Sprint 2.1 getting very close

Well Ive read the BB post but nowhere does it say that it is 2.1 upgrade. I really doubt that it will actually be 2.1.

That post from yesterday was an update to the post last Friday that did in fact reference 2.1. If you look at the post from yesterday, you can plainly see that it says "ROM update" The post from last Friday also references "Eclair" which is widely known to be the 2.1 Android OS.

If you are going to be a hater, at least be an informed hater.

lol.... can i get an "A" for effort atleast... i had day off and figured hey ill swing by a bestbuy and see if they willl update me and guy opened up program and said not till friday..

i figured more pix of the same thing just means more conformation that it is coming now you cant say that the original pix were photoshoped

sweet A+.... im tryin to ask a friend that works at sprint store doin repairs and updates to see if he knows anything and to also see if he can update my phone to 2.1 tomorrow

Best Buy seems to have a handle on this maybe. So I decided to do some checking with my local Sprint Store to see if their info matched up. The response I got was that it will "supposedly" be released on Friday May 7th but that they had gotten no official word on that. He suggested that I call back on Friday to confirm if it had been released or not.

It seemed to me that maybe the reason that they had no official word is that it's not something that will be done in the Sprint Store. He told me that if it was released that they would direct me to a website for the download and that I'd have to install it myself. I figured as much anyway from what I had heard. But that begs the question, is Best Buy going to charge for doing the upgrade? I have no clue on that but as a Best Buy loather I wouldn't put it past them.

I checked with my best buy and what they told me was if you paid for the black tie protection plan or are within your 30 days they will put the update on for you at no charge. Anyone else would get treated with the Geek Squad charges.

If I thought there were enough people to make it worth while, I'd camp out in front of my Best Buy with my laptop giving free upgrades. I really don't like that company.

Was at the Sprint Store today to get my Hero replaced (again -- grrrr), and tried to pick the dude's brain about the update. He said he didn't know the date and didn't expect that they'd receive any advance notice -- most likely, they'd come into work and would be notified at that time that it was available. He did indicate, however, that they'd just received training on the 2.1 update. Seems consistent with a release on or before Friday...

Yea I saw that, he said he could confirm that it will not be this friday.

I guess only time will tell, but I doubt it will be coming out froday, I mean if best buy has had it for a few days then whats the point of making people wait til friday?

Not that it really holds anything but I was on the phone with a Sprint rep and they told me 2 weeks to a month. But what do they know, right.

I just left best buy a little bit ago. the two girls working there looked bored cause they were joking around with each other so I went over to talk with them. I figured asking about the 2.1 update for the hero would be a good ice breaker. the girls looked like I was crazy and one of them told me Sprint's version of the Hero will never get upgraded to 2.1 and that HTC and Sprint never said they would. she said the funny looking hero will get one someday but not Sprint's hero. it amazes me they still have no idea. I told them I saw a screenshot of their best buy's intraweb explaining the update procedure but she looked at the computer and typed some stuff in and said there was nothing there.

I don't know about everyone else, but I am happy with my Hero with 1.5. Well, I guess I DO know about others, as there seems to be alot of folks that just can't wait....that must mean thay are not happy with 1.5.

Would I like an update? Sure! But some updates in the past on other items have been less than desirable. (ex Win XP -> Vista!)

Yes, I am anxious for 2.1, and plan on waiting a day or so after it is released to see the feedback from the community before I update. But I am getting real tired of the rumors, and, against my better judgement, I find myself getting caught up in it. I spoke to a rep. at a Corporate Sprint store yesterday... I know, to you all it is just a rumor. (LOL) I was told that we would get a notification on our phones when the update is available. I am waiting for that, and will not take any other rumors to mean anything.
