk about the moneyback guarantee that in a powerpoint presentation? Or would that be to much to ask from a store manager?

I wasn't implying that was the purpose of the meeting, I was saying that I, at my third-party store, have no such meeting, and coincidentally, I know that Sprint is announcing this money back change beginning tomorrow...nothing more.

No, I wasn't implying anything by that comment. If anything that type of thing would have no effect on us current customers, but for us EVO fans that type of announcement would be a little frustrating. after seeing a supposed document that HTC would be doing something with the meeting.

I apoligize if I offended you in any way, any information that we get here is abundantly appreciated.:D

Yeah thanks SprintTerp for any information. Much appreciated. As for how this meeting relates to the EVO, it is definitely a good way to attract people from other carriers. If I were considering switching, a free satisfaction guaranteed trial is definitely a good way to pull me in. As for us existing customers however, that kind of sucks that we still have to deal with restocking fees etc if we didn't like a certain phone. I wish they would apply something similar for us existing customers. 2 more months!! 2 more months!!! CANT WAIT!!!!!!!

The fact that Best Buy is doing any kind of presale, or has a notion of it....tells me that Sprint might be going real BIG on marketing the EVO.

At least in my area, I have never heard of a store doing any sort of presale/reservation at least not for a phone.

I purchased my Hero from Best Buy via a pre-sale. Pre-ordered, and paid a $50.00 deposit (gift card issued) and picked the phone up on release day without waiting in line. For the Hero you had to be a Reward Zone member (Best Buy frequent buyer program).

I don't really think the Froyo news is all that surprising. I'm sure that the EVO, like even most Android devices already available, will one day run the newest iteration of Android.

However, I don't think the article from Neowin, nor the code from the developers' guide, suggests that the EVO will ship with Froyo. It seems to suggest the exact opposite. Since Wimax functionality is lacking native Android support, developers must write additional code. If the EVO were shipping with an Android version that included such support, this section in the developers guide--and the code it recommends--would be moot.

Hey Bendispo - I think you're the same person from Sprint community forums? If so, I quoted one of your entries from there yesterday (the one with the QIK recordings). If this is you then welcome to Android forums!
